Smash Bros Brawl Dojo Official Update Thread: Goodbye, Cherry-don

I actually like that list a lot, I wouldn't complain at all if that's what the roster looks like.

Well, I could bitch about Simon Belmont and Viewtiful Joe not making it in but that would be pushing it.

Anyways, I'm going to go ahead and predict a stage for tonight. Possibly of the Mario Karting variety, but any type will do.

I wonder if any characters will be on the back of the box, Pokemon-style.

Well, Melee's box didn't have any characters on the back of the box, but the front cover did feature the entire starting lineup, albeit with the greatest prominence given to the most marketable characters.

I'd actually be somewhat disappointed if Brawl's cover didn't feature every starter.

This is pixel #531!

[Large arrow pointing to a tiny spot]

This pixel doesn't see much action in the Brawls, it's a little too far off to the side.

[Shot of all the screen darkened but one pixel on the top right border]

Still, I like this pixel a lot. I often have it displaying red colors!

[Tinted pixel megaton]

Come back tomorrow. Who knows what insignificant detail I'll talk about next!

The game comes with a PIN number

Enter this code online at Mynintendo.com

What does entering this code do?

Japanese gamers can trade in for club nintendo goods. like a DS game or cool exclusive Wii accessories.

NA gamers can unlock mynintendo website content!

Its our way of saying we are sorry that the game is coming to Japan 3 weeks before NA gets it.

TreIII: I'd edit my post if I were you.

What for? No spoilers, or whatever. And I didn't intend for the fact that I was going to import the game to be taken as a thing to "rub it in". I could understand if I was parading about like "OH YEAH! BE THE FIRST ONE ON THE EAST COAST TO ROCK THIS GAME!" :lol

I mean, hell, I'm getting a JP Wii as my Christmas present from play-asia (which, funny enough, was certainly easier to obtain for me than a domestic one). As long as I'm riding the JP Wii bandwagon, I might as well get the most out of it...

One of the characters you mentioned is bannable, that's why you should edit. (Hint: he's blue). Anyway I predict a Subspace update tonight.

That's not it. Remember sp0rsk...and his vow to ban anyone mentioning a certain character...then read your post again.

excellent. Thanks. I wonder what patterns he followed when releasing content on the melee dojo. Like, if he revealed any non-starting lineup characters before the game was actually released...

Looks like the first unlockable profile shown was Luigi on November 27th, which was after the Japanese release date.

Also, I'm inestimably happy that Jigglypuff was the Christmas present. :D :D :D I'd really love a repeat performance this time around, unless of course he's going to hold off the unlockables until after Brawl's release like before.

I was speaking in jest as well, no worries.

So, if none of the revealed characters are unlockable, is it unreasonable to assume that this game will have 40+ characters?

If we get Ness on the 19th (my birthday) then we can have Jigglypuff on Christmas? Deal? :D

maybe if we all predict a lousy update, these horrible few weeks of updates will come to an end.

I'm guessing the trophy machine is back.

This would be good.

This song is stuck in my head now, Jiggy. I can't decide if that's a good or a bad thing.
I've dragged in another one. Advance Adventure ~Faunsu e~ for Brawl! :D

Too bad it was never in an actual game, though--but that didn't stop an instrumental version of the first season Japanese opening from making it into Pokemon Pinball, so hey. >_>

What an amazingly cool song from an amazingly terrible show.

Ness will not be in this game. Face it.

In the words of the inestimable Lex Luthor: WRONG!

There are plenty of reasons to rag on the show (which can be summed up as "why didn't they just adapt the manga?") but the music isn't one of them.

Tonight's update: F-Zero stage.

Alright, I'm bored so I'm gonna make elaborate predictions tonight:

If it's a character, Ridley, because I just realized how awesome that would be.
A.Trophy: Tails. Or maybe a combo with various Sonic characters.
Stage: Green Hill Zone
Music: Some Sonic music or Kirby music, I love Kirby games' soundtrack.

If not I predict a new boss for the Subspace Emissary... and if not, I'll just give up on December already and wait for that magazine on the 15th.

Must have been before I really started messing around in this topic. Eh, if it becomes that much of an issue, I'll remove it. I didn't think it was on the same level of "antagonistic behavior" as yet another rick roll. :lol

Any way, I don't predict anything worthy beyond possibly another item update or whatever. The most I expect to see would be around December 15-17th. Which, if you know your video game trivia, would make a bit of sense...

Pretty much. The only reason I even occasionally watch is because it's loaded up with great orchestrated versions of the game music, and then the occasional awesome starting or ending theme with like five different instrumental variations.

