Is there anyway for us to play together in the demo? I don't want to play with strangers...

Yeah, you can get a party together by inviting friends if you wish before entering matchmaking.

Just did all the tutorials and a game, very entertaining stuff. Games last forever, but the purchasing thing is pretty elitist so I was struggling when I first started the game. On the whole, I'm pleasantly surprised, but somewhat scared of it's complexity to go for a full purchase just yet.

yea purchasing takes getting used to. sometimes you have to stockpile cash just so you can "save up" for the next tech or magic spell. i always invest in magic first since it doesn't disappear from your arsenal when you die.

i think....i'm going to dive in and purchase the game. I love it so much.. i miss it (had to return rental this morning). I have good feelings about DLC fixing the game.... plus if it ends up sucking, it's not like i haven't bought sucky games before. Gonna trade in a few games to take off the sting.

Can we get a list of GAFers that have done a 180 on Shadowrun in the OP, please. :lol

I think we need a 360 Turnaround Thread for all the people who got simultaneously juked by this, Forza 2, and Pac-Man CE.

:lol

I'd just like to say: I told you people!

To borrow a phrase, Shadowrun is fun.

That's the overwhelming feeling I have leaving the game after several hours of play. I had a really good time. It wasn't because FASA were a great bunch of guys - and they are. It's not because we were put in a super-controled environment and "tricked" somehow into having fun - we weren't. It's because the core game designs are really fun.

But did you people believe me? Noooooooo!

.....

I'm not bitter. Not at all. :p

Shadowrun demo available: now hate on it with informed opinions
By Ben Kuchera | Published: June 07, 2007 - 01:44PM CT

Shadowrun is a game that we've been covering because it's a good game, and also because the very idea of it sends gamers into raving fits. We've said repeatedly that people should at least give the game a chance before writing it off, and now Microsoft is giving you a way to do just that: the Xbox Live demo is now available for download.

after a week with the game I have to give it to FASA...with the right team this is the best multiplayer game out on 360 right now....played about 4 hours last night with a great team and had a blast....this game is really deep and balanced once you get the hang of it..not many weapons to chose from but the tech and magic make this one better than anything out right now....

if MS can release more maps for free this will be the sleeper of 07...

I played some of the demo today, but just the first two training missions. The game is fun. I actually said "Wow, that was fun!" when I finished playing. That being said, the $60 price point really turns me off for a multiplayer only game.

I just tried the demo, and, hey, um...

this game is, um...

it's uh...

this game is....

...

...

it's good! :O <insert thunderclap and organ vamp>

I'm only a mild multiplayer FPS fan, and I had a blast with this. The techs and the magics add lots of strategy and different play styles, it controls rrrreal tight, the very satisfying spouts of blood, the one level in the demo anyway is quite nicely laid out... I think I might... maybe... buy it. I dunno. If I don't feel like playing with others at times, is the option always there to play against AI bots? That would cement my purchase.

And there lies the rub. MS not only should release the maps for free, but announce NOW that there are FREE maps coming and they will be great additions to the game. But they aren't. Instead, the company that knows how to make a buck by the billions is asking $60 for a multiplayer-only game that has a steep learning curve and the necessity of getting a good team together to fully appreciate it. Now, if you expect to have a pool of people big enough to play said game, then you should try not charging 60 ****ing dollars for the game and then leaving the possibility that more charges are going to come for additional maps and game modes.

Get out your checkbook, then. You can play AI bots of five different levels. You can also do a huma team against a bot team, or any variation. At hard the bots are ****ing brutal.

Yup, you can play against bots in the full version. On the hardest setting the bots are pretty vicious.

demo is pretty fun. a lot of fun actually

and all the people i've played with so far have been pretty cool and very willing to work as a team.

bots are vicious even set to Medium. i must suck really bad or my bot teammates are ass.

D/Ling the demo right now

I would love to play with some GAFers (if the demo allows it). I love team-based shooters, but was waiting for the demo to make sure I would like this game.

Hit me up later to play!

It seems pretty key. You gotta have someone dedicated to rezing and erecting trees.

Ok.

Someone tell me how it is possible that this game has a Party System that splits the party up upon entering the lobby?

Are you ****ing kidding me?

Yeah, it will split you occasionally for the first match. I have no idea why.

The core game is pretty fun, but I think the menu system and stuff feels designed by a four year old. Why doesn't it TELL the people in your party you are searching for a game?

Damn, you demos. I really like the game. Really like it.

Part of me wishes they would have made a single player game with these abilities though, they are so damn fun to use. I think I'll keep my GF rental if it still grabs hold of me.

The Shadowrun matchmaking process tries to balance the sides so that the number of players and their average TrueSkill rank is equal on both sides. And yes, this may mean that parties get split up. It even happens that you are switched to the other side during a match (in-between rounds).

That's one of the stupidest things I've ever heard in my life. What is the point of having a party system then? This is like a game-breaker for me. Absolutely bonkers.

I'm with you on the SP, It would've been interesting to see what they could have done with level design.

The party splitting is very simple.

Almost all the games you join will already be in progress so..

Let's say the game you're joining has 6v6 at the moment and you're in a party of 4. If you join that game and it keeps your party together, all of a sudden it's 10 vs 6. So it's splits you evenly among the teams. Once that match is over and the next begins it will rearrange the teams and put your party together.

This demo is pretty fun, but the damn controls and mechanics are hard as ****ing hell to wrap my brain around. It's fine at first when everybody just has pistols, but by round 6 everything is going ****ing nuts. I hate that I have to have SmartLink taking up a spot in my triggers in order to use it. I should be able to turn it on/off in the cast-menu. I suppose it's not that way because then SmartLink would be way too powerful. Making it take up an inventory spot sorta makes sense like that, but dammit I wish I didn'to have it equipped. It should be passive.

Things like Strangle seem like they would be fine to just quick-cast. Same with the tree and even Rez. However, trying to think up a workable combo for my button assignments is a daunting task. Especially becuase I really like SmartLink. Teleport is pretty much required, so that only leaves room for one more spell/tech...

I don't use teleport or glide... interesting. I don't even think about getting them :lol. I use gust, it accompanies the shotgun perfectly for me.

I'm pretty sure that it factors in your party and only splits a party as a last resort kinda thing.

If you get on a bad team, this game is awful.

The number of people who don't know what they're doing is astronomically disproportionate right now because of how new it is.

man you are smartlink crazy :) i don't even use it, i don't care for the additional zoom in and I don't know that the aiming accuracy improvement is all that beneficial. as far as tech goes, ill take glider or (depending on game mode) enhanced vision over smartlink.

Played the demo.

This is a really good game. I understand why Blim was so crazy about it. Graphics aren't as bad when you're actually playing it, although the art is still not so hot. I can see the various strategic wrinkles in the gameplay.

It's unfortunate that it has been sent to die, but what can you do.

I tried the game for quite a bit today and thing it's pretty damn bad. But this is coming from a PC gamer- maybe my expectations are too high. This game has nothing on most PC shooters.
