One thing I think we can all agree on is that all three had much better presentations than in the last few years.

EDIT: I thought the best presenter was Sony's Jack Trenton. He has this "everyman" aura about him. He seems like a very approachable guy.

The worst presenter was the dude with the shades showing off Natal on stage. He just looks like the kinda asshole who hits on your girlfriend in a bar and thinks he's gods gift to women.

rofl thats what makes kudo so awesome.

He looks like a sleezeball, like he just came from a strip club. And he sounds like he don't give a fuck. So much better than the awkward twins from the sony conference. although it was hilarious. I expected them to randomly break into song "IM GUY NUMBER ONE" "IM GUY NUMBER TWO"

ugh, the ps3 tech was awesome, so much more potential to actually be used in a game, but the guys who presented it were just about the worst duo they could have chosen, the one douche couldnt even hit a damn tennis ball...

I.E. 90% shit I don't care about that I don't actually consider gaming and scraps tossed to the real gamers.

Microsofts already looked like a nintendo conference, right down to the hammy acted "showcase" segments.

I still stand behind my belief that they stuck them in at the last minute and they were'nt prepared to be on stage at all.

Far and away it was MS.

Natal actually looked good. And this is a pretty huge admission from me, who absolutely loaths motion control as currently implemented and hated the idea of MS jumping on the waggle bandwagon.

But they pulled it off. So that right there is a major plus.

Then, quite simply, it was all about the games. Many of which we either had seen nothing in-game of (Forza, ODST) or had been in long stretches of hibernation (Alan Wake, Splinter Cell).
Each and every one of the geames demoed looked mighty impressive. Yes Sony had Uncharted2 and GOW 3, but we already knew a substantial amount about these games.

No one had a fucking clue how great Forza and Splinter Cell was going to look.

That's the very definition of a great gaming conference. Have some really platform boundary pushing technology (Natal, much more impressive than what Sony showed) then follow it up one great looking game after another.

And if all else fails: Crackmotherfuckingdown 2

I voted MS, because I don't have a Wii or PS3 so their stuff isn't relevant to me.

However, I'm surprised Nintendo hasn't gotten many votes. They announced a number of amazing games.

Voted MS even though they probably showed the fewest games I'm actually interested in. They had a ton of stuff in every area. I don't care about motion controls and some of the Natal stuff looked hokey (especially Milo), but you know the mainstream press is going to eat that shit up. And I agree with the commenter above that Kudo, while a gigantic tool, was one of the more entertaining presenters there. So many of the other presenters were awkward as fuck (Mattrick, Tretton), obviously didn't want to be there (Beatles), or were so nervous it was painful to watch (Twitter, Facebook girl). I actually thought Spielberg was decent too.

Still plenty of good moments all around, like spastic girl playing 3D breakout, Kudo and the mangled avatar, Tretton's "PS2 outsold next gen hardware in April, like the PS3...oops", elephant painting, etc.

Nothing impressed me this year. Nintendo set the bar too high with their reference-quality 2008 conference. :lol

Seriously though, I think Sony and Microsoft were both outstanding. I preferred the Sony lineup because it is overflowing with Team ICO, Final Fantasy, Santa Monica, and Naughty Dog win. But that is influenced strongly by my affinity for adventure games and RPGs.

Nerds complaining about nerds on stage.... delicious irony.

I'm honestly surprised at this, too.

considering that SMG was game of the year here at Gaf a while ago, I would think the sequel with muthafuckin' Yoshi slurping up fools would be getting more love.

I thought they were a solid number 2 behind MS this year. they showed way more hardcore stuff than I thought they would.

All three were good - in terms of conferences? MS. Liked the "showing games" focus, even if the Halo 3 ODST presentation was lackluster.

In terms of games? Was going to say MS again until I saw the trailer for Last Guardian, but the XBLA Perfect Dark softens its effect, and I'd call it a tie between MS and Sony. No matter how you look at it, this set of consoles is about to get real awesome.

