oh my god.

pure awesomeness

i want to use my own backgrounds, make it happen, sakurai!

Holy shart, with the info that it (the created levels) can be read off SD cards, this could be a possibility. That would be the most awesome thing ever.

From what I understand this is a one-time thing for Sakurai. After Brawl is done he'll leave to work full time at Sora and whatever Nintendo employees have been on Brawl will be reassigned.

I'm going to guess Iwata will give him total creative freedom if that's what it takes to keep him in the fold. So he won't be making endless Smash Brothers and Kirby games.

Aah and before I forget it: Give me Ulala. With Ulala the game isnt just "pure awesomeness" but also kinda funky

Well, since an empty screen looks this way:

I think there's still a lot of room left for other stuff.

And that could be any one of the three map sizes, even though I think it most likely is medium. Ergo, there will be bigger maps. :D

I like how the first thing they think about is recreating Final Destination.

Well, at least it's a good thing that they can. The guys at Smashboards could even create their own set of tournament stages.

This has so much potential. You could use it to make the classic stages that wouldn't have made it as unlockables, design some training stages for yourself (say you can't wall tech/wall jump consistently or whatever else, just create a level that lets you practice that)...

Anyway, you can save those on SD Cards. Which probably means that you don't need to actually use the Wii to send them to people. Just copy the files from your SD Card and host them somewhere on the web and let people grab them. If this works (and I don't see a reason why it shouldn't), then expect me to post stuff here.

If it's anything like the Virtual Console data on SD cards expect that stuff to be a teeny bit more difficult than simply copying a file or two over to your PC.

STAGE EDITOR HOLY MOTHER FUCKING OF SHIT ASS JUST FUCK ME IN THE ASS

This is.. I mean.. its too good to be fucking true. This isnt even in the realm of possibility anymore. Theyve checked off pretty much every box in the list of my wildest dreams. I dont even know what to think anymore. again, HOLY FUCK/

That's what excites me most. Today, the last thing on my 'wildest dreams' checklist was, well, checked. This and Sonic were my two biggest hopes for this game, and all the other stuff like Wifi battles I expected but still crossed my fingers for. There's still months to go until release. Aside from Pac Man and Mega Man, who I think will be in there but I don't really care either way, I cannot think of another thing for them to put in. Every single thing from now on will be a total surprise.

it's already probably been posted, but i hope this leaves room for actual official downloadable stages from nintendo.
I know people out their are creative, but I hope this leaves room for scrapped stages from the team or even remasted classic stages.from previous smash games
Also i hope nintendo releases different downloadable kits that enable people to build better stages.
PLEASE

Never tried that. Is it totally impossible ?
I thought save files worked but the games themselves didn't or something.

Game. Of. The. Forever.

This is just insane... never expected something like this! I'm hoping you can also put in 'events' like scrolling/falling platforms and environmental effects (like the claptraps jumping up in the DK stages in Melee, tornados like in the Hyrule Castle stage in the original, etc) as well. Would be even better if you could put music on an SD card and use that as your stage's theme, but who's complaining at this point???

Teasel said:
not to complain but i don't understand why you can keep nintendo-chosen level only for a single day... if you really liked the stage you could just recreate it so why don't they let you save it and save yourself the work?
I read it as it will stay on the servers for one day, not that you cant save/keep them.

Well, they have no reason to implement any complicated copy protection system since stages are free, so I don't think so. I think they will be as easy to copy and share as game saves are.

Holy Jesus, people wanted it but I didn't think he'd go through all that effort to actually do it. Sakurai and Co are made of God and win.

Oh
eM
eFf
Gee
Megaton!
Sakurai reads gaf am confirmed, gaf prophets pwnd again (remember all "i hoped this would be stage creator... too bad"?).
Game of the Forevery Forever?
Whatever.
Score: Infinity*Infinity/10

Snowman (MOTHER) music!

Amir0x must be going insane right now since the theme of Snowman is basically the same as the theme of Winters. Fully orchestrated train to awesometown!

