So Sony underwhelmington, Nintendo underwhelmington, but MS delivers?

I'm so used to MS fucking up every aspect of their PR, and I was totally expecting to be blown away by actual PS3 game-play demo's and Hub tech. Instead, I was bored and unimpressed with the multiple target/realtime/trailer reels [though even downgraded, heavenly sword looks the coolest of the bunch] and though it was amusing as fuck that they're jacking the Wii controller with the DS3 [and jacking us with the dual sku/price point] I don't know, I was totally underwhelmed. The MS conference on the other hand moved quick with gamely up front [gow looking incredible!] and exciting announcements [gta content, new live arcade games, expansion of live etc] and showed me everything I wanted to see. That plus the Halo 3 trailer and everything available NOW on live just totally satisfies me. I can't wait to play the Lost Planet demo tonight, and download the Digital Domain animated gow HD shorts. I know I sound overly negative towards the PS3, but I was just expecting my face to be blown off, and expecting to want to buy one, and neither happened.

Ok i watched the 3 conferences

Nintendo > Sony > Microsoft

Nintendo : play it safe. Great demo of the wiimote. The game look underwhelming but we knew that since last year. They shouldn't make japaneses people speak english just get a translator, it really killed the show. After the press conference, everybody realised they only speaked and showed half what thy got on the showfloor

Sony : Boring start. Then they start showing games. Lots of great looking stuff with lots of potential. Kaz makes a fool of himself (RIIIIDGE RACER). MGS4. The DSMOTE. Until that point Sony has a great showing and then *BAM* the price. They killed all the hype in one fucking blow

Microsoft : Start strong with GOW. XBL ARCADE. Showing lots of games but no surprises (stuff we already saw). Specific preview of games (still no surprise Pinata, Double agent, ...). Then the Bomb GTA4 EXCLUSIVE ...... but NOT. Shadowrun look so much like crap they show a CGI intro instead. CRYSIS PC game (yeah cool but it has no impact on the X360). AND THEN BILL GATES TALKING DURING 15 MINUTES to explain a very simple concept VISTA & Mobile phone can go to LIVE. CONNECTIVITY PART 1231234. And then the HALO3 (nice but nothing really special at the end of the day)

Who the fuck cares. Nobody watches these things except you losers and the media. The people that actually make your systems winners won't care until they see promotional material at retailers and actually fucking content.

I thought Nintendo did what they wanted to do.

They want to create basically a console equivalent to the Nintendo DS and they've done so.

They wanted to create a controller that anyone can use ... and really looking at it, I think you can say yes, this is a controller that people who don't play games can sit down and use. The tennis, golf, symphony, Wario Ware, etc. demos really emphasized that.

Zelda is probably GOTY (lets be real) ... and that be a Wii launch title is pretty huge in terms of sales impact as well.

Now instead of floundering at the tail end of the GCN's life, Zelda: TP will get a full sales run on the Wii.

Sony's was weak for sure. Some of the stuff was impressive but overall they just failed to deliver. The price tag was just the final nail in the coffin.

Nintendo's conference delivered for me. I am very happy with how Zelda turned out, Red Steel is looking good, Fire Emblem Wii omfg, Super Mario Galaxy omfg, Yoshi's Island 2 omfg. The demonstration of Wii Sports was also great and entertaining. It's just the lack of information on some of the stuff, mainly Mario and WC that was a little disappointing. I expect all that to be rectified on the showfloor though.

Microsoft's was obviously good. Some very solid titles emerging and things are looking promising indeed. My highlight was GAF's overreactiont0n regarding GTAIV "exclusivity". :D

Now that all three conferences have come and gone I am most excited about what Nintendo has to offer on the showfloor in the next few days. Can't wait to see some more footage of the Wii / DS titles!

Only surprises from Sony's conference was how they blatantly ripped off Wiimote and Xbox Live. Oh and the 2 SKU and price tags.

I am watching the MS conference right now...lots of talk about connectivitiy between Vista and 360...borring!! They were all average

So much talk...so much CG...
Haha I thought Vista and Windows Mobile phones getting Xbox Live service and connectivity was one of the greatest things of the Microsoft press conference. The fact that you can buy any game off of Xbox Live arcade and play it on either your Xbox, computer, or PC without having to buy the game again is pretty fucking awesome. Not to mention the fact that you can now send invites and play people in online multiplayer between the PC and Xbox. This is great news, they've really pushed LIVE to a point that no online gaming service could possibly match by making a uniform experience across PC, Xbox, and cellphones.