MS had the best conference by far... it was rock solid with a perfect blend of games, gear, and talent. But I did appreciate Sony's honesty and humor. The PSP shit bored me to tears, but the PS3 stuff was good.

Microsoft and Sony brought their best performances ever. Nintendo... I dunno. Nothing really excited me. I can't say why. Just seemed like the same old same ol'

Presentation wise MS had the better show as it was more entertaining to watch with lots of celebrities and more polished presentations. But when you compare it with what Sony showed it was clearly flash and style over real substance.

Sony had the best showing game wise and announcement wise. They simply had more exclusive games and exciting announcements than the competition. Also their motion tracking business looked far better researched and far more realistic and usable in core games than what MS showed.

Nintendo managed to impress me way more than I was expecting. I can't wait to play MG2. But still overall they had the poorest conference.

I liked Sony's the Best. PSP Go! introduction, All future PSP games for download (digital download is here!!) 50 more PS1 games on PSN, Surprise unveil of FF 14, Uncharted 2 looked awesome, God of War 3 has me pumped, Team Ico Game reveal, the ads were slick. I just liked it the best overall.

Microsoft and Nintendo were basically tied for me. Microsoft had more quantity of cool stuff then Nintendo but the stuff Nintendo did have made me real excited.

Overall a very solid E3 from the big 3.

i was not a fan of nintendo's presentation style (it was a snoozer) but i'll buy more of the games they showed than either of the others' by far. guess i'd go MS for twitter/facebook/last.

Voted for Sony, they had the best games, some new IP and FF14 exclusive.

Kinda shocked at the low numbers for the Wii though, their game lineup was surprisingly stacked.

MS was the weakeast...just more halo and that CREEPY milo stuff.

Sony, because of The Last Guardian. Going to buy some new speakers for it.

The wait for Project Offset continues, though. Behind closed doors, maybe ?

PSP held PS's back for sure (except MGS looked fucking fantastic), so I would say MS wins because of constant enjoyment throughout, but Sonys was surprisingly good. I think their motion shit is more versatile and ready now where Natal needs lots of attention and development, but the potential is there.

Watched all of both Conferences.

Both MS's and Sony's motion options have their own advantages.

Natal sold me on dashboard navigation alone. It just freed me from having to get the 360 to where my kids want to be. Plus, invisible game show button goes BZZZZZT! I'm diggin that whole game show aspect. Natal seems to be aiming at the casual base because of the ease of use.

Sony's 2 handed approach and their tech demos sold ME as a gamer. Not a knock to the wii. I just wanted to see where all 3 companies motion direction is first.

The important part of the whole thing is that MS and Sony is showing motion as an option.

yeah. because what we saw didn't just have music composed for something else entirely over it.

So, you doubt—considering Ico and SOTC—that the music for this will be startlingly good ?

Totally agree... the motion is an option, not the whole enchilada. I also agree that I was more excited with the possibilities that natal has for menu navigation. Especially voice recognition. It will be so cool to simply say "pause movie" instead of having to power up my controller, hitting the B button to bring up the controls and then finally navigating to pause and hitting A.

no. but i don't see why in a thread about what was actually shown at the press conferences, why someone would make a comment like 'i need to buy new speakers' for a game which we haven't heard a single sound from.

speculate about what wasn't shown all you like... IN OTHER THREADS.

I voted Sony, they had the best games at their conference. I'm really interested in that fully customizable kart racer, and The Last Guardian is looking phenomenal.

Microsoft did well, and Nintendo was a little disappointing.

I wasn't making a big deal out of it. That I'm prepared to take its excellence on faith is a measure of the game's, and therefore Sony's, strength, promise, and E3 success.

Is it even worth asking?

Truly, fully, absolutely Sony by miles and miles and miles.

Insanely, absolutely immensely impressive games. Tons and tons of exclusives. True 1:1 3D motion remote. Third party exclusives like FF14 and Agent. New System in PSP GO. OMG TRICO/GT5/UNCHARTED2/GOW3....etc....etc.

