Silent Hill Downpour - new HD footage

You have to remember that weapons break in Downpour, so it's probably never a good idea to attempt to take on a pack of enemies like that. The fact that they're putting such an emphasis on that aspect should indicate that you should use your weapons more as a way to push enemies back in order to run away rather than using the weapons in order to kill everything in front of you. At least hopefully that's the case.
But so often.. in games like this (and Killer7, for different reasons) you get the hang of taking on the mobs, you get used to the AI behaviour. And you naturally exploit it as a player. Fundamentally undermining the dramatic arc of the horror game.

I don't think you should be in the position to be fighting enemies in such a way. Allegedly Siren on the PS3 did it well because the controls were janky as hell, but this looks a step too far. Perhaps an example of Japan imitating the West a bit too much.

That's probably a still frame from the E3 teaser trailer that showed up recently. FYI, they call these things the screamers.

I don't like it at all, especially with the long hair.

I came up with the idea years ago I joked in the SH forum about making an enemy (I sorta meant a nurse) that grabbed you and screamed in your face. Hope they didn't rip off my idea.

The screamers look way too humanoid. Not very scary at all, as far as I can tell, but maybe we'll see when more footage rolls around.

I feel sorry for any team who has to work on a SH game. Fans are never happy regardless of what is done. Must not be very motivating for the teams when you work on a game that ultimately will only be played by SH fans, and they already don't like it.
Poor them. Pitching their concept to Konami because they smell money, then be compared to earlier developers in the series that actually knew how to do things right. "In a perfect world, our game would be judged on its own merit, not how it matches up to its predecessors", MY ASS.

PROTIP: If you would like your game to be judged on its own merit, develop an original game and don't license an existing series.

I see a person in a bunny costume.

By the way, wrong Left 4 Dead special infected. More than screamers, they look like spitters :p

I always wanted to see the Robbies running around Silent Hill. Part of what made SH3 so terrifying was expecting to see those things show up anywhere because I watched that "Usagi" video before I played it.

I think they wouldn't be so scary as actual monsters.
But having a Robbie costume twitch all of a sudden, or do something and then lay dead again would be pretty awesome.

I agree, but just seeing them moving in the background or just getting a glimpse of them in the distance would be eerie enough. It would be even better if they were programmed to move randomly, so you would never know when it would happen.

Agreed, but only if used very sparingly (or else you would expect it whenever you see one).

These days getting an original project being greenlit is a complete pain, and apparently at Konami even Kojima struggles. I'm confident these guys would rather work on their own IP, if they had the chance.

I liked how one of the creators/designers recently said "I don't understand how you could think this looks like Alan Wake".

The trailer started and I immediately said "Holy crap, it's Alan Wake.", and I kept that opinion all the way through.

Alan Wake sucked, fellas. Don't let Silent Hill Downpour suck, please?

Horror titles probably don't do too well anyway unless they're one of the big names like Resident Evil and Silent Hill.

One could argue that even Resident Evil cannot be classified as horror.

how many times would you have to hit something (especially some fleshy creature) in order to make a fucking crowbar bend/break??????

that's ridiculous.

I appreciate the designers trying to find non-cheap ways to utilize breakable weapons (i.e. quotes SolidSnakeX posted on the last page)- but getting a crowbar that will bend/become useless after x-amounts of hits is stupid as shit.

A crowbar should last forever, unless Murph is fighting the goddamn Terminator.

Maybe the crowbars are made out of that same steel they used in the Titanic that shatters easily when it gets cold. It does snow in Silent Hill sometimes.

Looks like a mud zombie who's turning into a tree.

I must say I'm pleasantly surprised by the trailer.

The middle part where it skips to the choral music seemed nice. But maybe that has more to do with the allusion to the SH4 e3 trailer.