The Xbox Live service is now built into Windows and people are acting like it's no big deal. Lets see Sony or Nintendo get their online software/service installed on everyone's PC.

Of course, I don't base my console purchase decisions on a the companies pre-E3 confrence. Never really watched these things untill last year. I must say though, aside from a few games, that the Sony conference was pretty boring all around. I didn't understand the whole GTHD thing...that went on a bit too long. Kaz just look and sound so damn awkward, it was difficult listening to him. They might as well let phil do all the talking. The games were fine, but price was a kick in the nuts

The Nintendo conference was ok. Zelda looked really good, so that has my attentiong. Red Steel didn't really looked that interesting to me and those guys looked a bit silly playing that tennis game, but other than that I wasn't pay much attention to everything else.

I havent seen the MS conference yet, but I did decided a while ago that X360 is going to be my main console this gen anyways.....

MGS4 + FF13 + 8 Days + Heavenly Sword + Virtua Fighter 5

If the price wasn't announced it would definately be the conference of E3. Not to mention this E3 prooved the power difference between PS3 and 360. Price killed everything Sony did good in E3.

Yep, but people can't look past the price beacuse they were planning to get one this fall for 299 or 399, but now will have to wait till fall 2007 or cough up the extra 100 to 200 dollars.

Different strokes for different folks. Sony did have some nice content though (FFXIII, Heavenly Sword, MGS4, Resistance, VF5, etc). The thing is, people were already asleep due to GTA4 HD by the time they showed it and then when people finally started to wake up they dropped the price bomb. The price announcement overshadowed the content that they showed, but the content was still there.

Well actually I think Nintendo and Microsoft both delivered. I didn't expect the microsoft presentation to be good actually, Nintendo and Sony had much more on stake, but they surprised us with the material they've shown. Nintendo did have more interesting news and a few surprises, but not just in the conference. They had this message, playing is believing, and they did a really good job imo.

Nintendo > Microsoft >>> Sony

I think the only important thing at e3 is not to alienate. The rest is all inside GAF fun. SONY totally alienated and seems...to actively hate gamers at the expense of helping their shitty divisions. So...the only thing I learned that wasn't just fun was that Microsoft/Nintendo have decent pulses but that I shouldn't give Sony my money (and really...they're all corps vying for our dollar at the end of the day, not all this emotional shit).

So now I have one less console to buy at launch. It's all good. I don't care what the rest of GAF does.

The ot really is slow today.

But there is no point in upgrading to Vista...its a fucking rip off! OMG DirectX 10 only on Vista!! What kind of BS is this MS? Xbox Live rocks no doubt but Vista is a ripoff...I don't see any upgrades to vista beside Direct X10. They could have added DX10 to XP and it would be as good as Vista.

Show me Xp an Live connectivity! Now that would be interesting...

I was happy with PS3 conference outside of the price (but I'll eat it). Lots of games, and more than a few that I hadn't seen. MGS4, FFXIII, Heavenly Sword, and a few others looked incredible. HDD included was good news. BR can't come soon enough (f watching dvds that look worse than broadcast tv).

MS conference was overall pretty boring... lots of games I've heard of before and don't particularly care about (GTA4 multiplatform is news, but I wouldn't say that makes me happy I own a 360 when I'll have all 3 consoles). GoW seems mediocre gameplay wise... and it's still fucking choppy, Halo 3 is exciting but expected and still far off (and I don't care for Halo all that much), Forza 2 could be cool (will probably pick it up, since GT5 is still far off). Certainly pretty solid though, but nothing that made me really happy.

Nintendo's conference was like one of those circus shows you see in Las vegas. Lots of fun, but short on the information. No Smash bros =( Mario and Zelda were expected and are welcomed, but I can't get myself excited for them much anymore for some reason (will probably buy them though). Good showing, and certainly entertaining.

Overall none of them really were that outstanding. Sony still has my dollar, as I don't see the games I care about anywhere else, MS and Nintendo seem to be doing the same stuff they did last gen.

