So I finally tried coffee

I dream of a future when coffee will replace blood and I can just pump a gallon or two of coffee right into my veins.
You need a coffee enema

Due to me being a poor schmuck, I just drink Folgers. I've tried Private Selection cinnamon pastry, and a few k-cups (Green Mountain IIRC), but I tend to stick with what I find cheaper.

Last weekend I had coffee (dark roast) at Panera Bread, and it wasn't half bad.

We have two pots constantly brewing at work, but it's Maxwell House. Since we supply their factory here in Houston with our machinery, we had a bunch of their coffee left over. It's horrible.

I love coffee but I always have to drink water with it. For some reason, I always get reallllllllllyyyyy dehydrated when drinking coffee and if I don't drink water, I start to get a headache.

But I LOVE COFFEE <3333

have you tried like attempting to crawl out of the rock you live under

my parents didn't have it in the house isn't really an excuse past 15

theres a whole world out there go explore it

I love it when I say I've never done a thing and everyone looks at me like I'm crazy. Like in the coffee shop. lol

Life is good.

wow you are like so super unorthodox in unexpected ways and also strangers that are vaguely in physical proximity clearly enjoy hearing you announce personal reflections to that effect with great frequency I am sure they completely admire your independent attitude and secretly want to be you but they can't get over how embarrassed they are to not be you already, because otherwise they would tell you. To your you you you face. YOU

OP, I really don't understand you nor understand this Water-Only way of life you speak of. II'm drinking coffee right now. If I wasn't, I would be drinking tea. Both are great. Taste great. And make me feel great.

The only people I know that don't like coffee are children who have yet to acquire a taste for it.

Do not worry Original Poster, I've never dronk more than 3 cups of coffee in my life, from various sips and dashes. It is highly unagreeable to the tongue despite the opposite being true for the nose.
Perhaps I must wait until I become older, I haven't had any this decade. Tea sounds better.

It's okay. I have a friend who refuses to try anything new. He's been eating and drinking the same 2-3 items for the past 20 years.

Actually, it's not okay. That's infuriating.

wot

What compelled you to try a beverage you never had before instead of drinking something you might like? Furthermore, why the heck did you continue to nurse it for 2 hours and force yourelf to drink it despite not liking it?

Was it to impress this date? Just be yourself man.

I can't function without 4 cups of coffee (damn it they taste good too). OP, try black coffee with honey. No creamer or any of that diluent.

I've always secretly thought people were lying when they say they like coffee or beer. Both taste horrible to me, and I've tried many varieties of both. I can't tell the difference between "good" beer and cheap swill. It all just tastes like the same bitter mess.

Gave up Coffee about 6 months ago. Coffee on its own taste very bland and terrible, so I would always dress it up with a bunch of sugar/cream/spice just to make it tolerable. Now I just drink natural Green Tea, and it has just enough caffeine to wake my ass up in the AM for work and such..

I post all the time about how I only drink water. I went on a date today (it didn't go well) on which I tried coffee for the first time. It started off terrible, but was eventually tolerable by the time I was finished with it. It took me about two hours to drink one cup of it. I didn't really enjoy it, didn't feel any of the effects of the caffeine, and probably won't do it again anytime soon. People say it's an acquired taste but I really can't find any redeeming qualities. I put creamer and lots of sugar in it but it didn't really help.

goodbye coffee
Acquired more than one drink

Obviously your taste buds are not functioning correctly.

It's going to be an acquired taste for some. For me, it was an early obsession because it was a very important drink in my family. People not only drank it in the mornings, but after meals to socialize.

It's a lot like beer. How many people drink beer and love the taste after one bottle? Well there ya go. But coffee, like beer, has its benefits when you leverage it to your advantage. Rather you need to sharpen your mind or unwind.

If you don't have a reason to care to explore it further then more for the rest of us! Coffee prices are exploding, so every person who is off the bandwagon is probably for the best.

RE: Flat white talk, the version at Starbucks is way overpriced. Pretty sure it's because they use their better quality espresso in it though. Most Starbucks now have a signature and single origin (higher grade, in their case), you can request a drink be made with either.

I wake up for work at 4 a.m. and drink my coffee on the near one hour drive to work. And on most mornings when I take that first sip of coffee, I say out loud, "Coffee, I love you. Is there anything you can't do?" I kid you not.

Obviously your taste buds are not functioning correctly.

Probably so. I have always thought I might have some problem with my taste buds. Totally honest, I would not be able to tell the difference between beers that are supposedly very different in a blind taste test. I never buy beer for myself but if I'm at a party I always try to grab a new variety to see if it unlocks the secret of beer for me. No go. Corona and Yeungling taste the exact same. I'm convinced of it.

