I have accepted this with gratitude. I would like to accept an update with even more gratitude however! Hence I predict a tomorrow megaton.

Man if this is all it takes for a bunch of you to turn all whiny and emo I wonder how you will react when tomorrow's update sets the date back to August...

At least that announcement will be megaton.

Yes, junior. As you say.

I wouldn't be surprised if he didn't announce another character from now until the release of the game. It makes absolutely no sense to show all of the secrets before the game is released. One would have to guess that he's not going to show everything from the get-go. I want at least a couple of surprises.

There was an interview with the NOA translator guys about the Dojo site a while back, talking about how they get the daily updates way in advance, something like four to six weeks before we see them. judging from the way the updates went from amazing to so-so in the last month, i assume the game was delayed at the last minute, well after they had already come up with a lot of the really good updates.

since the lead time for the site i so large, it took a while for us to see the results in the daily updates. they had to spread what was left of the megaton updates really far apart to fill in the extra months. from here on out, we should probably expect most of these updates to be pretty blah with the occasional awesome one thrown in.

Tomorrow's update will be Hector. He'll be the alternate version of Sandbag.

MEGATON!

It's only been two days. I think we should hold off a while on the Decembore title.
It deserves it though because it's a continuation off of Novembore. I don't mean to call it Decembore only because it's December, but also because November was pretty boring and it's carrying on to December.

yeah this is really starting to piss me off. I was thinking that they delayed the game to put in more content. Thus we would see this new content in the updates. But its obvious there is no new content and Sakrai is now having to streeeetch these daily updates because he's obviously running out of good ones.
People like you make me ashamed to play Smash Bros.

FUCK THAT SAKRAI BITCH, HE JUST DELAYED THE GAME TO SHOW US POEKMAN AND MAKE FUN OF TOURNAMENT PLAYERS

IM CANCELING MY PREORDER

Well, I'm just thinking that Smash bros. was indeed delayed for marketing reasons instead of content reasons ( just like Twilight Princess ) And these delays are the ones that really piss me off. Nintendo obviously didn't want it to compete with Galaxy over the holidays. Oh well, I mean its not a year delay, but still a delay that shouldn't keep us from playing the game right now.

I haven't really hated on the updates as much as some of you (maybe because collecting statistics gives me a bit of emotional distance), but I do find it odd that unlike with Items from Previous Installments, he didn't even give a description of these Pokemon...

Anyways, it's probably been brought up on page 390249230937343, but as anyone considered the possibility that he's basically shown us everything major he's willing to show before the game is released?
It's quite possible, but the reason a good number of people are still holding out is that October was so, so full of win. He really loaded up that month with the greatness of 3.5 months combined, but the question is why he would do that if he knew there'd be nothing major afterward... Even though the delay is brought up all the time, there would have still been November before the original North American release date.

Oh dont forget special moves...Sakurai has been only giving us three just so he can surprise us with the final move - on a Friday
Characters without a special moves update: Kirby, Pikachu, Samus, Zelda, Bowser, Donkey Kong, Yoshi, Peach, Ice Climbers

Eh, had to happen eventually.

I don't think any other company has gotten so much life out of a single set of models like Nintendo has with the classic Pokemon. They could at least bother to properly texture them in this day and age.

Heh. Even if this really was their thinking (I don't think it was, personally), little did they know that Galaxy would do amazingly enough in the USA that it wouldn't have mattered, while Galaxy would do solid-but-not-spectacular enough in Japan that it... also wouldn't have mattered. :D

Edit:

Man, Sakurai really likes to extend his foreplay. I'm sure once we get to the next REAL megaton we will finally reach that blissful state of mind where we feel above a game like this and games in general. Gamers everywhere will be soaking in their juices with a stupid grins on their face and never touch a controller again. Is Sakurai becoming both the messiah and the anti-christ of videogames?

Tomorrow's update:

Notice: I'm playing Brawl right now!

You may be wondering why the updates have been rather lackluster lately. Well, the truth is, I've been to busy playing the game to care about the updates.

Doesn't this look fun?

