How are you supposed to know when to laugh if I don't write LOL? LOLthat was funny until the "LOL".
Fifa games are trash, but I adore football so I can't resist.

As a fan of Tri Ace, I feel your plight. However, last gen's JRPGs weren't so hot tbh. This gen we got a mainline Dragon Quest on consoles. Nier 2 was a surprise. Secret of Mana a nice throwback. Yakuza's as good as it's ever been. Even got KH3 finally (I hated it but people like it). Atelier's going big. VC4 and Sakura Wars aren't JRPGs but scratches a similar itch. Hot new Tales game on the horizon. So not really that dire...In all honesty, it was a pretty horrible console generation for me.
I used to be mostly a JRPG gamer, but there wasn't even a single JRPG that absolutely fascinated me this gen.
My favorite developer tri-Ace suffered so much budget issues that it clearly shows (Star Ocean Integrity And Faithlessness and Exist Archive) and Akitoshi Kawazu brought out SaGa Scarlet Grace, but it doesn't have the feeling of exploration I loved about the previous titles (at least we got remasters of RSG 2&3). Camelot still sticks to making sport games and tri-Crescendo is back only helping with the sound.
None of the new AA developers that emerges did anything I enjoyed. Compile Hearts only makes crap, Tokyo Factory has the heart at the right place but absolutely no clue about good game design and Kemco releases their better titles on mobile-only. Octopath Traveler wasn't as good as I hoped as it was way to formulaic. And Alliance Alive which I had high hopes for as it is inspired by the SaGa series didn't really manage to capture the Akitoshi Kawazu spirit and also horrible balancing issues.
Atlus is still popular with the crowd, but they never made games that I enjoyed playing so far and this gen that didn't change.
At least Falcom still knows how make fun games, maybe Ys VIII is even the best JRPG i played this gen except for indie titles. Unfortunately I'm not the biggest fan of "wall of text" games so Trials (probably the most popular JRPG series lately) isn't really for me either.
And of course there's still Final Fantasy and I even still liked FFXV, but it also had so many flaws that it's hard for me to call it anything near a masterpiece. And FFVII Remake I simple wasn't interested in, already having played the original and also the fact that it doesn't even adapt the full story and for that is way overpriced.
At least we got some nice indie JRPGs. I remember enjoyed Cosmic Star Heroine, Shadow of Adam and Ara Fell Enhanced Edition quite a bit for example. Still the difference between small indie projects and high budget AAA titles from the 16-bit era are still quite noticable.

Another topic is that this gen, it felt kind of pointless to even have bought a console. Almost every game I was ever interested in released for PC anyway.
Anyway, this gen I actually ended up playing repetitive games the most:
Slay The Spire
Parkitect
Magic: The Gathering Arena
They Are Billions
Those were the games I played forever this gen.
DOTA 2. Fuck that game
It was an abusive relationship to say the least.Dota 2 being a fun game is actually a myth. But we kept going back XD
I like seeing Bloodborne get mentioned so much. I completed a lot of playthroughs of that game. I think over time Sekiro might earn more total hours, though.
Final Fantasy Theaterrhythm and Sushi Strikers: Way of Sushido are two of my most-played games this gen (100s of hours on each), both by the same studio, indieszero.
Lot of other little indie games have given me a surprising number of hours this gen, too:
- Assault Android Cactus
- Flywrench
- Spelunky (and probably Spelunky 2, too)
- Overcooked
- Enter the Gungeon
- Flywrench
- N+++++
- Pixeljunk Monsters 2
- Minecraft
- Runner 3
- Astebreed
- Risk of Rain 1 and 2
Diablo 3 also gave me a ton of value this gen, even though it's a port of a last gen game I suppose.
Shit, how did I forget Nioh. The wait for 2 to release on PC is still so painful. I want to BE the oni.MHW and Nioh 1/2
