plus, i love the dog alien. it was totally my class in AvP2 and i still have one sat by my PC as a result. me and a guy named RedRiot used to totally blow through crunchy humans tag teaming as dog aliens. if we were the first two people to get killed in AvP2 survivor (which is basically what infestation in the new one is) the round would be over in very short order.

i am very much looking forwards to resuming the feeding.

That's exactly the problem. It 'went back to the core of the idea' as you say, but didn't introduce anything new or unique. There are no unknowns here. There is no suspense. At this point we know everything about the alien, it's behavioral patterns and abilities. Top it off with a completely unsympathetic cast and you get one helluva weak horror film.

No doubt this is a matter of opinion, but "Alien 3 Ruined the Franchise" has to be the majority opinion. Just has to be.

probably still fun, but i don't like being fooled by developers

Yeah I remember reading that the ps3 version is a mess compared to the 360 version.
On a console lead game they almost NEVER show PC footage. It's quite annoying.

Alien 3 is one of those films where looking back from a decade's perspective, it wasn't that bad and was actually a good film (better than Resurrection for sure). BTW, the soundtrack is great.
 
man, that's too bad. the ps3 version looks like it is inferior to the 360 version. i really wish developers could make games the same. anyway, was it just me, or was there some severe tearing in those videos. that and the engine looks totally different than the one used in the first 10 minute video of the marines. i'm wondering if the multiplayer uses a different engine. wouldn't be the first time that's happened. that or the ps3 is a lot worse than the 360 version. of course it could also be the fact that the video quality seems pretty crappy. that's too bad. my buddy is a huge fan and he only has a ps3. but i think his computer might be able to push it.

When I look back on Alien 3 all I can see is that the studio didn't want to invest a large budget into a new Alien movie so they forced in a script that was more "personal" (cheap) with a claustrophobic environment.

I have read all of the turned down scripts for Alien 3 and some were very ambitious. David Twohy actually wrote a prison in his version of the script as well, and while the studio kept the idea, they dispensed with a lot of his grandiose ideas. The funny thing is, that prison actually ended up in his later film Chronicles of Riddick, almost word for word made into reality.

Yeah, I just watched it again. Still an awesome movie. The Alien VS Predator movie was on a couple of days ago as well.

Synchronicity? Or maybe someone at that network can't wait for the game either. :P
 
I'm excited about this game and have it pre-ordered for 360.

Played AVP1 and 2 on the PC a lot back in the day.

Fuck the AVP movies.

As excited as I am a part of me is worried this will ultimately disappoint.
- Alien Harvesting in SP [ok, it looks cool, but it serves no function?] I imagined a fantastic Alien SP mission where you must drag hosts back to the fledgling hive to build it up.
- In MP, weapons are map pickups and the pred must recharge his weapons at set stations. This encourages camping.
- Will the game use Matchmaking or Lobby's? If it's lobbies, does the host control when matches start or are they automated like Killzone 2?
 
The predator gameplay looked fucking perfect. I did not know there was a 'distract' mechanic in SP, but it looks sweet. Also, the jumping mechanic seems great.
 
fuck, fuck, fuck!!!!! microsoft sent me a refurbished console last month (2009) to replace my elite that was getting open tray errors. after the fourth time they just replaced it. well now the replacement they sent me is getting the fucking open tray error. and the warranty expires feb 11. that means when this game launches my replacement will probably be in microsofts hands getting repaired. FUCKING piece of shit!

oh, i have a ps3 (60gb fatty with bc). but i want this on 360. i already have my hunter edition paid off. i think the 360 version will outperform the ps3 version and my computer would smoketest if i tried to play avp on it.

Nothing we haven't seen a dozen times already but there is still some nice footage in there.

YES. That gif is awesome. But ehh I hope the demo is SP, uses at least the Predator gameplay as well. It's probably going to be a marine SP demo though.. doubt they'll release a MP demo as it didn't look that great in a vid a while back. But then again that was the Ps3 version and I'm buying this for the SP anyway.

But hopefully the MP is great as well.. fuck this game is going to be awesome. Buying this over Bioshock 2 probably :p.

How can there be comparisons already when the game isn't out yet, and that the streams are of varying quality which aren't indicative of how the game really looks like?

No idea, but the rumors and the feeling it'll be better on the xbox was enough to change my order.

There aren't any rumors. It's just been people in this thread thinking the ps3 version is gonna be gimped. I highly doubt there will be any difference.

Yep I feel the same way, greatest was Aliens from Cameron and first was a great thriller! Third, well the mood just wasn't right!


Btw already preordered the pc release on steam, can't wait for this to release! Sup comm 2, battlefield bad company 2 and this... wow pc is on a roll ;)!

Though right now, I think everything that can be said about the game from the dev/publisher/marketing perspective has been said. Now just need to hear more impressions from regular consumers. If there's a demo it should be coming out this week and that should hopefully be sufficient enough for some advance looks.

I really want to try this demo out but regardless of its quality, I'm grabbing the ps3 version day 1.

Since the full game will be coming out almost immediately right after a demo would appear. I probably won't bother with it. And unless most impressions somehow turn out to be decidedly negative, I most likely will get the game.

I mean, if we were grading the fan-service this game provides on its own, then it would be certainly deserving of a high score.
