So the PlayStation Vita.....

In Shahid, I trust.

I mean it's obvious Vita is in for the long run and they are obviously TRYING to rectify the problem, taking polls on jRPG games we want is an obvious sign.

The problem is - it takes awhile for games to be made.

The problem, actually, is that time is running out for the Vita. If they want it to be anything more than just an expensive accessory to the PS4 then they need to build some solid support under it.

Don't get me wrong, I love the experiences I've had so far with my Vita, but we can't wait too much longer before the Vita is a total lost cause.

Oh, come on! They wanna tell me that they couldn't even fit in 5 minutes for an unannouced vita games and a short talk by the devs?
It would have at least shown that they still care for the Vita...

People are already bitching about how they did not show enough PS4 games. So no matter what they did they were damnd if that did, damned if they did not.

Shahid works for SCEE which is why I think Gamescom will be a much better show for Vita, the guy says if people are still disappointed by the end of the year with the vitas line up he will slap himself on youtube.

My only hope at this point is that the PS4 will thoroughly dominate the next gen and maybe that extra cash will help fund some Vita development.

At least we have Muramasa and Dragon's Crown coming up. Vanillaware represent!

It's quite amazing. I had the money squared away for both a Vita and a Wii U this month, and yet no matter what I do, I can't seem to justify actually buying one. Soul Sacrifice looks quite nice, but nothing more special than a worse version of Monster Hunter mixed with a worse version of Dark Souls and Gravity Rush looks really great, but it's been over a year now and Sony doesn't seem to care about whether this console lives or dies based on their previous two E3 events.

I just hope Nintendo does a better job convincing me of the value of their console today, otherwise I'll likely just preorder a PS4 with the money.

How does the vita do in sunlight when compared with the psp? Better, worse, the same? I have a psp. There's only one game on the vita I want (persona 4 golden.) The batman bundle is $200 at target right now, so I'm basically looking for reasons to upgrade. I play a lot on the bus and while obviously nothing is going to look good in direct sunlight, even just being outside on a sunny day makes the psp pretty difficult to use, is the vita any better?

Not because of Shahid, but it seems Sony is doing "E3 for home consoles, Gamescom for handhelds" thingy. They left a megaton (KZM) and a gigaton (Tearaway), two of their biggest titles for Gamescom last year. They are clearly doing the same this year. I mean c'mon, Sony Bend has been working on a Vita game for at least 18 months, there's a reason why they didn't show it this morning.

Vita is definitely better as far as screen brightness goes. Although the brightness limit sucks but it is playable outside if it's not too sunny. Should be OK in the bus. Also it depends on a game itself, but P4G has very vivid colors so it should be pretty good even in well-lit places.

Yeah know, I didn't really have time to reflect on this fact last night after all the PS4 hype... No AAA game announced and nothign even rumoured... pretty poor showing over-all. Well, at least we get Killzone and Y's in Sept. and FFX, X-2 but before and after that? Ouch.... They could at least pay to port the Tales games to NA, or Borderlands I/II etc... but nothing....

I would love to see another person get a Vita, but no. It's barely playable outside on sunny days. It's ok for turn-based games, but anything action-y is unplayable.

As for Vitas showing... Yeah, I expected at least 1 or 2 big new games at the conference. Unfortunately we didn't see anything.
I still don't get why Sony releases stuff like GT6 and Puppeteer on PS3, while does games fit the Vita better (Puppeteer) or would drive sales significantly (GT6).

Rainbow Six and Borderlands are rumoured, at least.

Although Rainbow Six wasn't shown on ANY platforms. I don't even know if Ubisoft remembers they're working on that game.

Same here. PS guy was teasing us about amazing game and there was no game that met that criteria hell there weren't many games at all.
He never said it'd be at E3.

Vita still has a bright future in Japan with lots of games coming this year and next. It never had much of a chance for great success in markets outside of Japan.

Well first Shahid never said the "Amazing" game would be at E3. Second from what I have heard there are allot of Vita games on the show floor.

Sony had to put the main focus on PS4 this year especially at E3. Its a very important product for the future of playstation, and if they had spent less time on it to focus on Vita they would have gotten ripped up for that by the press. Does it suck? yes, no two ways about it, but Shahid says he believes our minds will have changed by the end of the year. Considering there is lots of stuff comming in the year we are currently in, I will give him the time hes asking for to prove the opposite of what people believe.

It's seems that 5 millions sales wasn't such a pessimistic prevision ...

For those expecting a price cut : Sony don't want to lose money on every single console sold, unless they can't coun't on many games sales, that won't happen outside Japan before they have big titles, so basically, it could never happens.

(I apologize for my bad english, french native)

I think Sony sensed blood in the water with the Xbox and went in for the kill with PS4 yesterday. They knew if they swung hard they would hit a home run. And they did.

I'm really interested in Vita as a remote play device. So I was hoping a price cut would be announced this week. But famousmortimer has been saying he didn't expect a cut this week because there's not a big release to pair it with and he's right.

I think Sony might just feel like they can focus on Vita a bit later this year. Maybe at TGS, with some a couple more announcements and a price cut, along with some more mainstream marketing about what remote play is all about.

As it stands now, I've got my eye out for a used one. I now have no reason to buy an XB1. All the better to spend the $$ on Sony products.

Even a 5 min tease/showreel wouldve been better than nothing

I dont like final fantasy games and indie games are meh, i bet 65 out of the 80 games will be mobile/indie

Prove me wrong sony

Bring gta
Gran turismo
A better COD
And a vita version of the star wars battlefront and youve won the hand held

Theres no batman on the vita yet

Yeah, looks like Vita really is fucked if E3 is any indicator. Sony buried it when we know they had bigger titles to focus on than GoW HD and Dead Nation (Even if they just showed some of Freedom Wars).