My opinion

Sony: No Shenmue III => sucked
Microsoft: No Shenmue III => sucked
Nintendo: No Shenmue III => sucked

On the other hand: waching all the reactions was much fun, one of the best days in my gaming life

Same, but I want to actually watch the MS conference.

I was bored to tears with Sony's presentation last night - Heavenly Sword looked alright but wasn't going to sell the system on its own at launch. Genji looked okay but was nothing special, and the first Genji didn't do all that well critically so /shrug. MGS4 and FFXIII impressed but those were the only two bright spots in a dismal conference, and then the smug bastard proclaiming Sony's innovation... and then the price. Sony am lose E3.

Nintendo's graphics were a little underwhelming... compared to Sony's zzzzZZZZZfest of a conference, it was downright exciting / professional. Games, games, games, lots of games, hands-on demo of Zelda with the Wiimote and amazing gameplay footage. It was often cheesy, but cheesy is better than slimy and smarmy. And then after Reggie went off-stage they hit the press with an uber barrage of material we're still happily sifting through. Nintendo am zOMG back in the game.

Microsoft, I've only read the blogs. Gears of War, amazing as expected. Halo trailer, amazing as expected. Shadowrun looks good. Sounds like a solid showing, but I don't see where they rule the roost, perhaps they just had a more professional presentation, but with Peter Moore's antics seemingly indicating false GTA exclusivity, probably not.

Polari said:
The problem for me was how amateur Nintendo's conference came off as being. That Bill Trinen guy was useless, came off as an awkward teenager, Reggie was devoid of charisma, trying waaay too hard and Iwata gave Yamauchi a run for his money in the crazy stakes, and talked us through the virtual console. TALKED. Why didn't he show us? And if it wasn't ready, why not ditch it and instead demo Mario, or Super Paper Mario?

The only person who ever set the room alight was Miyamoto.

Nintendo also needs some serious lessons on design for their presentations. They spent all that money hiring the Kodak Theater, then did a pathetic job of laying it all out and had the slides looking like they were done in Powerpoint 95. They don't seem to realise that this isn't a shareholders' conference, this is their biggest media event of year. If you're not a winner, at least look like one.

That's the point: the Nintendo's Conference was ALL ABOUT THE GAMES AND FUN.
It was not about Reggie, or Iwata, or Harrison: they were marginal, because the CORE were Wii's Games and Nintendo DS's Games. That's why it was so incredible !!! Of course Miyamoto has been the Star: but he was all about fun and the Controller.

That's why Nintendo has won !

E3 drives the media which drives the masses. You know this already though. ;)

Sony - Utterly forgettable, and that price... fuck that

Nintendo - Did a great job. Zelda looks great, Mario looks fantastic. I'm not too thrilled with Red Steel (not my type of game really). Wii sports looks like a great party game (imagine playing that shit while drunk). Fire Emblem motherfuckers, nuff said. Actually Nintendo's best stuff is what they DIDN'T show. The stuff on their press site is mingbongly awesome. DS is going to be the system of the show again. It's amazing how the system just continues to kick ass

Microsoft - Only read their transcript, haven't watched the conference yet. But it looks to be a solid conference, a couple suprises but I wasn't as blown away by the Halo 3 trailer as some (it was a real time cutscene--which is not indictive of how the game will look when playing). Getting GTA4 is a good move for them, even if it's not exclusive atleast Sony doesn't have an time exclusive on it now. Bill Gates should never attend another E3 again.

I give all three 5/10

Sony: Final Fantasy XIII, Heavenly Swords, MGS4
Nintendo: Mario Universe, Zelda, Red Steel
MS: Gears of War, Lost Planet and Mass Effect

From that list it is easy to see that Nintendo and Sony kicked MS' butt.

If Nintendo is right, next E3 it won't just be us losers watching, Mr. and Ms. cultural chameleon will also be paying attention.

I saw someone actually playing GOW, some great XBL announcements, a ton of new trailers(too human, mass effect, splinter cell weren't even prominatly featured), a huge announcement of GTA on 360 at launch, promising sequels(fable, forza), a new ips in pinta and shadowrun, and then the announcement and trailer of one of the hugest games in NA.