(edit: I was wrong. Snowman's music is the same as the Winters School music. Oh well, at least the dream was nearly realized.)

edit2: now that I think about it, perhaps Ninten will come join the fight with PK Beam and 4D Slip. Then that means that the three main characters (Ninten, Ness, and Lucas) from the three Mother games will be in the game, each with similar, but different moves.

But it could all just be a pipe dream as
the Snowman music was used in Mother 3 so there will probably be a stage like the Ice Climbers stage from Melee except now it has Yetis(?) and Ice Dogs and no vertical scrolling

After seeing this update, I'm shocked that I ever doubted the utility of a stage creator/editor. I cannot believe that Sakurai created new online functionality that is unique to this game alone but is also working around the Wii's inherent anti-online community nature. This is something I had written off as a pipe dream for the crazed fans. If he's including this with even more functionality than was asked for, he'll include a lot more.

Wow. I definitively didn't once in my mind believe this was going to happen. So awesome. All it needs now is voice and it is the ultimate package.

To some extent I'd actually be angry if they added voice support, because it would be a gigantic "fuck you" to Batallion Wars 2.

I didn't get a chance to fully read the update until now. Nintendo WiFi stage sharing? :O

You can create your own stages this time?! No way. REALLY?! With a feature like that, won’t I be able to play this game forever?!

Game of the Forever confirmed. Nate reads GAF.

Alright sakurai, listen up. You've delivered on everything I could possibly want. Now please just add SD custom music support to put in custom maps. PLEASE!

Come on guys. Be realistic.

A) Only one song per custom stage according to the screenshots
B) Nintendo would never allow sharing of unlicensed copyrighted music
C) Music from SD cards could contain naughty words to children's virgin ears
D) It would make the stage files much much bigger

That also goes for people wanting to use their own JPEGs as backgrounds. Do you guys really think Nintendo build in a mechanism that would would allow someone to use ANY picture they wanted as a stage background? Little kids would end up downloading stages with porno backgrounds from strangers.

This is what game development and interaction with a fan base should be like.
As much as I'm impressed with all the awesome being given to us, I'm even more impressed by the commitment to teasing and satisfying gamers through their daily updates.

didn't consider the wifi aspect of custom music, i figured just custom music would only play straight off your SD card a la Excite Truck. So maps downloaded via wifi wouldn't contain any custom music, just default.

By the way, this thread is reaching 2mls views, wow :lol
And, if sakurai drops so many megatons and its still almost 3 months until release of the game, i dont think we are actually prepared for awesomness of SSBB O__o

wouldn't it be fun to have a simple character maker which worked something like this:

You choose a Mii to represent your char.

You can choose from any move, from any characters move sets, and you assign them to each. (all B specials, A neutral, A tilt, A smash, etc)

Then use your Mii! (wouldn't care if it could be used on wifi or not, but probably not)

could get more complex, by being able to modify run/walk speed, friction, gravity

Things like fox's blaster move puts a little blaster model on the Mii's hip so when he shoots he grabs the blaster, haha!

I would like to see a Mii Falcon punch captain falcon.

Miis as fighters is stupid. A better idea would be the ability to pose your Mii for a trophy, and when someone beats you they get that trophy.

If Sakurai does include a character maker, this is also how I would see it working. No reason for him to reinvent the wheel when people have already created their own Mii's. They just have to assign moves. It could even be as simple as applying the moveset of an existing character onto your Mii that way the game stays balanced.

Exactly, I mean think about it:

You need to download the stage that Nintendo sends you, playing it while streaming in from a website would not work, ITS IN YOUR HARDRIVE/SD CARD NOW, its not like the level is going to erase itself from your storage device after 24 hours :lol

Also, I was a big denier of this feature, so off to eat my words I go...

that wouldn't be much of a character maker, however.

"Every day, a stage selected from the entire daily collection will be sent from Nintendo to your Wii. A stage made by someone else will come to you over the Internet once per day!"

Okay i was sold before but wow that is amazing!