Those votes for Ubi show that people who have otherwise woud have voted for Sony for its better games shown, also have a great sense of humor.

Nintendo wins the war for the past 4 years.

Not because of what they showed (which was awesome anyways), but because of what their competitors resorted to.

This. The sheer fact that they carved out their own niche so large not only are they outselling the competition but the competition is coming up with some add-on to try and play catch-up means they're the market leaders. Cynical game journalists can sit there with their hands folded but at the end of the day, they and everyone else in the video game industry take their queues from Nintendo.

I accidentally voted Microsoft even though I thought Sony won. :lol

Sony's press conference actually got mega sabotaged by all their leaks. How much more impressive would it have been had we not known about the PSP Go and Trico? Megaton after devestating Megaton!

Microsoft's was still good, though I give the edge to Sony since I think Sony's waggle tech is more compelling than Microsoft's and Sony straight up had more games I was interested in on a personal level.

Nintendo continues to plan their conferences bizarrely, announcing boring things at their conference and interesting details and even full games by just posting it on their site after the show. Really there was just not enough from Nintendo at all at this conference and Motion Plus was a complete let down since we saw it last year and now it's been completely blown out of the water by Sony and Microsoft's tech.

Sony - A
Microsoft - B
Nintendo - D

Nintendo.

I'm not considering the actual quality of the presentation but more so that they had SUPER MARIO FUCKING GALAXY 2 and MS/Sony didn't.

btw MS and Sony launching Wii remote rip-offs is some lame shit, stick to your guns

Sony's conference was great. Their showing on the floor is the best of all big three too (with Microsoft probably being the worst).

Conferences:

Sony > Microsoft > Nintendo

Show floor:

Sony > Nintendo > Microsoft

Nintendo showed off four new games that caught my interest (and caught me off-guard). That's something they haven't done in... shit, forever. I think half of them or most of them are 2010 games, though. Sony showed off some cool stuff for next year, but they definitely have 2009 nailed down.

This was the year for Microsoft to fuck up so that PS3 would start outselling 360 this Christmas (the fifth holiday for 360 and the fourth for PS3). They actually had their best conference ever, and I'd also rate them an all-out win by a narrow margin.

Everybody's press conference was bad. Sony's was the least embarrassing but had the least interesting stuff. Ubisoft wins for hilaribad.

Microsoft won slightly. Jumping right into the games is what everyone wanted to hear. Natal looks interesting, and I hope to see more of this implemented in a clever way. MS also showed most of their unveilings through live gameplay rather than just trailers.

Sony's conference was so boring in regards to all the montages and wasted time talking about games that no one really cared about. Why were the montages not shown full screen? Nobody wants to watch footage in a tiny box. Also, they kept cranking out numbers to make themselves sound smart. I did like their tech showing of the Sony waggle (although why did it have to looks so phallic) toy and eyetoy peripheral.

GOW3 looked pretty much like the rest of GOW (which are look great graphically, it's just it doesn't seem this generation jumped a lot). It still showed small corridors and not very open battles. If GOW3 turns out to be like a dynasty warriors open environment, then that'll be epic. At the moment, this looks like something you can churn out on the PSP/PS2.

The Last Guardian looks all right, but it's just a trailer. I wish I could have seen gameplay of this.

People are just saying Sony won because of the Sony waggle wand are not thinking this through. They're tired of people nagging on Sony because of the terrible years before.

Aside from the game announcements, Nintendo's was probably the worst, but I am excited about the new metroid game and two mario games.

As for Ubi's, I don't have an opinion since I did not watch it.

I'm sure some of you may disagree what I've said. I don't think you can deny though it is more important to demo realtime game play rather than showing movies.

Sony had too many awesome game trailers, Uncharted 2 blew me away but so did Last Guardian, GoWIII, GT5, etc. Fat Princess PSP was a shock to me, great to see though. Oh and Metal Gear Solid for the psp looked great.
