Siliconera Rumor: Tidbits About Sonys Next Killzone Game

What happened to their second studio that were working on a new IP anyway?

We didn't hear about Naughty Dog's The Last of Us until quite recently and they had been working on it for a long time. Internal studios tend to keep pretty quiet about things like that.

When a character is such an unlikable asshole that many people just want to see him die in every cutscene he's in, you know it's time to retire him from the series.

Rico was a pretty cool guy in KZ3. He was helpful and supportive. He was still a loose cannon, but not nearly as much as in KZ2.

I don't think he was redeemed for his action in 2, but I wasn't annoyed by him at all in KZ3.

^We haven't heard anything about hiring for positions yet though. Or have we?

EDIT: Actually, having checked their website, they are on a major hiring binge right now, including senior designers. With this, it looks a little bit unlikely we'll see what they have to show in terms of their new IP just yet.

Play as Helghast
MP more like KZ2 (KZ2 MP designer has returned to GG, so some hope)
Gunplay like KZ2
No move/3d shit

Then I'd give it a shot
Basically this. Warzone needs to return to its glory. No perks, no skills points, no deathmatch only.
I think there comes a point where you realize they're not going to utilize that potential because they are fundamentally incompetent. They've had three cracks at this, and I'd argue that KZ2 is the only partial success.
Guerilla has always been a C-tier developer. Their tech and art teams are some of the best in the business, but their management and designers are just awful.
I just want to punch Rico in the mouth. No redemption arch, no apology, just having Rico sit down and be quiet.
Rico has always been a terrible plot device. He needs to go. No explanation; no plot point. Rico should not be in the next game.
they know a large portion of the user base hates rico, but that's the point he's suppose to be unlikable
No. He is unlikeable because is poorly written and acted. He is constantly used to push a terrible plot forward by acting out-of-line, yet somehow he retains his military standing.

If you play as the Helghast, there goes my motivation to play the game. All the interesting characterization was in Killzone 1 and 2. Whomever they have doing their writing for 3 was a complete hack; the Helghast society was dry as fuck. No thanks to playing as the boring one note british sounding guys that are all generic rip offs of the soviet/nazi era that all generally wear the exact same infantry outfit.

Really though, you should always play as the good guys (ISA), but the subversion of the evil Helghast regime through characters like Hakha should have been the side focus on the entire series. Playing as Hahka, or a moderate Helghast under him, would be a cool diversion, but you shouldn't play as those boring as fuck badguys that just want to kill the good guys and murder trillions of people. Anyone whom wants to play as the Helghast/thinks that the ISA are the bad guys, is mental.

After how terrible and destructive Killzone 3 was, if it's anything like that on a narrative or gameplay level (holy hell at the MP level design), I'm out.

They tried to redeem him, still failed. That is how shit they are at telling a story.

When he got gunned down I didn't want to revive him. He was even annoying as he was bleeding to death on the ground.

Yeah, they made him more likable by making him less useless and mad but it wasn't enough. It's kinda infuriating to know that they had four maindudes in KZ2 but they choosed to
kill off Garcia (likable buddy char) and make Natko (witty burly man) into the co-op player in KZ3 (never heard of again in the campaign). BUT Rico is still in
!

Just a little advice about making threads:
- If you're not sure something is true, please don't label it as a "leak". Even if your source does. Label it as a rumour.
- Unless you think the source is beyond reproach, please include it in the thread title.
- Make the scope of the title reflect the scope of the information being presented. If it's a blowout, say it's a blowout. If it's like this, just a few little plot details, reflect that as well.
- If your source's title is not accurate, come up with your own.
- If your source's title is accurate, please don't sensationalize it on your own.
- Make sure you're quoting the original source, rather than a blog that's reblogging Joystiq's mention of a reblog of a NeoGAF post.

We've been having a lot of threads lately whose titles are like "Explosive leak tells everything about Halo 5" -> thread contents: "Non-name blog's source claims Microsoft has started internal preproduction on Halo 5". This isn't anywhere near the worst case of it or anything and most of the stuff above wasn't in the original title so it's OK, I'm just posting this in case anyone here ends up making threads in the next little while. Thanks.

C'mon man, they're at a least B Team quality.

I'm interested in seeing how they might change the Tactician class in this game, assuming this isn't an SP only Vita game or similar.

The ability to drop spawn grenades anywhere in KZ2 gave it an almost meta-game type quality by directing forces and countering enemy spawns. KZ3 simplified it for the sake of limiting the general dumbassery that comes with placing spawns anywhere, but it eliminated the more dynamic game flow. I'd hope for the more freeform KZ2 tactician, but who knows if all the classes will even remain.

