So...games with ACTUALLY good endings

I liked Skyward Sword's ending.

implied that link and zelda got together, yay childhood friend romance trope finally wins!

Mass Effect 1 and 2, Spec Ops, Max Payne 2.

This thread made me remember how much I love Spec Ops, best game of the 7th gen, reconfirmed, for me.

Spec Ops: The Line
MGS3
Red Dead Redemption
The Walking Dead (S1)
Halo: Reach (The mission "Lone Wolf" was actual phenomenal in terms of capturing the tone of the game).

Witcher 3 is my favorite. My instinct led me to the good ending, so it made it that much better. I didn't know what choices effected it and there was a moment where I decided to change my approach. Deliberately vague to avoid spoilers.

Tlou was pretty top notch although I have a thing for bummer endings in general

P4g was fantastic it made you look back at the time spent in a meaningful and tangible way.

Mgs 3 and 4 each for their own reasons.

Silent hill 2 is kinda no duh to me.

I fully agree with bioshock infinite having a great ending while it kinda cheaps out by not being super obvious it is made better as a result. In conjunction the burial at sea ending was great with real feeling at the end on part 2 and really gave a sense of Elizabeth as a character kinda makes me wish they had done a full game with her and really broadened her growth as a character.

Weirdly, and I really didn't expect this, but Wolfenstein: The New Order had me legitimately tearing up during the final cutscene. It was a game that was alternately sappy, grim, and silly as shit, but the ending felt like such a perfect bow on both the characters and the plot that I was completely satisfied.

Indiana Jones and the Fate Of Atlantis:

To date still one of my favourite games.

Portal was the most unexpected for me. Some small little puzzle game turns into some crazy story events at the end. Plus the cake song credits blew my freaking mind.

Bioshock Infinite blew me away the most I think. The whole last few hours were incredible.

MGS3 is the most memorable and made me the most emotional by far. In fact I don't think any game has made me emotional besides it.

Shadow of The Colossus really stuck with me as well.

Some games I remember with really good ending are
Journey
Dark Souls had an impact one
Dragon's Dogma
Pokemon Black or White <- my favorite story from the series and the ending was one surprise after another
Xenoblade Chronicles
New Super Mario Brothers Wii

Those are the ones I remember off the top of my head that I remember fondly.

Baldur's Gate II. Throne of Bhaal as well, the character epilogue with Minsc gave me the feels.

KOTOR and Jade Empire.

Bioshock.

Deus Ex.

Halo CE

Probably more but those are what jump tp my mind immediately.

Planescape Torment

I remember just reflecting on the ending to Planescape:Torment after beating it. That shit was masterful, had me thinking about it for weeks. Easily the most well written game I've ever played, and that just elevates the overall package to the next level. Incredible game.

The Danganronpa games have horrible endings lol

1 is underwhelming, but 2's is great. Crazy bittersweet that really makes you question your own views on
forgiveness and atoning
. It's super well-done. Best in the series so far, though AE's is fine if not a bit of a lead-in as opposed to a real conclusion.

Journey
Hitman: Blood Money
Red Dead Redemption
Max Payne 2
Prince of Persia- The Sands of Time
The Witcher 3

Some of my favorites ever.

You thought it was well done? Yikes. On paper it would sound decent, but the execution was terrible.

Final Fantasy X if you stop at X.

I don't hate X-2 but it does kind of lessen the impact the ending of X had.

Also, Earthbound.

Also, all of Alpha Protocol's endings, complete with news reports that update what happened with a number of the key players, are awesome.

Wait what? I don't remember anything like that happening. The endings I remember are
Thorton driving a boat away, with the girl, and driving into the sunset. I can't say I have ever seen news report or updates on any of the characters.

MGS3's ending is so good that they could have never made Portable Ops, Peace Walker, or The Phantom Pain and you'd still completely understand why Big Boss became a villain.

It's complete.

Yep, when it ended, first thing came to mind was "So THAT'S why he went evil .. that totally makes sense" but that feeling has just became more ambiguous with each passing game.
