Shawn Elliott Leaves 1UP, Joins Game Development

The number of staff members that have left 1up, in almost all cases for "bigger" jobs and positions, speaks highly of the people in charge of the hiring process, and the overall level of talent there.

If the staff didn't consist of smart and talented people, other companies wouldn't be offering them jobs. You can't blame Ziff for having good people. You should be happy such a place is around.

Thanks man. Sorry for just hopping in here out of nowhere -- I don't get to post that much anymore, unfortunately, just because work keeps me so damn busy. But I love this place. Just like I love 1UP. And it pisses me off to hop on here tonight and seeing people making uninformed comments like that. Yeah, yeah, I should know better -- this is what message boards are all about. But I expect better from this one.

Shawn has an awesome opportunity -- one that he'd be stupid to turn down. Period. All these other comments are just disrespectful to the other people at 1UP. And I see a lot of potential Shawn Elliotts in training -- it'd be a shame for them to get discouraged now.

Best wishes, Shawn. It's a bummer to lose your voice, but I'm sure your contributions to your mystery destination will be quality material. Congrats.

Hey yeah I know I'm just a random internet nobody but I felt like pointing out that Shawn's blog post clearly shows how much he loves/loved working at Ziff

And considering you listen to their podcasts and probably watch their shows, I'm 99% sure you'd love to work in that environment as well so let the hormones chill out for second dude

If there was ever a time for Ryan Scott to emerge from his shell that time is upon us. A lot of you may be mourning the loss of Jeff and Shaun, but I like to think they were jacked out of the podcast by Red Dragon. It's his time now.

I took a break from NeoGaf because the inundation of gaming news makes my head hurt sometimes. I find out Shawn's leaving and I have to come back. Hard to reconcile my happiness for such a cool dude stepping up to what sounds like an awesome opportunity in the gaming world with the total fucking bummer of a loss, but I'm doing it. Hopefully they'll cancel each other out and we'll still get our Shawn Elliott in the form of a great game.

He kind of hinted at it last week. He mumbled under his breath when Jeff was talking about leaving for a game developer, "You can take my word that I'll never do that." Jeff asked what he said, and Shawn said, "I'll miss you."

The more you know.

PS He's leaving to make a Sonic dating sim.

Excluding the period when I was laid off (and freelanced) I've been with Ziff for well over five years.