I don't get the focus on "suprises", and I didn't see anything new at Sony's conference. Plus you can actually play lost planet right now which by all accounts is amazing.

As far as fufilling my expectations:

MS: A-
Nintendo: B+
Sony: D-

I'm really disappointed in Sony. I don't want to wait a price drop or two before picking up a PS3. I don't want a gimped tard model. How about some DETAILS on the PS3s online and media connectivity? Where's Jaffe's PSP game? Where are the PSP game announcements in general?!? Argh.

And again, nobody pays attention to the media except you all. The only thing that drives the masses is the G4 coverage, which is carefully sanitized as to avoid upsetting any potential advertisers (read: publishers and console manufacturers). Even then, it's just a fraction of the public. What drives sales is content, economics and retail presentation. This shit is irrelevant and serves as a just giant pissing contest for the hardcore, which the manufacturers do rely on as early adopters, but cannot not rely on to sustain sales.

The Nintendo conference was better than Microsoft.
The Halo 3 trailer was definetly nice but the rest of the show wasn't all that. Fiddling with Vista and that. GoW looked cool though, love the blood.

You're nuts.

Yeah, because the press conferences make all the difference in the console wars. Peter Moore is right. Winning E3 is overrated. If winning E3 mattered, Nintendo would be number one every year, overhyped games like Doom 3 would be the greatest game of all-time, as would Halo 2, etc.

Microsoft > Nintendo >>>>>>>>>>>>> Sony

Microsoft wowed me with gorgeous game footage and the announcement of GTA 4 with downloadable content. The synergy with Vista looks hot and bodes well for the Xbox platform in the future.

Nintendo had a solid show, and even got in a few jabs at Sony ("playing is believing," indeed). The wiimote seems fun - IF it works. They seemed to be having some trouble actually playing the tennis game up there. But the games looked all right and they seem focused on fun.

Sony... oh Sony. I expected them to melt my face off, and they did - with the motherfucking PRICE. Then they rattled me with a dumb video of urban thugs babbling incoherently about PS3, a 20-minute GT4 demo ("Let me show you a third track" - fuck you!), more CGI video, and realtime stuff that didn't live up to last year's CGI. I think they've nearly lost it - my support as a customer, that is.

Hats off, MS and Nintendo - you're both winners.

I don't know about you but the Nintendo conference was hilarious.

Sony's one was rather arrogant, but then again, they are #1. They can.

MS conference was so-so. Informative, yet unexciting. Solid but not spectacular.

All three had their boring moments.

OMG both Nintendo and Microsoft showed so many CG vids!! Why aren't you ragging on them as well? At least the gameplay stuff on PS3 was running at solid fram rates

damn too much sony hate here

I liked Microsoft conference.
Nintendo Wii seems a very good machine. On the other hand Nintendo Ds line-up didn't appeal for me (this line-up is a lot more weak than last year... only Final Fantasy 3 saves the day).
Sony... well... was a mixed bag. A lot of interesting games are coming for ps3 and I like the idea of the controller. But its price.......................... On the psp side... I expected this. this conference was only for PS3... But don't forget that PSP has a HUGE line-up for this E3with a lot of amazing titles: killzone (from what have I played... its IMPRESSIVE this game), tekken 5, new metal gear, ¿silent hill?, loco roco, socom 2, final fantasy 7 cc (at least we have seen images!!! AMAZING ones!! I expect to launch this game this fall on Japan) lumines 2, ultimate g&g, ace combat, gangs of london (this have has excelents previews so far) psone emultaor, gta announcment (you know its coming in the next few days...) etc. Nintendo keeped secret all of its Nds games... but sony preffered to show them before E3 in order to center its conference on PS3. Also third parties go big guns for psp with more than 100 games in development for the psp....
I would prefer Sony to keep some of this tittles secret in order to make a bigger impact on its conference.

Absolutely, E3 conferences don't matter for shit as far as winning anything, but the decisions announced at these conferences certainly matter. You don't think $500/$600 for a PS3 is going to be a major thorn in their side down the road? You don't think most people are gonna choose GTA4 on the $200 (or more) cheaper console? Sony ain't going anywhere despite many recent predictions of their demise, but if you don't think what happened at E3 doesn't have major ramifications, I don't know what to say. My casual gaming friends on another board are already talking about the insanity of a $600 PS3.

