Sliders, what the hell happened ?!

There was the evil Professor episode where it was implied the good Professor was left behind on that world. So I was always waiting for him to come back.
It's like they knew his death was coming, so they wanted to add a safety net in case they could get him back some day. But that day never came.

They basically lost their budget to do cool shit. Normally, the show gets canceled at that point but in this case, they decided to continue on.

Yeah, reading some of this stuff now is very depressing and sad. And it sucks because you can clearly see the obvious mistakes now that occurred in this. And it only makes it more obvious why I stopped watching when I did, because that was the point when it was clear the show's quality dropped badly.

That guy Peckinpah really was shit. Brought in his own choice actress who badmouthed the other actress. What a scum Wuhrer turned out to be. I never did like her character anyway :P

I didn't watch this show. But this might have made me quit on the spot.

For some context, each time they slide to a parallel earth the sliding device has a random timer on it, sometimes days, sometimes weeks, sometimes minutes.

That time they had like a minute, so the gate was the quickest way to get an idea what earth they were on.

Still stupid.

I will never get over that one episode where
they actually get back to their original timeline, but the little gate in the yard doesn't creek anymore so they assume it's another parallel world. Then when they leave you find out that they just fixed the fucking gate.

That shit made me SO angry, even as a kid.

hahahahhah holy shit

i distinctly remember this shit too

I was sucked in during the first couple of seasons and remember being so bummed when
Arturo died. He was my favorite character, though I also enjoyed the entire original cast.

I stopped watching at some point, can't remember exactly when- but I do remember getting a pretty good laugh out of the acting of
Roger Daltrey. What the heck was the lead singer of The Who doing on Sliders?

Fucking hell, it still makes me angry to think about. Just a total fuck you to the characters and the viewers.

Poor Wade, having all those cro mag babies.
And this was so amazingly terrible to do to an otherwise great character. I know there was behind the scenes drama but the show did Wade so dirty.

I forgot about that! Hilarious.

One of those shows that had so much potential that fell apart so easily once meddling executives and shit production people meddled.

Its the same kind of thing that Patrick Stewart did with The Next Generation Movies. He wanted action Hero Picard so the movies were designed around that and well we saw how that worked out. Even the final film of the crew could not drag people asses to the seats

I was pretty active with Sliders back in the late 90s, especially on SciFi's message board for it and I remember much of the bullshit that reportedly went on, much of it was already covered. You can also thank Bill Dial for how a good part of the fifth season turned out along with his pettiness which lead to his "testing" the network and that bullshit cliffhanger.

Oh and yeah the Post Traumatic Slide Syndrome plot point was supposed to come up again in the future but Fox pushed Tracy Torme out and brought their yes man in which lead to so much shit in season three and also writing out that story and eventually resolving what was revealed at the start of Guardian (which IIRC was the last episode Torme wrote) in a later episode that was a semi-rip off of the Time Machine and other things I'm forgetting. Fox didn't like Sliders being semi-serialized (which showed with their messing with the episode order because they wanted the more "exciting" episodes up front) and wanted it to be more action/adventure/dumber and wanted episodes to be standalone. IIRC Peckinpah actually told writers to watch movies, especially popular ones at the time to get ideas which resulted in all the lame rip offs like the Nightmare on Elm Street "inspired" episode.

Wow, Earth Prime and Dimension of Continuity are still around. O_o

EDIT: Yeah, Into the Mystic was the fucking worst. First time I ever actually screamed at the TV.

EDIT 2 The Sequel: Dammit Cleavant Derricks doesn't have his music on Spotify or anywhere streaming, I wanted to share "Remmy's Slide". Heh.

EDIT 3 Triple the Fun: At the very least season four was better than much of season three, Kari Wuhrer stopped being completely terrible since she was given something to really do. Oh, forgot to add the story about her and Lloyd having problems which lead to the blow up with Sabrina is funny because Wuhrer eventually also married a guy involved with Sliders IIRC. I'm not sure if that was true or not, the other story was that word got out that someone was going to be fired and John Rhys-Davies thought it was going to be Lloyd and told her which caused her to get upset though it was actually him. But I might be mixing things, it's been awhile.

I actually own Derricks's "Beginnings" CD. Besides "Remmy's Slide," "Incident in a Pleasant Grove" is a great tune.

RE: Season Four, I thought the whole thing was a mess and Colin is terrible, but "World Killer" is probably the last great Sliders episode.

It's been a long time since I heard the album, I use to own it before the CD book I had it in was stolen. Remmy's Slide was, so... So cheesy, I loved it.

That episode made me stop watching.
Freaking WD40 ruined it.

Oh yeah, Maggie's last name was Beckett with her father's name being Tom. I think was a pretty obvious Quantum Leap homage but I can't remember if anything was ever meant to come out of it aside from fan fiction running with it.

Numerous, obvious obstacles aside, I wanted a Sliders/Quantum Leap cross over. :(

Find this on Netflix and watch...

