One can hope that there's a Ladder Mode that allows rankings and such. He did mention MULTIPLE modes after all.
I hope/think you're right.

This is the sit back/relax online mode, where its basically a singleplayer game but not against the computer.

Hope you can see names in an other mode though.

Pretty awesome, but the 64 friend cap kind of limits the GAF interaction. There will likely be way more than 64 people playing here.

Here's hoping for a ranked mode too.

European won't be able to play against US/JP without lag I think, so it kinda tone down that problem...

It only doesn't track stats for random games.
Which is really pointless...how many of us are going to random smashes to play against the world and not just our friends? :/

WHat's the point of "Track stats against friends but not against random players" when most will be playing random matches(Online play).

It's not a game breaker or anything but seems really stupid and will cut into your record if all you can do is play against friends.

I join a game:

1) Game ends, screen pops up with players who you fought. Fire off a "invite to friend" to any person you choose, they can say NO for "the protection" and parents could turn off "recieve invites" as well...this could work for all games.

2) Press A to move on, goes back to main(online) screen.

Wins: 2+1!

Losses: 9999

Awesome, I just got another win in a random match, it counted for something!

3) Oh hey that person accepted my invitation! "Fernoca has been added to your friends list!"

4) Hey Fernoca, want to do co-op story mode? And maybe do a team battle 2vs2 online after?

FFS. COME ON NINTENDO! :(((((((((((((((((((

It was brought up before with the costs of translating with no profits, I don't think that matters to Nintendo: the blog technically falls under marketing.
Well, sure. And that's exactly why I'm suggesting that having adequate servers for Smash would be a priority for them: those costs shouldn't outweigh the loss of profit that might come about if the online was laggy and word of mouth got around.

Never happy are we?

Well, the best game I could imagine just got... you know, better, as far as I'm concerned.

I'm going to sleep now.

Fuck YES! I love megatons.

Thanks for not forgetting about me!
Like I could ever forget such a face :P

But seriously. Nintendo should do this...it'll allow friend codes still and parents can turn off invites in the Wii menu if they so choose.

I'm happy, the not getting any stats for random battles is kind of stabbing me in the side though. Everything else I mentioned is trivial, I just want to see my numbers rise damnit!

I've always thought of random matches as a sort of skill training, honestly--well, at least in a game like Smash where mindgames are factored in. To me not having records doesn't mean much because it's all about what I'm learning in the process. Playing against friends repeatedly is nice, but eventually I kind of understand their style and they understand mine and we can't help each other improve.

So much for "Bare bones wifi" sounds like sakurai has a lot planned!

as for no stats. I am guessing there will be "random play" and "ranked play" which will keep stats

Maybe they think their biggest audience (7-16yr olds) don't give a damn about stat tracking, online leaderboards etc????

Maybe this audience is not as big as many loves to think. I think that the fact it's Online is more then enough after all.

Jesus, GAF.

It's 3:30 in the morning. I still have to finish a short essay about Clytemnestra's murder of Agamemnon in said play. I also have readings and shit to do, and have to get up in a couple hours.

And you know what? I regret nothing.

I LOVE YOU MEGATON MONDAY!!!!

Ehh...maybe they'll have a rivals option like in a number of DS games.

I think, however, that the way they've set it up is that it'll be a lot less intimidating to other people out there who just want to go online and have a good time.

Personally, though random stats would be nice (maybe it'll be hidding in your gameplay time/match/stat section) not having stats in random matches are a plus in that they won't turn players away from the game...

That is until it gets flooded with teh haxx...

My point. My brother is a great player and we always tie/lose by mere inches of each other while our other siblings are dead 20 minutes earlier:D But we stalemate way to often and one of us loses by pure luck.

I want to meet people and play! I guess you could add Gaffers to your list so it's not hard to find friend codes/people to play with. But whatever, I digress.

I think it more of a challenge to improve and get to number 1 if theres a ranking :P

its... its Tuesday D:

I wonder how My Music will work in conjunction with online.
Like, if you have a certain song set to play 85% of the time and the opponent has it set to never play, will it never play or will it sometimes play? Or will it never play for them on their side of the connection but it'll sometimes play for you on yours? Or does My Music get thrown out the window for online and only applies to local multiplayer?

So much to ponder.

Metroid Prime Hunters has a system like that so it's possible.

I can't blame Nintendo for NOT ditching friend codes. The racist, immature, mind numbing garbage that goes on in Xbox Live is reason enough for them to stick with friend codes.

No kidding, those taunts would be even worse given that people wouldn't even have to worry about their voice being recognised. This is the right decision, I think.

You have the option not to...and you have the option to play with just friends...we're getting off topic here anyway.

You sound like a friend of mine, who is telling everyone he's getting Halo 3 "next Monday", and he even has a countdown ..one day ahead of Microsoft's official countdown.

Why?
Because, he's going to pick up the game at 12AM (Tuesday, Midnight Launch), but since he's not going to sleep ..it would still be Monday..for him... :lol
