Silent Hill Downpour - new HD footage

What a random collection of scenes for an official trailer. It is Konami so I'm not expecting much from their PR, but you can't just slap a bunch of random scenes together and one janky combat sequence to build hype.

The exploration/non combat stuff looks pretty good to me, but that combat... I think it's the screamers, but it's not doing anything for me right now.

Still day 1.

I could've sworn someone made a thread on this like a week ago and it had 5 pages of people talking about it or w/e.
Yes 5 pages fuck 100 post per page. /come at me bruh

Chairs gameplay reminds me 0rigins

I hope that in the final version, it looks a bit more intense than that; just bad FOV and camera placement, IMO.

But also hope that it's going to lead you down into some sort of Metroidvania Silent Hill sewer system that touches on claustrophobia as a motif (maybe a little bit of hydrophobia too).

Are those zombies?

The Otherworld in Downpour is very different from the previous games. They are completely different locations instead of reskins of the location that you're in (which is how the previous games did it). That slide is one way that Murphy is transported to the Otherworld.

i see nothing to get worried about yet, speaking personally. as long as i can't put ten chairs in my pants (0rigins style), the chair seems like an appropriate 'oh fuck what can i defend myself with' weapon.

the endless water slide seemed like the type of twisted reality level design that the Silent Hill series can never have too much of in my eyes.

i like the fleeing stuff in Shattered Memories, so if there is some of that, i'd be happy.

i'm surprised people aren't bitching about the Homecoming Pyramidhead statue on his desk.

this makes me nervous until i remember how the hands down best part of Homecoming was Hell Descent.

i hope theres some reality twisted in there, but sure, give me Hellraiser 2 and Nightmare on Elm Street 3 kind of stuff and i'll be very happy.

I'd say they're Spitters from L4D2.

AKA missing the entire point of the Otherworld, which turned locations you already visited on their head to show how twisted they became. You lose that entirely by visiting different areas.

I really hope this happens once, and that the worlds switch in different and creative ways every time.

There's no weapon inventory in Downpour. The weapon you have in your hand at that time is all that you have until you pick up something else.

There's no reason to complain because they've confirmed that PH isn't in Downpour.

Meh. WTF this kind of... "transport section"?! I hope they will change it in the final version. I hope for a more "explorative" gameplay instead running and fighting strange zombies.

Water slide is clearly Downpour's version of dropping further into hell, ala Silent Hill 2's hole-spelunking toward the end. Granted it's not as subtle or whatever, but it was still James just jumping down like 10 holes.

Anyway, still reserving my overall opinions for E3. Nothing about it is really turning me off at this point because what makes Silent Hill good, IMO, can't really be detailed in brief gameplay footage.

Bleh. The texture and polygon quality during the battle sequence reminds me too much of Homecoming. And the water theme reminds me of Shattered Memories. Not a good thing to be reminded of. Let's just hope that's not the only enemies and you're not running away from them half of the time.

Bascially, this. I have hopes for it as other SH's haven't let me down yet.

Love your avatar btw.

Yeah, that didn't look so great. The concept and art direction seems decent enough but there are a number of glaring problems with the visuals in that video. I'm surprised Konami would release something that buggy as a promo tool.

The team working on this need to touch up the graphics a bit, lock it at 30fps and work on that animation. Looks a bit glitchy. Combat also looks pretty weak right now, as if there's no weight to it.

Still...the rain looked nice I suppose.

EDIT - And as mentioned. That sliding section looked awkward and completley out of place. Almost comical.

I will say that the game isn't really showcasing any of the fuckupery that I like about the series; even Homecoming was showing more promise when it comes to that.

Basically I need a story that I can think about a little bit that actually makes some sense (Homecoming I think had a good story but the execution was extremely convoluted) as well as a lot of moments I can cite as being creepy as hell. If it gets these things right, at the very least I won't be able to consider it a big failure.

I think I've been okay with the past few games a bit more than others because since it's not the original team I don't expect that. I do however expect them to try as hard as they can.

I worded that really poorly. Murphy isn't going to be walking around the normal SH only to be transported to the Otherworld after the floor drops from under him. The world will transform like it does in the movie. The difference is that it'll really "transform", as in it'll change into something completely different. Game Informer described the change that the diner goes through in their feature on it

Reality goes rogue and the ceiling and walls tear away, flying miles above into oblivion. Stretches of rusted grating, pipeworks, and catwalks splotched with black replace the interior. Massive fan blades rotate with a deafening, rhythmic hum.

Murphy is transported to a different location through that slide at some point in the demo that the press played. I don't really think that it sounds like a bad idea although it's certainly a big change from what's normal in the series.

Tnks for the info. Crossed fingers for animations, tearing, combat sections and so on...
I have great expectation about the plot.

Every time new footage or screens come out for this game, I hear this in my head.

Hasn't this poor series suffered enough? Konami needs to put'er down for good.

I liked Homecoming, as long as the music in this is good I'll probably like it too.

And as long as the enemies are still f*cked up and based off elements of the protagonist's psyche.