The game's finished, but we're not going to ship it yet. Sorry! I know you'd like to be playing it now.

We're even playing online with our friends in America!

I've gotten really good with - oh wait, I haven't revealed that character yet. Well, maybe I'll meet you online some time!

You know, if the screen wasn't blurred out, you'd be able to make out the complete character selection screen!

I don't think I could call it one of the "greatest" updates ever, but certainly one of the most brilliant since the beginning of the Dojo. And the thread response would be an insta-classic.

It's funny how I tend to live the reaction of the update twice. The first is when it's just been uploaded and the second is when the people who gave up on staying awake check the next day and comment/complain.

I'm just glad that they showed all the returning pokemon at one time. They could have easily showed each returning pokemon one at a time as a single updated for that day. This forces them to scramble for more information just to show off.
Next update would probably be how the set your audio output to either mono of stereo.:lol

Except she doesn't get naked and float in a white energy ball in her Final Smash.

Yeah... she floats inside a white bubble of energy in her skin-tight blue body suit, in exactly the same pose as she did during the Crystal Flash in Super Metroid.

I'm sure it's not supposed to be the Crystal Flash move.

Cough.

To me it looks different from the SM version of the Crystal Flash, which has her floating (in the fetal position) inside a perfectly round, pulsating energy ball.

Check out the video here, ZSS Final Smash is at 39 seconds:

I can't see her floating inside the energy ball--maybe it's just the bad video quality?

Hey guys, the bright side is we HAD to get another pokemon update out of the way at some point or another... I mean, if you've been following Jiggy's stats, we knew it was the least recent type of update before tonight.

AND tonight was a tuesday update. Most Tuesday updates have been notoriously boring since the beginning. (It's Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays that usually get good updates). It was pretty obvious that we were going to get something along the lines of a pokemanz update tonight...

Again, as I said, at least now it's out of the way. :)

ALSO: Expect the quality of the updates to ramp up the more time goes by. It makes perfect sense that last month and (so far) this month have had tame updates... the game doesn't need to build up hype right now (two months before release)... it needs to build it up in the month before release.

Trust me, we are going to have our megatonz soon.

People that badmouth tuesday are also a pet peeve of mine. Sure, only one so-called Megaton, but boy howdy, what a megaton it was. That shut up a ton of complainers right there, and that is my favorite type of update.

i haven't been keeping up with the thread as much lately (for obvious reasons) so apologies if this has been covered already, but i'm guessing the past month of relatively weak updates is to help pad out the extra updates that were created by delaying the game.

it wouldn't surprise me if there was a rough plan for releasing big info based off the original december release dates. now that the game has been delayed by roughly 6 to 8 weeks, other updates to the site needed to be filled. it's like we're going through the smash dojo equivalent of anime fillers now...bring on the main arc again sakurai! :D

Pretty much. Also, you reminded me of something that I just edited back into the stats: we can now say that 4 of the 7 Poke Ball updates so far showed up on a Tuesday. That's over 57%. >_> It was destiny.

I agree, The Musicians was pretty mindblowing.

I think I must be spoiled by Mario Galaxy, because those Smash shots do not look nearly as impressive as they did a few weeks ago. I suppose I'll just have to forget about Mario when I'm playing, uh, every other Wii game.

The stuff thats being brought back from Melee doesn't look like the Brawl standard :\ Less polygons.

It's not just that, though. The lighting in Galaxy is leagues beyond what I'm seeing in Smash, and that's for a very fully 3D game. Smash should be able to look significantly better. Oh well, I won't notice while I'm playing anyway.

i am so angry they arent pushing the highest graphics the system can possibly push on aspects of the game that i will only see for a maximum of 10 seconds i am so angry im calling gamestop to cancel my preorder, calling 1-800-255-3700 and demanding to speak to reggie, and selling my wii on craigslist for an nsa fwb

Yes, thank you, that's exactly what I said, good job.

I really think I am just gonna stop checking this thread and going straight to the site.

I just came to the realization that there is no point in coming here. The whining just gets annoying.

I've been doing that for a few weeks now. Got the site on Live Bookmark (Firefox).