What I liked about Killzone 1 and 2 was that when all the enemies were dead and the room was empty there was just silence. I remember feeling almost depressed when playing Killzone 1 with the emptiness after firefights. I had the same feeling at times in Killzone 2 but never in Killzone 3, too much buddy-buddy.

I'd love for them to really go full out european war thriller that just happens to be a fps. That's the only way I can see this franchise work. But personally I'd just like them to bury it.

I enjoyed Killzone 2.

Let me play as Helghan, the Jin-Roh guys have more personality and are more likable than the GDI assholes I always had to play as.

Might as well just go all the way and make a Jin-Roh game. At least with that, the writing is done for the members of the Wolf Brigade.

Am I like the only person who actually likes Killzone 3 more then 2?

kz3 is complete garbage

kz2 is the ps3's greatest fps. arguably FOM. kz2 beats it because of MP.
also the Multiplayer is the exact opposite of a shitcakes. Its the best multiplayer fun since Gears 1.

REALLY hope they make the guy responsible for the crazy color pallet and art direction sit in a corner.

Well, I love the universe and setting, even though the story is usually shit. But it's kind of funny in a Bulletstorm-ey way, just not that obvious.

Also, dem suitz, dem gunz and dem wheelz. Love the design.

I was hoping they would move on from this terrible franchise.

To each there own, but I'm glad they aren't.

I think everyone was.

Right, because you somehow speak for everyone...

For me, I am happy that this franchise isn't dead and I want to see it continue. That speech they listed was very, very appropriate for Killzone, so it seemed pretty legit. I really, really liked it. It definitely sounded like it could be in the future, long after the end of Killzone 3. Pumped!

I just hope they save Killzone 4 for the PS4. Killzone on the Vita better get a good showing at E3, if they show it at all.

The control of KZ3 allied with the focus of KZ2. I felt like KZ3 went places just for the sake of variety. Then again, if they can do it better then so be it.

I just wish we could play from the Helghan side as second campaign of sorts.

Also, is there any vita footage for this illusive KZ game?

Would you rather be Helghan and shoot ISA or ISA shooting Helghan?

Helghast shooting ISA. At least the Helghast have a leader you can rally behind. The ISA are just generic dudes doing generic things. As a Helghast I'd love to be able to visit where they hid all the women and children etc.

KZ3 controls was the best refinement of the controls, have it like that in Killzone 4. Make the campaign more like KZ2, the vehicle sections in KZ3 were not that good and dragged on too long.

Really?

Not your cup of tea? Sure.

A terrible franchise? Objectively incorrect.

I really wish more people were able to differentiate from terrible and not for them.

Just because you dont like a popular franchise does not make it crap....

That don't stop people from shitting on CoD though.

Hey Guerrilla if you're reading this post please bring back alt fires and character selection ala Killzone 1. Thanks duders

Also this. Different playable characters who play differently from each other added some more depths to an otherwise by the book FPS.

Don't you think shooting the ISA is more generic than shooting the Helghan?

Shooting them would be more generic, but I think playing alongside the Helghast would be more fun, especially the one liners they come out with. Plus, if it means my motivation the whole game is to find and kill Rico, what's not to like?

Sorry man, it doesn't work. This game would be torn to shreds if all you did was fight generic ISA. Its like a horror game where you are the monster killing puny humans.

I would like a new Killzone Liberation in my life. I would actually purchase a Vita for it.

Each Killzone so far had things i enjoyed.
The first had the character selection, anti run-n-gun pacing and alternate weapon fire.
The second had the graphics and improved weapon repertoire
The third had better controls, especially move incorporation
And Liberation was just great all round

But really, apart from Haka in the first, the characters have just sucked. OK mostly the ISA characters. The helghast characters are boss.
And they really do need to flesh out the story better. The actual lore/backstory is brilliant

This is a series that should be so much more. Great backstory, great technology, great universe. It should be FPS heaven. Unfortunately due to some woeful design decisions in some pretty major areas, notably the level design across the series and the fucking shocking multiplayer balance issues in KZ3, I can't say I'm too excited about the next instalment.

Prove me wrong, please.

It should be realized by now that Guerrilla is a mediocre developer. They've only made on good game which was for the psp. While the PS3 efforts have been disappointing. Sony has given Guerrilla three chances with huge budgets to make something great and yet they continue to fail. Shame such a more talented developer like Sony Bend gets stuck making handheld games, yet all their games have been better than Guerrilla's efforts.
