They all were good I think Microsoft had more surprises...the $249 price tag for the psp go really tipped the scale for me and all the leaks also.

This thread has probably degraded into raging fanboy debates by now, but...

I thought that Sony showed the best content (Uncharted 2, Last Guardian, God of War III, GT5) but they spent too much time on montages. I'm still not quite sure what to think about their new waggle wand... it seemed amazingly accurate, but I'll have to read up on it some.

Microsoft definitely had the best presentation. They showed a few new games, some impressive Live improvements, and spent virtually no time on sales and shit, but holy crap at project natal hyperbole (still looked like pretty interesting stuff).

Nintendo's conference had its moments, but overall I felt it was pretty dry. But I'm definitely excited for Galaxy 2 and that new Metroid game.

Close between Sony and MS, but I'd have to go with Microsoft.

Nothing blew me away quite as much as Uncharted 2, but the Alan Wake/Splinter Cell: Conviction/Crackdown 2 trinity tipped the scales for me. Plus (in theory) I like MS' approach to 'waggle' tech much more.

Kratos sucks. Samus or the main character from Bayonetta or anyone that's even remotely interesting would beat his ass.

Your edited post is even crappier than the original.

Whoever feels the need to put claqueurs into the audience is already a sore loser in my books. As I do not especially care for Mario games there is no other choice than to give MS my vote.

I was trying to match the overall crappiness Kratos made your post, for consistency's sake.

Seriously, what an awful character. The worst thing about this game is that it won't be the last one.

I agree totally. My PSP has been rotting for a few months but I'm really excited about some of the games announced for it.

Me too I think PSP had a very very strong showing. Too bad about the disappointing PSP Go (Price & Feature wise). But it does have a lot of great games, I can't wait for LBP, Fat Princess, Metal Gear and Resident Evil.

I think the current stats in the poll shows quite accurately how i felt they were performing. I voted Sony, but i think MS was very close.

Regardless of if you own the xbox or the ps3 you have an awesome lineup incoming.

I like my 360 plenty, but the PS3's is way, way stronger.

Also, I don't own a PS3, which is pretty unfortunate.

Well but on the other hand Sony had more 2010-games in their show (err.. i think). I agree it's unfortunate for you that you do not own a PS3 though. I think anyone who does not own a PS3 is unfortunate. =)

I think Sony having the longest conference gave the impression that there wasn't a constant flow of announcements also the fact that they didn't show anything from Agent and Resident Evil PSP sucked and finally the absolute absence of any FW news sucked the most but all in all great show (also $249 hurts a bit).

Microsoft had a great show the Milo and Natal thing slowed things down a bit (boring especially the painting part)

I didn't catch Nintendo from the start but I was impressed from what I saw at the end was absolutely a step in the right direction.

I would say MS just for the fact that Sony didn't say anything about FW (which they and we totally need) also all 3 were better than last year which sucked ass really hard.

I didn't watch Sony's, but MS beat Nintendo; however, Nintendo had the better surprise IMO, w/ Metroid: Other M. Project Natal? I don't give a damn.

I liked all three conferences this year, but I'd have to say it's tied with Sony and Microsoft. Microsoft having the slight lead due to better presentation of all the games they've shown plus the announcement of MGS:R.

PSP really stole this show though, I hope it's rejuvenated with the new design and all the games coming out.

WOW MS leading on GAF, what has this world come to? That's saying something esp on here.

Why do you say that? I think most on the board own a 360. I'm more surprised nintendo is so far behind in the poll they seem to have the most loyal fans here on GAF and the announcement of Golden Sun, Metroid and a sequel to the GOTF, I thought for sure would of pushed them to the top.

I can't wait to play Golden Sun.

Nintendo’s conference was extremely dull for 50 minutes, then they showed off Super Mario Galaxy 2 and Metroid. I’m excited about both, but as a whole, Nintendo’s conference was a disappointment. Again.

I initially considered Sony this year’s winner, but looking back, I think I was more impressed by the constant stream of announcements than by some of the games themselves. I don’t care much for Peace Walker, FF XIV, MAG and GOW3. They spent too much time on montages, their motion control technology is a blatant Wii Motion Plus rip-off, and in the end the leaks really hurt them.

I’m going to give the edge to Microsoft. I was very glad to see games like Alan Wake, but I was truly floored – and how often does that happen at a videogame show? – by Natal, and Milo in particular, which clinched the victory for them in my opinion.

NINETY people voted for UBI??
If you can't appreciate an hour of people rambling about next to nothing, you can't appreciate anything!

The whooping people in the crowd know what I'm talking about. :lol

I voted for Microsoft.

Nintendo was dramatically better than last year, not that that would be hard, in that there were three games that I'm definitely interested in: Metroid, Mario Galaxy 2, and Golden Sun DS. Still loads of crap that I didn't give a shit about which kind of prevented it from being the number one, but hopefully the Nintendo conferences are more like this in future.

