Online cofirmed? :P

oh god please be true, please please please please

I see no reason why it won't have online when they said that was their basic plan.

It's the same crazy "oh no they're not talking about it it must not be happening!" reasoning like how people are saying Snake got cut because they haven't mentioned him

Dark World theme is quite possibly the best track in the Zelda series. It would be such a waste if they didn't make an awesome arrangement for it.

I think this game will be great and get good review scores but I don't think it will be the GOTY even if its the GOTC.

SSBB will be a fantastic game but won't get any GotY awards.

HOLY SHIT, I'M FUCKING BLIND DARK WORLD THEME IS IN THE GAME OMGMYTITSTHEJIZZZ!13132142435945

:lol :lol

The fact that there are at least more than 4 songs for each stage gives me hope that everyone's favorite song will make it in

So, with both Stickers and CDs, will we still see Trophies? I say no, due to the reality of the development situation. They'll give Stickers the description feature of the Trophies, if they even bother with that.

Anyway, did anyone notice that the stages have grayed-out logos of the game they're originally from ("Zelda: Twilight Princess" and "Super Mario Sunshine") sitting in front of them on the music selection screens? It makes me wonder what they'll put for more generic stages like Pokémon Stadium 2. Just a "Pokémon" logo?

Also, only a few people seem to have noticed the little up-down scrolling arrows. This means more than 4 tracks per stage/franchise!

And aren't these the first real full menu screenshots we've gotten? Looks pretty slick to me.

Just for the sake of speculation check the "Options /MY MUSIC" bar and there are 2 more pages of options. Perhaps there are more ways to customize individual stages?

Yes I think there will still be trophies. Plus I think you'll have to unlock the Assist Trophies by collecting them like the music CDs.

So, are there still people who think this won't be GOTY?

.....

It's completely disrespectful to all the other hard-working developers to say "GOTY confirmed" before we've even played all the games. I've played Bioshock and, while I find it hard to believe it will topped this year, I intend to play every game that releases for the remainder of this year with an open mind so that I might best evaluate each games quality. I know there will be some who will play Galaxy, Halo 3, Mass Effect, Brawl, etc. just to say they've played it so that they can downplay it because the game threatens their personal candidate for GOTY just as there already have been people that played Bioshock and Metroid Prime 3 simply to look for flaws in them. So, no, I don't believe wholeheartedly that this will be GOTY without a doubt.

And in the end, pleasing as nostalgia inducing tunes may be, games will win more points from me for incorporating fun gameplay and interesting features than they will for providing copious amounts of fanservice. Not that Smash Bros. doesn't have the former two qualities; on the contrary, it has a good number of features and excellent gameplay. I'm just saying an option like "My Music," while great and incredibly generous of the developer, doesn't make me want to immediately rule out all other games as being worthy of the GOTY crown. (Which is becoming a real burden on our evaluation of games anyway)

Well said. GOTY stuff is pretty lame. People trying to center their opinion as some kind of agreement among gaffers or others is laughable and it tends to fall into fanboy levels of "I'm right, your wrong".

I think your missing the point here: collecting CDs in game and unlocking new tracks plays a big part in My Music.

Of course they can always have custom ST but wouldn't it be a hell lot more fun to collect them? You know, like rewards/achievement points.
It will be fun to collect the CDs, I think you're right, but perhaps when you collect them all you can use your own music?

Dr.Hadji said:
True custom soundtrack off the SD? Well, you can always just turn off the music and up the SoundFXs.

Also, I doubt you would construct your custom sound track with as much careful consideration to its role in the game as these composers/Sakurai are doing.

"I didn't like the music in that movie, so I just started humming my own themes."
I realize I can play my own music within range of my television, but it's not the same, and I won't be able to weight my own music for every level. Also suggesting looping background music constitutes "careful consideration" that represents potential I cannot live up to is asshole.

Yes, I was completely basing my GOTY prediction on the 'My Music' feature alone.

Good one.

your other points do have merit, but I'll stick with this one

Well, the way you worded it made it sound like all doubters were supposed to be pushed over the edge to believers by this. And, like I said, Smash has the other stuff.

Yes, nice job avoiding the crux, as well as every other point, to my argument. :P

I noticed the arrows. I thought it was pretty clear by the way the update was formed that you would have at least quite a few choises to select how likely it will become that the tune will play. Also, besides the logo's for each stage, note that each stage also has a icon (Triforce, Mushroom in the picture). I like these little details, makes it feel complete. I also like how he uses a gamecube controller at the time when the screencaps where taken (big green A button). Ironicly, the purple colours and such match the gamecube style. And I agree, the menu looks slick and... "fun" in a way (don't know how to word it).

So actually, we've gotton not three but five updates today. New item (CD's), and a smaller one how the configuration menu looks like.

Keep in mind that each stage will have a set amount of music probably and that list will increase as you collect CD's. I could even see each stage starting with only on song and increasing as you go.

Disturbingly cool, original feature.

I haven't mentioned yet how much better the new Pokemon arrangement is than the old ones, right? I hated the music in the old Pokemon stages. Though now that'll probably be included too of course thanks to the latest zomgawesome. Also what are they going to do for Kid Icarus? Are there a lot of KI songs?

Agreed. The other features (assist trophies, stickers, collectible CDs) are more than enough to adequately replace the trophies from Melee.

Calm boy, calm. Most people saying GOTY confirmed are just saying that the update makes an already awesome game more awesome due to something they never dreamed would happen.

And we already know SSBB will be GOTY as long as it's similar to Melee.

How much stuff are they jamming on this little CD?!

I wonder if they are using the a dual layer dvd...

This is just truly amazing :)
Holy crap they could fit so freaking much on a dual layer dvd. I mean the Gamecube discs were only 1.5 GB, so if Brawl is on a dual layer wii dvd...that like 9.5 GB...6 times as much stuff....
*dies a happy death*

Holy crap, that was one hell of a music update! I wonder if there will be a way to assign some tracks to different stages, or if the same track will repeat a couple of times throughout the different stages.

Oh, I know. I have no problem with that. I just have a problem with all the people who earnestly post tha.t. It should also be noted that this isn't directed at Smash Bros. fans alone; there are PLENTY of games this fall that have people already convinced of the their quality being the greatest of the year. Just look at any Galaxy thread- the game has pretty much won GAF's GOTY before it hits shelves! (I suppose the optimist in me views this as a true testament to how awesome this fall and holiday season is.)

SSBM actually only took up 1 out of the 1.5 GB on the GCN disc.

I totally agree with you.
Cant stand those people claiming that "Bioshock = goty is a fact". So silly.

I will in all liklihood purchase a Wii for this game. Everything about it just screams "you must own me."
You should have bought one just for Metroid. But back to the topic:

OH EM GEE ME WANTS DIS SO MUCH IMA GON USE BAD ENGLIS.

Now iirc, Wii discs hold about 4.5 GB (someone please correct me if I'm wrong). If they plan on filling this disc up, we are looking at a game about 4 times "bigger?" I understand that's probably not an accurate comparison but still, holy crap this game is going to have a LOT of play value.
