Fair point, but she looks closer to the NDC citizens then Super Baby Mario over there
Only thing I would pop for bigger than Pauline's re-debut here, which was/is great AF, is if Wart was the main villain again in a core Mario game, or better yet, if we ever seen a direct sequel to Mario 2 USA.
Seriously, I want Super Mario Bros. 2 USA: part 2 (or whatever the hell it would be called). Easily my most wanted sequel I want, and yet, never will probably happen.
True, the average Italian height is 3'5".![]()

...honestly I don't think that his size is too unrealistic regarding the fact that he is stereotypical Italian guy.
What if Donkey Kong was named after New Donk City?
Gonna be disappointing when she turns out to be the final boss all along.

The big plot twist of the game will be when Mario and Pauline realise they still have feelings for eachother and Peach realises she has feelings for Bowser.
Oh god she wants the Peach/Bowser marriage to happen so she can get back together with Mario. Honestly hope they don't go with crazy ex angle for her lol.
Well, it would dman make sense. Pauline's Song in the trailer is nothing less than an adimiration and pleasing act dedicated for Mario. She wants to be his 1-Up-Girl! And to be quite comparative here, what has peach ever done else for mario beside writing letters to invite for cake and coffee like a grandma.
Chose wisely Mario!

Luigi x Peach is a thing that's more likely the issue here. If Game Theory is to be believed, Rosalina's their kid from the future even.
Edit: Well the Mushroom Kingdom had a king, but we rarely if ever see him. We can safely assume Peach usurped him and assumed power.
Hime (姫is the Japanese word for "princess", or more literally "demoiselle", i.e. a (usually young) lady of higher birth. Daughters of a monarch are actually referred to by other terms, e.g. Ōjo (王女
, literally king's daughter, even though Hime can be used to address Ōjo.
Too bad.
I liked the "Captain Syrup = Pauline" theory.

From helpless, sexualized damsel in distress to famous singer/Mayor of New Donk City. There's something genuinely endearing about how she turned her life around after being effectively replaced by Princess Peach in the main series. Plus, she even talks about how she fixed up the city after a unspecified massive disaster (talk about lore, lmao).
I wonder how Donkey Kong will factor into this. The city is named after him as well...
I mean she was still a distressed damsel recently in most Mario vs. DK games.

Pauline was sexualized huh? Must've missed that.
No, that would make too much sense. We already know he's named after a stubborn mule + King Kong.

Can't wait to have Pauline in Mario Kart 9!

I said it once and i'll say it again: Donkey Kong will be the final villain of the game and you'll have to climb a tower in New Donk City to stop him.
So like, quick question;
Does living in New Donk City cause some kind of metamorphosis towards human proportions? Considering the fact that Pauline kind of looks like a halfway point between Mario and one of the NDC citizens.
I had never even considered this, and must now find a way to fit it into my head-canon.
Pauline still has her normal look in Odyssey.

That....works way too well.Too bad.

Super Mario Odyssey |OT| Expanding Donk lore to Feature Length proportions
The Game Theorist channel actually had a very plausible explanation for this.
If you pay attention to the Donkey Kong Country series the first game was about Donkey Kong recovering his special stash of bananas. In that game every villain were giants. In the subsequent games the goals were about something else and Donkey Kong never had to deal with giant living enemies like the first game ever again.
In New Donk City the Kongs have set up restaurants.
Their theory is that the special bananas is what gives the Kongs their size, which is why their enemies in the first game became giants. So if the Kongs are using their special bananas as ingredients they've been influencing the biology of everyone who lives in New Donk.
This is the exact ending im thinking of. Its the ending, or the secret final level after you collect all the moons.
Ok this art is freking fantastic
Can't wait to have Pauline in Mario Kart 9!
Nice to see she's been updated to be less chest and ass with a slim waist.
I was thinking this too, but we have that Peach and Bowser plot.
I see Bowser being the Last boss. Unless you become Bowser and use him to defeat DK
Ir's Mario does it really need or want such a thread? A large proportion of Mario art is fucking weird anyway. So when is the "Mario Odyssey seems to be developing quite the fan art following already" thread going to go up?

Good point. We might get that story now that Koizumi is out from under Miyamoto's thumb.
Or it could be a song Peach composed and she'll sing a different version over the credits. But the DK arcade theme being sampled doesn't fit with that.
I'm not exactly thrilled with her constituents looking like uncanny valley Sonic 06 rejects pretending to be Mad Men extras, but...
...I absolutely LOVE the fact that they're using Pauline in a mainline AAA Super Mario platformer, and I also adore the fact that they've put her in a position of authority.
I honestly hope this starts a new trend within the series; I want EPD Tokyo to pull in all sorts of characters from the wider Mario universe and find interesting roles for them to play.
Like I'd love to see a mainline game where Wario and maybe even Waluigi are the big, premiere villains stirring up trouble somewhere on the Mushroom Kingdom's planet (rather than Bowser for the fifteen millionth time, give the big guy a break already!).
Hell if I can get a bit wacky for a sec, I'd LOVE to see a mainline platformer where Mario and Luigi team up with Daisy to fight back an invasion of Sarasaland by the X-Nauts from Paper Mario:TTYD.
And tbh, even something as simple and goofy as racing against Mona Pizza within a sandbox Mario mission would be dope af.
I mean...I don't want them obnoxiously cramming in a bunch of random characters for no good reason (*coughcoughfuckingsonicteamcoughcough*), but I feel like pulling from the wider Super Mario Bros. universe would do a lot to help keep the series fresh and surprising for a long time.
