So it's cool to release your game unfinished now, huh

Out of everything I an surprised that halo shipped the way it did. It is Microsoft's most treasured IP and it shouldn't have went out like that. Inexcusable.

You know I'll be honest I am too. Say what you want about Halo 4 it was pretty damn bug free. Even H1A was not near this buggy and broken. It shocks the hell out of me how bad the state of this game is in.

pretty sick of seeing threads about how people are complaining about games today
Eh, bad games (that should be good) deserve to be called out for doing this.

I have yet to pick up a PS4 or XBox One, but was planning to grab one (probably a PS4) this Christmas. I held off as I wanted to have at least 4 or 5 games that I can't get on PC on one of the consoles. Well, the games I want to play are now out, but now I'm continuing to hold off because most of them seem to have issues. Kind of a shitty first year, imo.

I assume what happened for some of these companies that last gen they had their pipelines all up and running and cranking things out with a high degree of efficiency, but now the transition to new hardware has screwed the regular schedule for a lot of these games up, but they were generally unwilling to delay the games more than a little bit because they didn't want to miss release windows since their forecasts were based on them. I don't think we've seen so many technical fuckups in such a short space of time from major game releases, but I may be wrong there.

Stop buying into hype. Stop pre-ordering. Stop buying day one. And most importantly, stop buying from a company that has a long history of releasing buggy and unoptimized games.

its hardcore gamers fault that this is the norm. my casual ass only buys 3-4 games a year and barely an DLC, and usually oick the games up months after the original relese date. but i see time and time again that hardcore gamers rush out day one and buy these half finished games, because "day zero right!?". publishers keep doing it cause harscore gamers keep buying them.

To be fair, Halo's launches in the past have all been pretty smooth and this is definitely an anomaly for the series. Which makes it worse, almost.

I understand things like this are incredibly frustrating for a lot of people, but is any of this really unexpected? It's the nature of the industry nowadays.

Perfect.

Attitudes like this-- with lowered expectation-- will serve to keep the light green for publishers to continue releasing unfinished games, with the hope that a launch-period patch will (probably) dot the I's and cross the T's.

It's why complaining about this issue does no good. Most consumers just accept "the nature of the industry".

Pretty soon, the youngest of gaming consumers won't even remember when games used to ship without the need for a launch-day patch. It'll be for dinosaurs like me to spin yarns about, where the kids will be "No way! That really happened?"

I'm sure you now I was mostly referring to AC:U but yeah...That sucks for Halo fans. Hell, if I had a One I'd probably be buying the MCC as well.
But anyone that bought AC:U on GAF totally deserves what they're getting right now.

One of my friends keeps telling me this is gonna happen and about a year ago I didn't believe him but I think I might now.
The indie scene gives us plenty to fallback on... It would not be 83 again.

Edit: and even if it was... Remember what came out of that: Amiga.

I get annoyed.

But if I have day one issues I just come back a few days later and see what's patched.

It's usually enough.

People think this is all "rush rush rush" but it's not really logical in the examples of games that get fixed up in the first week or few days; I somehow doubt in those examples "more dev time" would have changed much. It might have.. you just can't really predict that.

Sometimes it's just bugs that aren't found until you put the code out into the wild.

I think ACU was particularly effected by this mindset. Ubi's development pipeline was not compatible with new engine development.

It'll never happen to the same degree it happened in the 80s, but we may well see a decline similar to 2005-2008 era blockbuster cinema, with only a few big budget things out of the many released really generating big turnouts.

For sure, it just extra sucks for Halo fans who went into this thing expecting the same polish they've come to expect. AC:U... well, I like the series but there were so many alarm bells on this one I'm glad I held off.

It's days like these I'm glad to be more of a Nintendo fan :U because 99% of that shit is done and done right.

Exclusive Nintendo game. Enjoy.

Yeah I don't think it'll all fall apart but if every big game ends up like these I'm sure people will tire of it eventually.

this right here... im about fed up with every other dev.

Bioware, Obsidian, Rockstar, Blizz, Crystal Dynamics and a select few more AAA devs have my attention. And some, like Bioware, are on my shitlist still.

People who buy games on day 1 are the ones who allow big games to exist. Blame the developers/publishers, not the players.

This is probably the least tin foil explanation I've heard, and makes perfect sense. In short, many devs be bitin off way more than they can chew development wise this gen. Let's hope those pipelines get a lot more efficient, hopefully a lot sooner rather than later.

But AC4 was my 2013 GOTY (#10 on GAF's list)

How are we not allowed to by excite for a game, when the last installment was excellent?

Driveclub and what else?

OT: I mean many of us have bought games "early" from Steam. It might be interesting to have AAA devs give us "early" access to games to help them spruce up the game. Many people might be interested in that. The obvious issue of course is with selling us access to a game under the pretense that it's finished. That's terrible and I wish more people would hold them over the coals go over.

The only other one I can think of off the top of my head was Killzone Mercenary, which had GB sized patches at launch and in the weeks following for online play. That is the next gen console equivalent of more than 10, 15 GB.

Here's the thing though; we're led to believe everything is perfectly fine!
Between Battlefield 4 and MCC I watched numerous online multiplayer videos before the games released. Who the heck would've know they'd both be a mess at launch??

I'm especially shocked at Microsoft since they have their Azure and shit. You can't even trust a game is going to be ok, even after watching YouTube videos of everything working as normal. It's getting a bit ridiculous.

I sure as hell hope GTA V's single player campaign isn't fucked up in some way.

Found Bethesda on page 1. I am satisfied with this thread.

I'll give them a hard time, and I think rightfully so. But Skyrim and Fallout NV for the PS3 were still two of my favorite games I have ever played.

I'm hoping with these new consoles a lot of these issues won't see a return. Though lately I'm getting worried, because of threads like this one here.

Dat tearing and frame drops in a 2001 XBox game :D!

Not developed by Nintendo. Shitty troll attempt.

No. The troll attempt was the guy coming in saying Nintendo don't do this.
....coz they do.
Not many companies have to do recalls of their games because of a glitch, but Nintendo had to so with Super Paper Mario in Europe and let's not forget Skyward Swords crippling glitch.

Any game with an online component (that I would want to play) I don't buy on day 1 anymore. I'll wait and see if there are any issues. If not, then I'll get it a day or two later.

The thing that sucks is even stuff like The Evil Within is getting pre-release patches with no form of online connectivity whatsoever.

Nothing is safe.