Sony was very good. Opened strongly with that fantastic Uncharted 2 demonstration - my most wanted PS3 game - and I liked the look of MAG, although it was kind of complicated to demo particularly well. It also closed incredibly well with GT5, GOW, and The Last Guardian. It just sagged a lot in the middle, and although there was some good stuff in there they spent way too long on the incredibly boring demos of the motion controller and ModNation, which lost a lot of steam for the conference.

I must say that what they showed on stage of God of War III was kind of disappointing. Not only did they cut before something exciting was going to happen but the sequence shown was kind of underwhelming. Obviously it's better in terms of graphical fidelity, but the actual action didn't even look as impressive in scope as the opening sequence of GOWII IMO, particularly when we've already seen battles on the back of a Titan and stuff like that.

Mainly, though, most of the games aren't going to be out this year. I doubt any of the last three will, neither Final Fantasy will, the motion controls won't... There's a lot of responsibility on Uncharted 2 for 2009.

Microsoft impressed me the most because it bought a lot of games, many of which are coming this year, and some were even new announcements like Left 4 Dead 2 and Forza 3 - we knew that one was coming, admittedly, but it hadn't been confirmed. Splinter Cell came out of nowhere to be one of my most wanted for 2009, although I am a huge fan of the series.

It also started laying out its stall for 2010, which is something that Microsoft hasn't really done over the last few years; we now have Alan Wake, Mass Effect 2 and Final Fantasy XIII for next spring, with MGS: Rising, Crackdown 2 (I assume that's 2010 as it was CG and no date was announced), and Halo: Reach for later, so apparently Microsoft got sick of the "360 has no games for this year" that seems to come about every January. It makes the platform look healthier.

Nadal was impressive technically and is revolutionary if it works as advertised, but I have my doubts about whether or not it's going to work that well in the living room. It would be nice to be proven wrong, but I'm staying pessimistic there.

To be fair, Sony essentially included their 2010 E3 presentation in with this year's too, so I'm going to mark them down a bit for that. The other two both had a bit more focus on 2009, and I thought MS have a solid lineup for this year. Forza III blew me away, and I was also pleasantly surprised by the Crackdown 2 reveal, as well as FFXIII running on a 360 in English.

Great conferences all around though. Noone lost this year, just as noone won last year.

for the games I won't comment as I don't own a PS3

But Microsoft Smashed both nintendo and Sony as far as presentations go.

Microsofts was slick with polished looking products and services.
The Natal thing combined with user interface makes me a very happy camper and I look forward to the media centre 360 is going to become because of it. As for games.... uh more halo I guess is always nice. I'm completely hooked on SFIV still and games dont really ring my bell right now.

Nintendos conference followed in the mold of their usual bullshit 'look how rich we are, look how we innovate, here's another ludicrous peripheral' I dunno their conferences are always horrible since they got rich. Womans murder club single handedly saved the conference for them

Sony had an excellent speaker, that main guy, he was great at fudging stats to make it sounds like PS3 was winning. Their conference was MURDERED by that embarrassing unfinished half assed waggle tech demo where the nerd wanted to cry and basically admitted it looked lame. B-b-b-uuut it turns red when you do a fireball!' Just terrible. And the tech is M+ + a little bit and obviously will suffer the same shit software the wii does while people grapple with developing for it.

Basically waggle sux. At least with microsoft I can waggle my DICK at the screen and some 10 year old boy will giggle at it.

Nintendo's show felt kinda awkward until they started to show their actual games. The crowd seemed almost sleepy and seemed to clap only with Metroid: Another M. If they just removed all the "casual crap" and replaced it with something that "real gamers" really want, it would have rocked.

I voted for Sony.

IMHO, they had the best looking games: Uncharted2, The Last Guardian, GoW3 and GT5. They scored nice exclusives from 3rd party heavy weights like S-E and Rockstar. Their waggle tech was functional and the whole demo was live. Their conference was far from ideal, but charmingly human. I liked the nervous Jack. He even managed to improvised some humor. The two nerdy engineers from the waggle demo were also pretty hilarious. They had a good time with their tech display and it showed.

MS had a nice show, but most of their 1st party stuff did nothing for me. Their whole Natal stuff looked great in the video footage, but I doubt it will work as flawlessly as advertised. How would it know who's actually suppose to be the driver with four moving people on the couch? That Milo stuff is such a creepy pipe dream. AI interaction the way they suggested it will never happen on 360. The whole "we're the best, our platform is complete now" bullshit was pretty needy and pathetic.

I didn't bothered to watch the Nintendo conference yet.

I've got to say, the poll represents how I feel pretty well:

Nintendo far behind, Sony and Microsoft practically neck and neck with the slight lead to Microsoft (although Sony could have pipped them, had all their stuff not leaked)

I went with Sony, just edging it over Microsoft. This is based purely on the fact that they showed more games that I know I will absolutely love (Uncharted 2, GoW3, TRICO, Metal Gear Peace Walker, GT PSP).