I'd welcome an instrumental version of the winter version of Hikari's theme if it showed up. Or even the popup version. ...Or even the normal version, come to think of it. I love her theme.

Listening to some Metroid Metal, I realized how awesome it would be if some of Stemage's music was in the game. Of course, there's no chance of it happening, but it would be great fighting music. Particularly lower Norfair, Phendrana, and the Super Metroid opening theme.

Eh, I'm sure the Metroid covers in the game will be great anyway.

Some other music that I wouldn't mind being ripped straight from other games are the Brinstar remix in Echoes' multiplayer or the Brinstar remix in Metroid Prime Pinball.

Listen to Devestation's Doorway on OCRemix...that should be in

You know I'm glad that it's coming out on a sunday now instead of the monday it would have been had it been released on December 3rd. At least becucse it's a sunday I'll be able to get a hold of the game right away when it comes out rather then wait a week to my hands due to living in residence at school during the week.

Plus this being Canada we probally wouldn't have gotten the game until like Tuesday or Wensday anyhow if it had come out on a monday where as sunday games are always their on release date xd.

No prediction from me tonight. I'm scared that If I guess something lame it'll become true and if I guess something cool it won't so I'm going to not guess and hope for the best.

Would be SO awesome.

I'm sure Ganondorf will transform into some form of Ganon for his FS... he just has to. Probably his beast-Ganon form from TP
If he does transform into ganon, then it'll probably be TP ganon, but I'd love to see him trandform into lttp ganon instead.

Even though it would totally throw the balance of the game off, it would be sweet if Link/Zelda had some form of a silver arrow that would turn the transformed Ganon to stone for a short time :lol

OMG Basic Brawl! This is so much better than Chimchar, I'm pleasantly surprised!!

[edit] Okay actually there's quite a bit of interesting information in there about how online will work. Also, from one of the screenshots, it looks like 2 minute timed brawl will be the norm again.

Join a quick and simple brawl against someone, somewhere! If you’re not going to be playing with a friend, this is the mode you’ll tend to use.

This time, we’ll take a look at how it flows.

wi-fi04_071207a-l.jpg

The Wii console is trying to connect in earnest! And it succeeds!

wi-fi04_071207b-l.jpg

Here you choose With Anyone.

wi-fi04_071207c-l.jpg

You could also choose Team Battle,
but we’ll choose Basic Brawl here.

wi-fi04_071207d-l.jpg

You go straight to the character selection screen.

Huh? We’re already at character selection? That’s right. You don’t make any rooms.

At this point, you’re already requesting a match. If you connect to someone, you’ll see their status at the bottom of the screen.

Character selection is limited to 45 seconds. If time runs out, your character will be chosen for you at random, so make your choices quickly so as not to make others wait.

wi-fi04_071207e-l.jpg

Then you go to stage selection.

You can cast one vote for the stage you want to play. A stage is chosen by lottery from among those voted on by the players.

Also, the items that are turned off in the item switch are also determined by lottery.

wi-fi04_071207f-l.jpg

Practise on Sandbag while you wait...

Then just wait until you get everyone together.

wi-fi04_071207g-l.jpg

Then the match begins!!

Isn’t that simple? You don’t have to bother with any settings. You just choose characters and stages.

Names won’t be shown and messages won’t be sent. Neither your identity nor your opponents’ will be known, so you can play without any worries.

By the way, have you ever had an experience where your opponent was disconnected and the match never came to fruition? Like when you started with four players, but ended up with only one?

I don’t like that feeling, so I’ve tried to counter it.

If you get cut off, your character will get taken over by the CPU without your opponents even knowing – it pinch hits for you!

wi-fi04_071207h-l.jpg

Hold on! You can’t tell it’s a CPU!

That’s epic! Can we really do this? Wouldn’t you say it’s way better than having all your opponents drop out?

However, we won’t be swapping in CPU characters when you’re playing With Friends. Sorry about that.

And there is one more important thing...

When you have a battle mode that runs online like Basic Brawl, the problem of what to do with hidden characters arises. If one of your opponents chooses a character you haven’t unlocked yet, it will be spoiled for you immediately.

But even without this mode, given the proliferation of the Internet these days, the existence of hidden characters is going to get exposed anyway.

So, this time I’m moving in the direction of not being too hung up on hidden characters.

You can earn most characters by playing through Adventure Mode: The Subspace Emissary. For those of you who look forward to those encounters, I recommend you clear this mode before playing Basic Brawl.

And as the case has always been, I’ve made it so you can play the characters you unlock in battles.
