Sennheiser HD 598 Cs on sale for $99 @ Amazon

If they sell amazon/kindle gift cards at walmart, buy one with your walmart gift card.
I would kiss you but I don't know where you are located at! I will go to Wal-Mart as soon as I get out of work, hopefully Amazon is not sold out by then! Thanks for the idea!

I've been using my ps gold headset for almost 2 years and am fairly happy with it. Is there a reason to upgrade to these? $99 is a steal and I love what they look like.

While those(PS) headsets are indeed ok. This would see a nice clear benefit if you care. Here is the thing. If you state "I am fairly happy with it" Then the quality really needs to be high for you to notice an upgrade and you also need to look at what is it that only makes you fairly happy? Mic, low end? I feel these are very good quality for the price. But it really depends on your expectations and true want to spend money on something that isn't replacing something broken.

Good to know the sound quality will be a notable upgrade. Will these easily plug into my PS4 controller and have nice quality mic audio too with what comes in the box? I'll obviously be giving up the wireless feature of the ps gold headset if I jump in.

Closed versus open so the sound-stage is different so to is environmental leakage so be aware. Also its a thing to remember that some mics can pick that leakage up on open headphones.

If you care/notice good audio quality these will sound better and don't have near the aggressive bass presentation the 950 has. But that is user preference obviously.

Well, I'm a casual "one-set-for-all-uses" kind of a guy, so I assume closed would be better for me, plus I do enjoy the bass, so I suppose I'll stick with mine. :)

Will the mic work with Xbox Live chat? Would it be as good as the boom mic on my HyperClouds (I'm guessing not if on the cable)?

PS4 handles headsets normally and this is low ohm you should have no real problems here. Remembering that the PS4's inherently terrible battery power will be used to a higher degree with anything plugged into them. The mic is normally unrelated to all this and that Sen has an ok to good mic. Not amazing but workable.

Ya I mean if you had to replace those, or were not happy with the bass like they are in those than sure. These are really good headphones but its 99 bucks. Which for some gamers might be a lot more money than others anticipate when saying to instantly jump.

I've been happily using ATH-M50s for years, but dialogue from movies and games can be difficult to hear. Would these be an upgrade in that regard?

I have a pair of Audio-Technica ATH-AD700. How do these compare? I'm considering closed headphones because I have a new puppy I don't want to disturb while sleeping.

So, with the talk of proprietary connections, does anyone know if this mic actually works with this newer model? The only thing stopping me from pulling the trigger right now is the fear that the in line mic night be poor for gaming so the option of a boom mic would be welcome

Have not tried this boom mic, but have them saved in case the mic coming with is bad.
One reviewer said they hooked this up to their HD 598 and I need to buy one.

I too caved in. I don't especially need headphones right now, but I primarily use Sony Golds & I realize how much of an upgrade these will be. Thanks for linking that boom mic too, I may grab that. I haven't really been playing in parties lately but with a wife who likes shit TV I always have headphones on :)

So close to buying this. I already have HD 558's. Any benefits of this over those? I know this is closed vs open of the 558

I have the open 598s and sound output is incredibly low when plugged directly into the controller. Getting an amp was pretty much essential.

If I am not mistaken, from reading, the impedance on the CS is lower (23 Ω vs 50 Ω for the SE) which supposedly makes it far easier to drive the volume on the CS.

(if I'm butchering terms or completely misunderstanding forgive me!)

Regarding the open-back vs. closed-back models: I'm rather intrigued by the descriptions of the open-back soundstage, but exactly how much sound leak is there with the former? I ask because I tend to use my headset only at night when I don't want to awaken my parents downstairs by blasting audio through the speakers, so if there would be a noticeable level of noise even outside my room, these won't be an option. And as for the closed-back, what options do I have if I don't want the mic? Would it be active if I play online or just if I plugged the set into a phone, say; and if the former, could I just substitute the cable with any old 3.5mm cord without a degradation in sound quality?

Cheers!
My 598s double as speakers when I leave them on the hook

I was gonna get these, but I keep hearing about the open back ones. So I think I am gonna chance it for the hope of the open back ones going on sale next.

M50 and 598 are totally different beasts. M50 are better for some types of music and, atleast in my case, mixing. That's why I decided to get the M50 and not 598.

Now, for gaming and movies the 598 are def better. At the end, the M50 are Studio headphones (even if they're not 100% flat like other Studio cans)

The problem with the M50s is that they got recommended for everything thanks to it's budget price, but AT increased the price so it's not as easy to recommend anymore.

My thoughts as well.

I have a pair of Sennheiser HD 25-II. Are these much better? Also are there any good deals on decent ear buds? Thanks.

Ear buds or earphones? Go Shozy Monks for earbuds. For earphones, Trinity Audio Engineering Vyrus, Havi B3 Pro 1, Massdrop X HifiMan RE 00, Massdrop X Noble X earphones, and Final Audio Design Heaven II. Go to Head-Fi for announcements and/or further details.

So how do these things stack up against say Bose QuietComfort's? No active noise cancellation would be my guess, but I'm not up to date on all of the intricacies of this type of stuff.

Is there any amp that's compatible with PSVR? I wish the sound could go a little louder with the headset on for better immersion.

I just ordered the PC 350 Special Edition as a gift for a family member for $80. Would I be a bad person for not returning these and ordering this set instead?

Is the gap that big?

For comparisons your best bet is to go to Head-Fi. Go there for headphone information. Go here for gaming information. Best informed opinions and insight.

So what is the best way to run a cable from my receiver to my couch for these (inside some cable chases I'm running for speaker wire already)? It is about 30 feet/10 meters. Just use a 3.5 mm cable, go with rca with adapters on each end? And opinions?

I have g4me ones and debating on getting these. It seems I would see a small increase in quality but the I would have to buy a modmic, any thoughts?

Yeah, there's no active noise cancelling on these. But it should do a decent job of blocking noise as long you're listening to something on them, since they're closed back.

Is burn in even real? Even if it was, I can't believe people would be able to perceive a super slight change in audio quality.

I'm not a believer in it personally. And I've owned many high end cans. HD650, HD800 and now HD 800 S. All sound the same to me as when I first bought them. If you don't like the sound of a headphone, I wouldn't fool yourself into thinking it'll massively change when burned in, but just my opinion...

I don't know too many things about audio but i can say this; some of you asked a comparision between gaming headsets and this and the answer is these are light years ahead of gaming headsets.2 years ago when i was searching for a gaming headset i ended up buying well reviewed Sony MDR1-R and it made HUGE difference in gaming, movies, songs you name it.I don't want to talk like i tested all of the gaming headsets but i tested a lot of them and most of them are overpriced ugly looking and has garbabe tier audio quality/balance/clarity.

I also bought HD598 Cs with this deal i'm excited to test it they are probably going to be better gaming headset then my MDR1-R but MDR1-R's Music quality is superb i hope it turns out great.

My ether c flows have changed considerably since I bought them. Burn in of at least 200 hours was suggested by the manufacturer.

May not impact every can, but your ears definitely need time to adjust to a new sound signature.

I had some Audio Technica ATH-M50s or whatever theyre called and last year bought the Senn. 598s (not these but the older open brown ones) and I wasnt impressed at all. There's no bass to them and I have no idea what people hear in them that I couldn't. So if youre not an audiophile I'd watch what you're buying.

Maybe it's because I'm just a casual listener but I just didn't get it and so sold them.