Is the Vita now just relegated to being the Gamescom machine, not worth stage time on E3?

Fucking tragedy.

Lego batman. I would just sell it to help reduce the cost of the bundle though.

I guess I'm going to pass ont he vita. I actually forgot until just now that on the psp you can use cfw to get brightness 4 even unplugged, and one game just isn't enough to make the vita worthwhile.

I own a vita. I like it. I don't play it much however. It's games selection pales to that of the 3ds. However, I'm a little shocked at how delusional vita supporters are bing in this thread. Everybody is moving the goal posts.

I don't think the vita is dead but its lack of success I think is an example of how the market has changed for handhelds. A $200+ handheld will simple not work in today's smart phone saturated market.

Seems like Vita is dead in the water. But Tearaway looks quite good. I'd buy a Vita for that and some of the games already available, but especially for remote play for indie games on the PS4.

But its too expensive as is.

I'm interested to see if there will be any Vita news at the booth once the show floor opens and people are able to walk around and tweet/write impressions. I would love to have seen a new Uncharted or Gravity Rush for Vita, but really, any news is good news at this point, so hopefully there's some smaller games on the show floor.

If they weren't going to show a bunch of new Vita games, the least they could have done (and it really is due anyways) is drop the price...

Until Vita will not get the game people want (and no one know what is this game...) that little shiny thing is doomed.

I have my white vita and I'm already in "panic" because the game I still need to play :

Little Big planet
Assassin creed
Escape plan
Uncharted

So probably i'm one of that people who are happy and fine with Vita.

Vita is my most played console of 2012 AND 2013, but even I see that the Vita is fucked. Blame Sony for having very few games in development and giving almost zero presence in top shows like E3.

They killed it themself...

Not to start with list wars, but these are games I want to play on vita when I finally get one soon:

* SFxTekken
* Mortal Kombat
* Uncharted Golden Abyss
* Gravity Daze
* Escape Plan
* Guacamelee
* Machinarium
* Retro City Rampage
* Sine Mora
* Velocity Ultra
* That Bigfoot game

I guess this will keep me busy for a while, so while I get that some people are nervous about the Vitas future, I think the current Line Up is well enough..

Vita will be (sorta) fine
In Japan (kinda)
As a niche device (maybe)
With mostly visual novel and other otaku games (that's all that sells on it apparently)

Nintendo managed to show less for the 3DS than Sony did for the Vita.

Fucking hell guys, where is the love for the portable generation.

They showed nothing I particularly want but I am still purchasing one Black Friday. Wish they could've showed something from Mercenary and Freedom Wars.

I never though i'd say this but I think i'm going to buy a Vita

GAME UK are doing a deal this week. VITA (WIFI) + Game for £150 which i think is pretty good, although i will have to buy a memory card as well

http://www.game.co.uk/en/playstatio...-229820?pageSize=20&categoryIdentifier=151637

Is this a good time to buy one? They're not going to release some updated version in the future?
I have all the same questions. Seems like a great time to buy and compliments the PS4 well, I just don't want a new version to release soon and make me regret an early purchase.

looking at how much they cost on Amazon I think that £150 price is crazy good, and even if there is a price slash in the future it'll probably not end up any cheaper than that.

I'm starting a plus subscription this week so i'll get uncharted and gravity rush for free, with plus and my lovefilm subscription (just checked they do do vita games) i'll probably never have to buy a game for it

Edit

I've just bought one :) got an extra £5 off with this discount code VCUKJUN13

I've just bought one :)

Nice.

Well I was depressed yesterday. But thinking now about all the interesting games I've played, the awesome gaffers I've played with online and all the stuff I still have yet to touch in my backlog, the Vita's been good to me, whatever the future holds.

i only played one vita game this e3, but it might have been my favorite game of the show.

a lot of times developers try to make something charming or cute, and it comes off as forced (see disney infinity). tearaway is genuine. there's a lot of effort in the game's design to make you really feel part of the world in more ways than one.

you, the player, are the god of the world in tearaway, and the main character's quest is to deliver the god the letter. it's a 3d platformer, and at first you can only make the character jump by tapping the back of the vita. it's a simple thing used to great effect, even when it's just teaching you how to play the game- which it does through actual level design and not forced tutorials. this is also before the game allows you to make the character jump using the buttons, so it familiarizes the player with the idea of manhandling the vita early on.

i think one of the really nice touches was at one point, the character looks up to see the sun, and in the middle, the vita uses the front camera to show your face. i don't know why. maybe it was just an honest, nice little touch, but i that it brought the story together at the start so easily. aw, the messenger wants to deliver you a letter! so you will help him on his quest. i really want to see what's inside.

there are other elements at play here too. the game asks whether you're male or female, what your eye and hair color is, what matches your skin tone best, and if you're a kid or not. so when the fingers break through the screen, they represent your own as much as possible.

platformers are my favorite genre. it's hard to surprise me anymore when it comes to new games in the genre. however, whenever something does, it usually becomes one of my favorites. i wasn't considering a vita for this game alone- there were others that i was interested in, but tearaway might push me over the edge. it looks really special.

Thanks for that review, man..

Sounds really nice...

One more game to add to my list... :)

I was on the fence about whether to preorder this, but I think you have tipped me over the edge too. Gonna see if it has a release date here yet (Japan), or I can just get it delivered from the UK for something like £20 which isn't bad. Thanks!

Awesome. This was the game that made me go buy a vita last year after gamescom.

This holiday we get Tearaway, Puppeteer, DKCR2, SM3DW, and Rayman Legends. Basically the best slate of platformers since... at least 1995.

i think i need to start a platformers thread for the upcoming generation. nothing on xbox one or ps4 at the moment though, outside of mirror's edge 2.