Same goes for coffee. I have tried the cheap stuff and really expensive coffee prepared all different ways and it all tastes bad to me. People talk about certain coffee having "hints of chocolate" or whatever, but I don't get any of that.

Oh, also wine. HATE wine.

You know I make these threads just for the giggles right

I can't get through your post without exploding into a fit of laughter.

You're right, and it was a mistake. She was already judging me from the first moment :(

Dan Ryckert's GAF account has been confirmed.

I have a feeling he and I would be the greatest of friends. Our tastes in food are incredibly similar, his excessive drinking aside.

If it took OP two hours to drink a cup of coffee he was probably drinking cold coffee. Everyone can agree that cold coffee is the worst (iced coffee is different).

Is this a "I tried alcohol for the first time" parody thread?

They're both related... bitter taste that's an acquired taste/"mature palette". Probably won't find many people who like straight black coffee and hate beer (and vice-versa).

I love it when I say I've never done a thing and everyone looks at me like I'm crazy. Like in the coffee shop. lol

Bah, whatever. I mean, like what you like. I'm not a big tea fan myself, but shitloads of the world drinks it. The only thing I can suggest for you to is to maybe try different roasts and coffee final forms, see if there's one you like more than others.

Light roasts are more acidic, while darker roasts are more full bodied in flavor (also riskier to get something that tastes like fuckin charcoal, but some folks like that). Personally I generally stick with lattes these days, and do mine at home in a french press. Currently I'm drinking a caramel macchiato from Starbucks because I don't mind the sweet kick in the morning, but I've found their new flat whites to be really nice.

Of course coffee purists will shit a brick about the 'bucks version of flat whites, but it's the first plain latte variation that actually tasted different in a good way to me.

Anyways, you've got a world of coffee implementations out there to try before panning it all, no harm in exploring your options. If you go with brewed stuff, try sticking with medium or light roasts and only adding cream. Sugar will tends to muck up the flavor a lot, but cream will kind of blow it out more with a bit more richness.

I like straight black coffee.
I've never even tried any alcohol, and have no desire to ever do so.

I absolutely loved my first glass of wine, wasn't too fond of beer, but being a poor college student makes you warm to it soon enough. Coffee was a bit more of a struggle. Had my first coffee when I was eight thereabouts with cream and sugar and hated it. But there was something intriguing about people loving something so revolting so I kept at it. Now I drink it black, preferably so strong you have to cut it with a knife. If I don't drink six cups a morning I get a terrible headache. Start with Lattes, end with Italian espresso.

Come over to our side OP it's g-g-g-g-great. *teeth gnashing*

I've been drinking coffee consistently since I was 14. I had my first sugar/milk laden cups when I was six -- now I despise adding sugar but I do like a small bit of milk. I'm not sure if it was ever an acquired taste for me, though I did greatly prefer it sweeter in my youth and stronger later on.

EDIT: I'm also that weirdo that drinks coffee after it's gone cold. In fact, I'm drinking some right now.

Guys, please stop trying to get people who aren't into coffee, into coffee. Prices are getting crazy and we're going to face shortages and then I might have to kill people. I don't want to kill people.

Trying one coffee from one place is like playing farmville on Facebook and declaring that you hate videogames. You need to try more varieties from different roasters.

Even within a single roasting company you will find a wide variety of flavors. Don't give up!

It really depends on what kind of coffee you tried, who made it, how was it made, etc.

I hated it for a long time, but then I had a brew that was smooth and flavorful, and it all changed.

Then again, I only use a bit of milk occasionally, and never sugar, so I mostly drink it black, which is apparently disgusting to most, so maybe my taste buds just broke.

Anyone know where to get really cheap k-cups online or in person in New York? I need to start putting my one-cup machine to use again, but I'm sick of the generic blends I've had.

"Acquired taste" my ass. I drink coffee almost every day but on no planet would I delude myself into thinking it actually tastes good. Except for vanilla lattes, those are delicious if you go to the right coffee shop. But yeah coffee is so bad I gave up trying to fix it with sugar and cream and I just drink it black, figure it'll taste bad either way.

Its like Alcohol. I don't pretend to like most alcohol I drink, everything tastes bad except for mixed drinks. I drink it because I want the warm fuzzy feeling and because it helps me open up, not because it tastes good; same thing for coffee, I drink it because it helps wake me up and gives me a routine, not because it tastes good.

And both are great drinks for when you want to go on a date. I'm not entirely sure why (at least for coffee anyway, alcohol is for obvious reasons), but it's a thing, and if you don't do either it makes dating just little bit harder.

Liking one coffee only from an obscure hipster ~authentic coffee company using brown paper and fake hand printing is like liking Papers Please only and declaring that you love videogames.

(I love Papers Please)

I'm surprised an instagram filter wasn't added to this picture.
