Hah, shit, well now I don't even want to watch it. I doubt I'd get through it either.Watched a few minutes and god damn thats a real elitist PC gamer wankfest.
I turned off at him saying KB+M = only choice for serious gamers

But it is a terrible UI for Skyrim. Who the hell uses a console UI for a PC format? Even ports are kind enough to make their UI responsive.
Yep.
Hell, fully modded Oblivion feels livelier than fully modded Skyrim. I have more mods in Skyrim than Oblivion yet Oblivion feels fuller still.
It's successful despite its bigger flaws of being a step down and buggier (hell, PS3 issues). It shows that they can churn out things that are presentation-deep but be successful regardless.
And again, that's the idea - it's flawed yet successful. If Two Worlds gets very successful it would obviously have so much vitriol towards it. What would you think would happen if it posted a praising War Z article?
90% of the video is about the game, not the controller.Watched a few minutes and god damn thats a real elitist PC gamer wankfest.

Better mechanics, sure, but not as strong design. I can still enjoy all the euro jank out there without problem because of how refreshing these games are from a design standpoint. More so if they happen to be RPGs.
Edit: I would say the Rage has impeccable shooting mechanics that put STALKER's to shame, but the design of STALKER puts Rage's to shame. In the same way, Crysis 2 and 3 have better gunplay that Crysis, but they are nowhere near in the design standpoint.
Why would anyone expect anything more from fluffy video game lists/rankings? They're usually bad across the board.you got it all wrong, most people liked skyrim. but putting skyrim as the best PC game of all time is just ridiculously delusional
bioshock infinite being one spot above hitman blood money is the most heinous insult that's ever been directed at me.

Yeah I saw this in the magazine, Mass Effect 2 was number 2 also. I was sickened.
Why is this than not an issue? I want to see meaningful criticism of Skyrim, which there has been in this thread, not just "lol Skyrim is da worst game evar, and anyone who picks it is a teenager who obviously hasn't played deus ex or some crpg." People's opinion on something shouldn't be factored by anything other than the game in question. If someone moderately dislikes Skyrim or feels it's just an average game, but than feels compelled to point to people how awful and dreadful it is to over shadow its critical praise and commercial success than that's an issue. I can never get a sense of how anyone truthfully feels about anything anymore because everyone has the need to be more loud and cynical than the last person.
Oblivion has the best quests in the entire Elder Scrolls series.
Come at me.
well ME2 is 2nd and that doesn't even support controllers, even though the ui is pure console stuff where you can't even use scroll wheel to scroll text boxes.
As bad as people rag on Skyrim by comparing it to Dark Souls, now people comparing it to EVERY game EVER is going to make it slagged even more.
Fucking great game and a huge improvement over Oblivion (except for the quests, which again, were much better in Oblivion), but not the greatest GAME of all time. That won't matter though, because people will be at Bethesda's throat over PC Gamer's declaration.
I don't see how you can just brush aside better mechanics and controls. If the act of playing the game is more enjoyable, than that goes a long way in making a better game. Even people who enjoyed Deus Ex recently, do so with the expectations that it's a 10+ year old game. If Deus Ex was released today with those graphics, mechanics, controls, etc. I couldn't see it getting anything more than a cult following on the likes of something like Deadly Premonition or Alpha Protocol. And if were making an objective list today in 2013 you have to take that into account.
I'd love to see the clusterfuck of playing Dota 2, LoL, or any other game of the same genre on a gamepad.
Well I am not saying a controller is a perfect substitute for every single game designed around KB+M but the exact same thing is true of other games designed around a controller like racing games, platformers, fighting games, etc that just suck on keyboard and mouse. It goes both ways. There is no one true perfect control method.
And saying "But I have a Wii" didnt make his position any better.
Its been a few years since I heard the old "consoles = where all the dumb games are" argument.
I like PC gaming. I play a bunch of PC games. I am playing the Witcher 1 right now but come on. The guy in that video are just embarrassing himself.
...did you just filter out every criticism on the game? I'm pretty sure "buggy, messy, lacks depth, etc." aren't subjective at all.
.
That's a pretty embarrassing pick. Oh well.
After two or three minutes I skipped to "the main argument," so forgive me for asking, but how exactly does he connect the dumbing down to the move to consoles? He says a lot about input mechanisms and horsepower, but the main objections he raises* are not directly traceable to either issue. The inability to fail and at-all costs preservation of the player's ability to see and do everything seems to be more a product of seeking an expanded audience (which indirectly implicates consoles) than working with weaker hardware and more limited input mechanisms. And the reduced conversations might actually be a result of Bethesda spending relatively more on art and graphics than on writers. I can how the UI could be pinned on the prioritization of consoles, but is there some point in the video where he connects the dots for his own arguments?

Dude, exactly what the fuck are you talking about? You are continually missing the point I'm making and fixating on something that has no baring on at all on what my argument was about. I'm not disagreeing with the criticism towards Skyrim or just brushing it aside, in fact I agree with most of it.
Morrowind is the #1 PC game of all time, not Skyrim.
I can't really judge since I haven't played it yet, but it's pretty surprising that such a recent title would be their #1, and certainly that it's one that didn't meet with (near) universal praise. Is there anywhere I can view the full list?
Awful combat
Simplistic laundry list quest design
Shallow RPG mechanics
Repetitive dungeons
Level Scaling
Virtually zero impact on the world...
But hey, it is pretty!
Yeah I saw this in the magazine, Mass Effect 2 was number 2 also.
Then why can't you see how people disagree with it being the top then?
Now am I saying you aren't allowed to dislike Skyrim? Of course not
Yes there are people who "hate it because it's popular", but that doesn't mean everything that goes against it has that mindset. Just because it is presented in a sarcastic/cynical tone doesn't mean it lacks substance.
Skyrim is a great game... with 50 mods