How many PC's do you think are going to ship in the next few years without Vista on them? Having the Live service integrated into all Vista PCs and Windows Mobile phones is a huge deal. Whether people choose to upgrade their OS or buy a new PC, most people are going to end up using Vista.

Will one of those PC's be mine? No. Do I give a fuck about Vista? No. Am I happy with my current pc and see a need to upgrade to Vista? No.

The fact is your casual gaming friends aren't very casual if they're following press conferences for videogame manufacturers, unless it's by proximity to you.

And, of course, decisions announced at E3 matter in the long run, but not because they were announced at E3. It could be GDC or a private event, which in recent history, has become more important in terms of market relevancy than E3.

Most people won't know that GTA 4 will be available for Xbox 360 or that the PS3 will cost the tiny price of your soul (EB Games now accepting trade-in souls for pre orders!) until they see or hear information at a retailer, game outlet or on mainstream television commercials.

Willco and Musashi have the most accurate opinions (if one can have such a thing).

Press Conferences in general are kind of stupid. Nintendo's press site and Xbox Live prove there are much, much better ways to get product info out, even exciting, surprise announcements.

That said, the absurdities that take place at press conferences can be rather funny.

Lol at people who still expecting stunning graphics for the Wii...when will you people realize?:lol

Nintendo's conference was good...all that it missed was an explosive end to it...instead we got light entertainment. :D

Sony's was a bore. Zzzzz. But certainly allowed me to re-evaluate whether I will be buying one at such a price...with throw away tilt feature and a bland clone to XBL but on a bigger commercial scale then XBL.

Microsoft delivered...nice conference...enjoyed watching it...:)

I have one or two isues...Nintendo tried to cram too many games into one show by splicing them altogether quickly...which was such a bad idea. Some of the games needed to be discussed and gone into more detail and have their own little time given to them.

Saying that though...we'll be talking about Red-Steel...Mario Galaxy...Excite-Truck...Fire Emblem and SE offerings for months to come.

The big thing for me was the Wii having 24/7 networking capabilities...clearly Nintendo are going straight to the point and creating a proper online community feature...and not some online aspect you log onto when you feel like it. From the sounds of it...online gaming will go hand-in-hand with single player aspects...both complimenting each other on alot of levels.

Sanitized my ass. It wasn't sanitized for MS during last year's E3. I remember some hate (or snide remarks) being tossed their way by Sessler and Pereira.

People expecting 299 were out of their minds. No sane person should have honestly expected that price. I expected anywhere from 399-499. That's where their SKUs should be, IMO.

Sony's conference blew at the start... GT4HD was horrible. A couple minutes of it, sure, that's fine, but for it to go on as long as it did really killed the conference IMO. If they would have shown the true GT5 after going through GT1-4 it would have been perfect though. All of the games shown looked great though. Heavenly Sword was amazing... the animation was far, far better than I expected. MGS4 was amazing too. I can't wait for the full trailer later on today. Price is a pain but the damn thing still has a bunch of games I want. Having them copy Nintendo was pretty shocking too, but I don't think it's a bad move. Just proves Nintendo's idea was great, and having two consoles push a new way to control is always better than one. It's not nearly as great as the Wiimote, but from the early impressions I've read at GameSpot it's actually pretty good.

Nintendo's conference basically proved that the wiimote will work damn well for games, much better than I expected. It looked very fun, but really tiring after a while. Graphics were worse than I expected... but hopefully that's because it's early. Prime 3 looked GC level, Red Steel looked hot though. Just as good as the scans IMO. Zelda looked amazing as expected, and actually looked better than most Wii games. Having Zelda available for the Wii launch is really going to help sell the system. I can easily see myself picking one up at launch now that I've seen the controller used.

I haven't seen the MS conference yet, and I probably won't watch it but will only download the game videos instead. From what I've read though, it was great. Having GTA announced wasn't really a surprise, after the Sony conference failed to mention the game at all. I expected MS to be the ones to announce some sort of deal with Rockstar. Big news and a huge deal for MS though. Having E3 available on Xbox Live was a brilliant idea, though. It was a really great move by MS.

Overally it's probably MS > Nintendo > Sony. Sony's price announcement really hurt them.
