Do you feel this party is racist?

The poster, who is Mexican, is ignorant as fuck about whether this party is racist towards him/her.

Ok.

There are brown people who hate associating with other brown people. They are brown people who are totally okay with white people mocking them.

This shit happens.

Ignorant as fuck?

Excuse me, the subject of this party is my culture. I'm a mexican living in México. So I'm in a pretty good position to say whether I find this party racist or not.

Or am I supposed to be a whiny person like you? Is that the correct perpsective? To bitch?
You are living in Mexico.

No in the US. Thats a huge fucking difference.

You realize you're being extremely offensive right now, yeah? More so than this harmless party could ever be.

How do you know the guy is brown? Because he is mexican? Thats definitely racist lol.

I am brown. I am talking about my experiences

The described party isn't making fun of their race or "brown people", though. It's having a good time with a nation's culture. There is a huge difference.

I will bet you my life that if this party was thrown in the US, then this party was based on Mexicans-Americans not actual Mexicans. Sorry but you don't know what it's like to be a Mexican (or of Mexican descent) living in the US. I've seen the way some people treat paisanos. I've heard some shit.

Some people act like mexicans are a minority in Mexico.

Honestly chicanos annoy me way more than whatever white people do, white people dont call themselves mexican, but chicanos do and they have such a weird attachment to Mexico, like sometimes they dont even speak spanish and are so proud of being mexican, ughhh.

Not relevant but i just wanted to get it out of my chest, i hate when chicanos speak for the beautiful people of mexico.

Yeah it's super weird to have an attachment to your ancestors. Oh they don't speak the language of their colonizers? Well they should, I mean it's a requirement to speak the language in order to feel any real attachment to a culture. Fuck a chimichanga

How so?

So, being in a more constant contact with my own culture somehow makes my opinion irrelevenat/less relevant than yours? Are you crazy?

I live in the absolute heart of the mexican culture. I eat, drink, and breathe mexican culture every day.

That alone gives me plenty of reasons to state my opinion in this thread.

Deal with it.

Why does so much of GAF feel the need to blow every little thing out of proportion? Just relax once and a while. Not everything is malicious.

From what I gather Chicanos are their own thing, and I have known some that look down on Spanish music (but love Tejano).

I was born in Mexico but now live in the US and I agree completely with Ishida, am I Mexican enough for you guys? Or I guess not enough since Ishida is TOO Mexican, apparently.

Fucking rekt

He has Mexican friends xddd
Go be offended by something else.

bro i have been attacked and insulted for people thinking i am Mexican.

But are you mexican?

i am not, but I never said I was either

'Plz' is about the only response you deserve to thinking you can just dismiss the opinion of a Mexican poster in this thread because it doesn't suit you. I mean you must be fucking joking.

there have been other mexican posters who have had an issue with this. how come you don't take their view points into consideration?

RL me right now

You can't be too Mexican or too little Mexican, we need to create an scale/formula so we know who's opinion is valid.

Go be offended by something else.

You're pretty ridiculous bruh.

If he's offended then you can't tell him it's invalid and to "go be offended by something else".

I suppose in the same way that I can't tell you that you should be offended.

I feel a certain way because I grew up seeing and hearing hatred towards my ethnicity. Maybe you didn't have the same experiences as me. Maybe you did. Either way, we feel different about it and I guess that's that.

Chicanos have an obsession, they base a lot of their identity on what is "mexican" which sometimes is also a caricature and thats what annoys me the most, hearing hispanic radio, going into latino business feels like hell on earth. And yes who knows what truly being mexican means, but speaking spanish is definitely on it.

Pathetic what-aboutery.

But to answer your question I'm certainly not going to tell them they shouldn't be offended. I'm not going to label them ignorant as fuck or that their opinion is invalid.

Nothing ridiculous. He stated that the other poster was an ignorant and then Isha said he was Mexican. And the OP response was "I have Mexican friends".

That's why I said what I said.

Yeah, idk. It depends on the people that are at the party?

I'm Mexican American and live in California so it's not unusual to see a bunch of white people dressed up in the typical poncho sombrero mustache costume on cinco de mayo. I find it offensive to be treated like a caricature and laughed at, but I guess some people are okay with it.

That wasn't my only response. I have been a victim of out-right racism, casual racism, and systemic racism. I know how these things are used to stereotype and mock a race.

Isha says he lives in Mexico so there is a good chance he hasn't experienced the things that many people of color do in the States and other "western" countries.

Me too, from the blackest black to the whitest white. When I go on TV and I see Kenan imitating the big papi talking like a Dominican (and the accent) I don't go and say "goddamn this is racist".

But if you think it's offensive, go ahead.

I've been called spic, wetback, beaner etc. these people dressing up just look lame as hell.

This was younger me though, as an adult never had issues people think I am European.

Hold up...there are Mexicans in this thread that say it is not offensive, but silly and funny. Then someone responds with, "you don't get it." Uhhh.....then later mentions they have Mexican friends. GAF....yo lol.

there are also mexicans in the thread who have been saying that it is offensive. but yeah ignore that.

Dressing up with sombreros and ponchos ain't racist IMO (but it's all about context. They could be chanting Trump bullshit about building a wall for all I know). When a white American asks me if we have electricity or if we all ride donkeys, that's racist as fuck... as Trump chants would be as well

This is pretty much my opinion of it, but I guess I'm one of those weird as fuck first gen Mexicans in the US. Heck I'll wear sombreros and mustaches with my white friends lolol. Free tequila?! Yes plz!