Modern day Sliders style show - but no one will fund a full series - so this extended pilot is all we got.

It is pretty good (second half is amazing!)
I both love and hate you for making me watch this.

That is literally the only thing I remember of Sliders.

You guys have no idea how good it feels to know that after all these years, I'm not the only who still vividly remembers the end of that fucking episode.

I remember SO little from Sliders, but I can recall that scene nearly SHOT FOR SHOT in my head.

Hahahahaha.

This. That was Season 2, episode 1, and I thought that's when the show immediately went downhill. Season 1 was so good, but I couldn't watch season 2 and on wards.

Did the show ever explain how the group survived the large tidal wave? At the end of the episode, they slid into a parallel world where 500-foot water wave was quickly approaching them, then everything blacks out and the episode ends.

I watched this show, but remember almost nothing about it. I do remember hating that they had killed off Rhys-Davies's character. I don't think I watched too far past that point.

The Cliffnotes version:

** John Rhys Davies' controversial death in "Exodus" (via having his brains sucked out, being shot and then left to die on an exploding planet) was caused by behind-the-scenes issues. Rhys-Davies allegedly insulted then-producer David Peckinpah (while drunk) at a party hosted by Fox brass when the series first began. Later on, when Peckinpah was promoted and gained control of the series, he used this leverage to convince the network to fire the actor (via the release of his episode contract), and gave him the fate he endured in the episode.

** Kari Wuhrer's presence on the show in the third season caused massive friction between herself and Sabrina Lloyd. During a script-reading, Wuhrer made snide comments about Lloyd's engagement to one of the crew members, which caused Lloyd to break down and cry in her trailer, thus holding up production for hours. David Peckinpah (who first approached Wuhrer to star on the show) used this incident to spread lies about Sabrina costing the network money, and eventually told her point-blank that he would support Wuhrer and not her (prompting her to leave the series). Even worse, Peckinpah later twisted the knife by condemning Lloyd's character, Wade, to being raped in a Kromagg breeding camp - the only reason it didn't come off looking even worse is because the production staff led a revolt to change the plot to something more meaningful (via the introduction of the Humaggs).

I love these two because they make it sound like Peckinah wasn't aware that it was all make believe and that the actors weren't being murdered and raped for real.

Oh my god. I remember that one now too. I remember raging on AOL with my friend who also watched it.
Like "How stupid are they? Why didn't they check other things????"

This is such a frustrating show to be a fan of because of all the troubles it had. The Professor and Remmy were my favorite characters and that's the primary reason why I kept watching until the end. However that shit with Sabrina Lloyd's character pissed me off even as a kid and I always wondered why they did that and now I know.

Seaquest DSV is a show I remember enjoying but then disliking. There weren't many reruns of that show from what I remember but I do remember the change in tone and how the lead young character had to fight to stay onboard the ship once the military took over and him hating the change.

Came here for squeaky gate salt. Not disappointed.

Wasn't it that they
only had an extremely limited window of time before they would have been stuck there, so they only had enough time to check that
?

Sliders is the reason why "Cro-Mags", "Creaking Gate", and "Kari Wuhrer" are phrases/names that always give me a slight tinge of fanboy rage.

I will say this, Season 3 may not have been that awesome, but I always remember it for bringing a villain concept I really liked when I was younger: Logan St. Clair

I have to admit, I did like the character of Maggie better than Wade.....

Though I had no idea of the backstage goings on involving them.

The start of the next (production) episode, the plague episode I believe, depicts them hanging off a tall building in the flooded city, wearing the same clothes they did in the previous episode. There is no explanation for how they got up there.

I rewatched this show and realized everyone on the show was a insufferable assholes.
They seemed to have the attitude "I'm sliding out of here eventually so I'll do whatever I want."
The episode that really cemented their assholeliness for me was Rules of the Game. They slid into a new world and just stared eating the food and drinking the booze and were all "Hey let's take advantage." They were all dicks.
Liked the show as a kid though.

I used to watch this as a kid and generally liked it. Then that episode happened where they got back to the correct dimension, but "this picket fence door *always* creaked... we're in the wrong dimension..." and they slide back, only to have a repair man walk out of his mother's house or something.

Even as an 11 year old or something, I just said "Fuck this." And stopped watching.

*edit*

holy shit, this

Look at it. It's made out of pure evil!

IIRC that is the first episode.

IIRC that is the first episode.

It's the first episode of Season 2 (Episode 11 - Into The Mystic).

Wikipedia said:
Although the goal of the show is to return to Earth Prime, the sliders have actually been to Earth Prime more than once during the series and left. The first time they returned was in "Into The Mystic". Quinn's double (known as The Sorcerer on that earth) was able to determine the sliders' home coordinates. However, since the vortex was scheduled to open in fifty-three seconds, they had to decide quickly whether or not this was the sliders' home earth. Quinn tested to hear if the gate to his house squeaked. Since it did not, the sliders decided that they were not home, so they left. Quinn did not realize that the gate had recently been oiled, which caused it to no longer squeak.