If I was judging it on overall quality and polish of marketing then Microsoft would have won hands down, bringing out the remaining Beatles, Tony Hawk and Spielberg. However for me the overall presentation felt like they were focussing on moving their system into the Wii market (can't blame them if there is money there)

I like the fact that Sony's idea of relating to markets other than the hardcore is to throw a Pink PSP bundled with Miley Cyrus, shows they are more focussed on making gamer's games than anyone else. I also think that Sony's demonstration of motion control demonstrated that they got how it could be used in proper games (although I am not sure I really need/want it).

Nintendo's seemed a bit lazy to me, showing games that would appeal to gamers that could be put together relatively quickly. Maybe I have just lost touch with them a bit, I was hoping they might try launching a new IP aimed at traditional Nintendo gamers.

Not as awful as the one-dimensional mute characters that have been milked by Nintendo all these years though. Noone beats how boring and predictable these characters are. ;)

You just reminded me that I wanted to say how much I like Jack Tretton. He's not as polished and comfortable on stage as most other executives from all three companies, but he seems genuine and likeable, and he's willing to poke fun at the fact that he's not some incredible stage presence.

Unless it's all just an act to make people like him...

Nintendo conference had like two moments, SMG2 and a bad looking Metroid coming from a fake Team Ninja.

The rest of the conference was boredom and crap. But as always, Nintendo throws a cookie and fans turn it into a full blown meal.

That would be clever. :D

I now have visions of him striding off stage laughing loudly and removing his head cap to reveal long flowing golden hair...

...wait, what was I saying?

All three conferences were actually very good. If you take a step back and look at it from a general standpoint instead of "If someone other than me would play it then it shouldnt be in the conference" you see basically all three conferences were:
- paced well
- had a good casual/hardcore mix
- Had a good mix of surprises, demos, trailers, and speeches
- had a good mix of hardware/software

All three conferences hit all the points. It's such a close race that any attempt to pick a winner is just console war fodder.

(note: Ubisoft's conference not considered a conference for this discussion)

I would say that's probably because most people who really like said games probably share in thinking all videogame stories suck. That your actions should be the story. And the less awkward, self-indulgent crap subjected on the player, the better. But that's just a thought from somebody who lists gameplay as 1, 2, and 3 most important things in a game.

Microsoft had the best show. As in, their presentation was the most entertaining. However I think all three had dope games and nice reveals. I don't care about MMO's so Sony's was a bit lacking but overall I think they were all pretty nice in terms of games.

The real winner of the show was clearly Facebook.

Though I'd say it showed the least amount games I'm interested in, I must admit that Sony's conference was very impressive. Just a constant stream of games and new hardware. That was a very solid presentation and Jack Tretton's a great speaker.

Microsoft's was pretty good as well, though the entire Rockband/Social Networking/awkward Natal demonstrations lowered the overall quality.

Nintendo's was short and not very impressive, though still a big step up from last year's. They should've shown more games, especially 3rd party titles and more MotionPlus games. It's releasing in a few weeks and all they've got to show for it is WiiSports Resort and some 3rd party sports titles. Red Steel 2 by the end of the year isn't enough to "convince the hardcore gamer" on its potential.

Then again, they announced some really nice surprises like Golden Sun DS, a new JRPG from Monolith Soft, Mario Fucking Galaxy 2 and a new Metroid by Team Ninja of all people.

Sony had the best game reveals and lineup, but their waggle tech demo went on way too long and wasn't overly impressive. $249.99 for the Go hurt as well. Microsoft is just so much better at the theatrics of it all that from a pure entertainment standpoint, they had the best conference and the most impressive tech with Natal.

Of course, all the mainstream media is going to say Nintendo won because of lolcasuals. Ah well, hopefully the new 2.5D Mario and SG2 are actually challenging this time.

Outside of the montages - which mostly showed 09 product anyway - in their main demos and their announcements there were 7 non-2009 games there (6 if we take out FFXIII which is coming in 09 to PS3 in Japan). Which was just a couple more than MS (they showed/announced 5 by my reckoning). So I don't think you're quite being fair.

edit - Moreover, 5 of those 7 at least are dead certs for next year..3 of them in the early part of the year.

Microsoft - A+
Sony - B
Nintendo - F

Microsoft had the most consistent conference. Sony started off really well with Uncharted 2 but it went downhill after that until the final minutes of the show. Nintendo was terrible the entire time.

graywolf323 said:
if it weren't for the leaks people would be saying Sony
I'd have said Sony if they'd dropped the price of the PS3. Would have been the cherry on top of a good conference. As it was though, I thought they and MS were about even.

The king by far was the Ubisoft one though. I'll remember that for a long, long time. :lol
