I just rewatched the intro credits to the movie and did anyone catch what could possibly be a reference to Silva before he went rogue? It's the segment right before Adele goes "where you go I go" and in that sequence it looks like someone is strapped to a chair and shaking and their head is tilted back with their mouth open. Idk that part reminds me of when Silva said he took the cyanide pill while in captivity.

For reference:

It would be awesome if is Silva in the trailer. I never noticed it, good catch.

When my UK steelbook arrived, I was worried because the info on the back indicated that it was region B. I tried it on two different blu ray players (one being PS3) and it worked. In fact, the dvd worked too which really surprised me. I figured only the blu ray would be region free.

Sam Mendes has revealed that he is NOT going to direct Bond 24 in an interview.

I'm in a train right now so I don't have link or anything but I read it on ComingSoon.net. It's one of their latest news stories.

“It has been a very difficult decision not to accept Michael and Barbara’s very generous offer to direct the next Bond movie. Directing Skyfall was one of the best experiences of my professional life, but I have theatre and other commitments, including productions of Charlie And The Chocolate Factory and King Lear, that need my complete focus over the next year and beyond."

edit: Weird, I didn't copy and paste that link into the quote. MAGIC!?

Well, I guess we know how they're going to get the next one out next year without treading on Mendes's theatre commitments. New guy in soon.

It's a shame, though- particularly if it means Deakins is gone too.

Really? The listing before it came back said it was explicitly [REGION FREE] in the title and now it says [NTSC], you think they actually went ahead and changed it (due to demand, maybe)?

Holy crap, I can't think of anything else that could be a reference to. Nice catch.

loved the movie. References, acting, new Q, action, Bardem and Mallory. Silva's prosthetics scene creeped the fuck out of me

Just watched it. Visually it's stunning but I found it to be kinda meh. When they were booby trapping the mansion I started to laugh since it made me think of Home Alone.

Literally came to post something very similar to this. Pretty disappointed with the film to be honest, although that's my fault for leaving it so late and having expectations due to the hype.

Sigh... I rented this movie (AppleTV) last night, just because GAF's hype...

It was an average movie... nothing special. I really don't get the visually stunning thing. It doesn't have anything stunning. $3.50 dollars wasted. I should have rented Life of Pi.

Dayum... I need to stop trusting GAF's hype.

Did you like the previous Bond movies featuring Daniel?

Yes. I enjoyed the previous movies way more than this one.

Interesting, what did you not like about Skyfall? I thought it was very solid. Good acting, very good cinematography, good soundtrack. Story was well paced, ending was a bit off for me, but it was worth it in the end. I thought it was very good. Lots of fan service too.

It's not just GAF, a tons of professional critics put it very high in the Bond lineup. I just don't think is very special. So what if the cinematographer is great? I don't care about the plot, nor the bond girl. The villain is interesting at best, I mean whatshisface has done creepy guy before. They just add a 4th act to the traditional 3 act story and make M more important and people jizz'd all over the screen.

Sam Mendes was very smart to not come back for another go, he would not have lived up to the *critical reception* of Skyfall (actual quality notwithstanding).

I'm not saying it was bad.

But I expected way way more (specially in the visual/cinematography aspect) because of GAF's comments.

Its fine, obviously everyone has different tastes and expectations. I guess it helps to keep expectations in place, especially when its GAF lol, things can get out of proportion sometimes.

There were a few things that broke my immersion as well:

1. Bond removing the bullet fragments himself, three months after he was shot, with a knife. Like, what? I don't know what to italicize in that sentence.
2. Where was his wound from being shot by Moneypenny?
3. Why was Silva of Spanish descent? He clearly wasn't born in the UK at all, since he had an accent.
4. Bit nitpicky but day changing to night in the middle of the helicopter scene bugged me.

Loki

Count of Concision
I enjoyed the movie for the most part, but did anyone else see M's line where she tells the other dude (I forget his name) that "whoever is doing this comes from the same place Bond does - the shadows" and also the villain's graphic disfigurement scene as too similar to The Dark Knight Rises?

Seriously. And you could tell Skyfall was written, filmed and locked in the four months following TDKR.

Not sure if that was meant to be sarcastic, but I was actually going to ask when filming completed for Skyfall based on those scenes above I mentioned. I know they released about 4 months apart iirc, and I was going to say that I doubt it could have been based on the timeline, but who knows. Just seemed odd.

Is there an actual list of exercises Craig did to get his body for skyfall? I know he did compound full body workouts, but I'm curious what exercises, though. The internet is full of fake routines to get hits.

I know a legit workout was released for Casino Royale, but I dunno about Skyfall.

I loved the movie and that had little to do with the final act. Don't get the hate for the bond girl, she's one of the few i actually liked. Not to mention they're mostly only there to be hot and god damn is she.

Okay so, I've just finished watching Skyfall and whilst I thought the action was fantastic there were some weird plot holes.

Maybe it's me at fault and not the film. I'm sure I didn't miss anything but anyway, how on earth do we go from Bond after the guy who he was after on the train to going to Shanghai? Did I miss the link here?

Before that though, Bond is shot whilst in the digger and has no reaction to it at all XD.

One of the minor things was when Silva is dressed as a cop, and there's a whole bunch of other coppers around when he's escaping from the shooting at M's hearing and none of the other cops even think to ask who the heck he is.

Oh, and of course, the shot with a rifle and falling and surviving xD. However, that one was obvious that he'd survive.

I liked the film. Give it an 8/10, mainly for the action. Although plot wise, it's the weakest of the Daniel Craig films imo.

Edit: Also a shame we didn't get to see Bérénice Marlohe more. Much much better looking than the average Eve.

did you completely miss the part where Bond gets back to MI6? Q informs him Patrice is using a known alias and traveling to Shanghai. About the other stuff, well he's Bond, he's not gonna flinch at some bloody bullet!

You're right. Just watched it back. No idea how I missed that. :|

True, he is Bond, but it's a bit unrealistic to be shot and have no reaction. The fall after the rifle shot also was far fetched. That said, still enjoyed it. Thinking of it more highly now thanks to you, and me missing that part. What a fool I was.

Rewatched this recently and was still kinda bored by the beginning car chase--there's just something off about it. I wonder how it would have turned out if Deakins had filmed it.

yep, the tone of the movie seemed to scream more realism, but then you just have to accept the fact that it's Bond, crazy unrealistic stuff is bound to happen sooner or later

So I got around to watching this movie. HATED it! Outside of the cinematography... it was BLAND! The story/plot, the villian, the new characters... ALL BLAND! The action was putting me and my whole family to sleep!

Casino Royale is still the best Bond flick with Daniel Craig.

Just watched it today.

Impressive cinema work. Desktop wallpaper galore.

Bland story.

Why is 007 still an agent for failing all his missions? Not getting the first target. Letting the main villain escape. I thought his last objective was to protect Mallory.

Felt like this movie was made to setup for future iterations of Bond for the new generation. All young people. New blood. Almost like a prequel.

Great villian although it felt like he was from Nolan's Batman world. A gay Joker with a more disgusting Bane mouth prop.

Oh my god, the bloody irony on the title of the new James Bond novel...

'Solo' revealed as title of William Boyd James Bond book

Solo will be the title of the 1969-set spy adventure, which will take 007 across Europe, Africa and the USA. Boyd, who announced the title at this year's London Book Fair, said that he has had "tremendous fun" penning the story.
