simplest way to disable a car from starting up??

I pay for fuel, I pay for maintenance etc and my sister has gotten into habbit of freeloading. She just wastes all the fuel going back and forth. This needs to stop!

How do I prevent the car fron starting up?

Instead of responding like a petulant child taking their ball home, have you considered talking to your sister and creating a list of rules she has to abide by if she wants to use your car?

Keep the gas tank near empty. This won't prevent her from taking the car but at least she might be willing to put gas when the light shows up.

Takes car apart instead of taking her keys away.

Wait, so you don't even use the car yourself?
I use it a lot. My sis is a rude bitch, I dont want to argue with her. She just comes up with excuses

Bro this is what I did last weekend on sunday. She had to go meet her clients and I told her 4 times to refuel the car before taking the highway. The next day I checked and there was minimal fuel in the car, it could have stopped at any second! This is how she rolls

On some of my older cars I used to tap into the fuel pump circuit and install a switch for it under the drivers seat.

Or just hide the keys...

You should swap the license plate with one belonging to a car that appears on a stolen cars list. That way, if the police find her she'll be locked up in jail and won't waste your fuel anymore.

You're welcome, OP.

You're going to have to talk to her about this eventually. If you do this to the car and she can't use it while seeing that you still can, she'll figure it out pretty quickly. The ensuing argument will most likely be even worse than if you just talked to her about it now.

Which of you owns the car?
If it's you, sit her down and have a talk. Take the keys away if necessary, or take her name off the insurance policy if it comes to that.

I dont want to be super rude or argue with her since she just had a surgery a while back. If she thinks the car is breaking down, she will avoid it

In cases like this it is usually worthwhile to try and imagine the worst case outcomes, in this case your sister discovers your ploy. If that were to happen I imagine the resulting confrontation would be magnitudes worse than simply having a heated exchange about your feelings of unfair treatment regarding how she uses your car. And trust me her discovering your strategy is more likely than you think

uh, if that was my sister, I would phone the insurers, take her off the insurance, and then let her know as such, and that if she did she'd be breaking the law, risking a jail sentence as you cannot drive without being insured for the car in question.

dunno how insurance works outside of the UK though

So what are you gonna tell her when she notices you're out with the car?

You'll remove the battery every time you're not using it? lol

Don't tell her that fuel and maintenance are expensive and you'd like her to contribute something. Instead make her believe the car doesn't work, while you still use it in the meantime.

Yeah, I don't see what could go wrong here.

If you can drive, you can face an argument. Explain to her how thee concept of gas and maintenance works. Take her to a used cars lot and tell her to buy her own damn car.

Pretending the car is broken down will not fix anything.

Dude... Man up. Tell her point blank put fucking gas in the car or walk to see her clients. Don't argue leave it at that and dont puss out and give her the keys.

My dad gave it away to us, it was really old and required a lot of maintenance work ($1200). She hasnt really put a dime in it and drives it around like she ownes it. I cant even goto the gymmm
Fuck

I'm gonna go ahead and prescribe you a pair of balls. Take 2 every morning for a month, then I want you to come back to see how you're doing, OK?

Nah, but seriously. Just talk to her.
At this moment, it seems like you're trying to avoid confrontation. That's not bad. Still, it seems like she's taking advantage of your vehicle and it is something you both need to discuss. Tell her to stop giving excuses and to pay for the gas.

Lol, why don't you just talk to her? This may be a dumb question since I'm not aware of your situation but this solution won't solve any problems.

I wont win that argument. Introvert vs complete bitch? Who will win? I keep telling her to refuel but she doesnt listen.

That's fair. She just sounds like a difficult person which kind of explains everything. Not everyone can be reasoned with. Carry on.

Sucks that she isn't pitching in on gas though. I mean that's common courtesy.

Fuck

Few things:

1) You don't just remove a starter like pulling out a fuse. It's beneath your car. It requires tools. And, like, a hunk of time. Depending on your car, it's not too brutal, but still, stop trying to fake it's broken down when you don't know enough to find a solution yourself on how to make it look broken. Pulling the starter, for christ's sake...

2) If both of you own the car, then you, too, are being a petulant child for trying to get her to make believe the shit is broken. As opposed to the, ya know, grown up thing of telling her how you feel. If both of your names are on the title, that's tough. Try to work with her or get a new ride.

3) If her name is NOT on the title, take the damn keys. That's the solution. If she won't give them to you and drives off, call the cops and report your car as stolen.

Yes.

Really.

Pulling the starter... are you out of your fucking mind?

EDIT: It reads like you both own the title and talking to her isn't going to work.

I suggest cargurus.con to help you search for a new vehicle. I'm not trying to be a dick, but that's the option with the least amount of headache.

Let it run empty, siphon the remaining fuel into a jerry-can and then you'll have a fantastically organic way to broach the subject with your sister when she complains about not being able to drive to work next time.

Yeah, give her a taste of her own medicine
