Manning's still better.

Brady is basically the Barry Bonds of Football, except his coach/GM/Goodell all help him cheat.
Noodle arm Payton Manning has steroids associating with him so.... You might want to rethink that.

And to clarify Brady was never found guilty of Deflating any balls.

And science literally proves no intentional deflating was necessary to account for any of the measured pressures. Environmental factors could wholly be responsible for what was measured.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA, Peyton? PEYTON?!

It's hard to compare the losingest QB in post season history to the winningest QB in post season history. Not to mention, ALLLLL THOSE RIIINNNNGGGGGGSSSSS.

The Manning vs Brady debate ended in 2014 when Brady got his 4th ring. I cannot believe people to continue believe this. You guys can take Manning stats and I will take Brandy's 5 rings every time.

I'd put Brady and Montana as 1a, 1b. Both are the GOAT's for different reasons. Brady has the most wins now but also has the 2 loses to Eli, whereas Joe Cool is 4-0 in the Super Bowl. Both guys have valid arguments for being called GOAt so why not both.gif

It's the same argument NBA fans will likely be having about MJ vs Lebron when it's all done.

Another way to look at this though is that with 1 more appearance Brady will have double the SB appearances over Montana. A trip to the super bowl even in a loss is still pretty impressive and certainly better than not going at all.

Another important aspect of the game yesterday was just how big of a legacy swing that game actually was. If Brady played terribly and went 4-3 in Super Bowls, it would have been a lot tougher to call him the GOAT. That outcome almost happened too.

Instead the greatest comeback in Super Bowl history occurred and pushed him closer to GOAT status, if not finally there.

He was already GOAT no matter the outcome yesterday. 7 SB appearances and 4 wins would still be greatest of all time. It's just now you can't really mention anyone else in the same breath. The debate is over.

What about MVPs doesn't Manning have the most at 5? Shouldn't individual awards count more for judging individual talent rather team awards? Or do Super Bowls matter most because they are earned rather than given by the press?

Hate him and the Pats, but there's no argument against him as the GOAT player and Bellichick as the GOAT coach. 5 Super Bowls and just dominant for going on two decades now.

Joe doesn't have time for people who have lost a SB and laughs at someone who throws a pick (let alone a pick six)

this is the worst argument of all time.
Joe lost before the super bowl, how is that any better than losing in the super bowl.

Tom is 25-9 (73.5% win rate) in the playoffs
Joe is 16-7 (69.6% win rate)

You're playing for the post season, always. Peyton was a good QB in the regular season when nothing was on the line. Peyton was also SHIT when it mattered, which has earned him the title of losingest QB in the post season.

He's not even the best QB in his family, lol.

Fine you want to count MVPs I am good with that.

Manning has 6 (5 regular season 1 SB)
Brady has 6 (2 regular season 4 SB)

As a player which would you rather have?

Exactly. Really even just as impressive as the 5 wins is the 7 SB appearances vs Montana's 4. That really sets Brady further ahead. There's really no debate other than nostalgia. Brady wins in every single metric.

Brady never had a Jerry Rice or Marvin Harrison like Montana and Manning - he had Randy Moss for one year and went 18-1 with 50+ TDs. So yeah

I'd rather have Peyton and Belichick

But really I think Brady is best all time, will pass Peyton's career stats, has a high chance of winning six, should have gotten more MVP votes for this season, but it's always a pet peeve of mine to see people throw around championships like they're individual awards. Maybe because I've always been team Lebron over Kobe haha

To be fair, Montana had two Super Bowls before Rice was drafted and was already considered one of the best QB's of his era. Rice was drafted in 85 and Montana's last game with SF was the 90 NFC Championship. Rice actually played more seasons with Steve Young then with Montana.

You also have to take into account the difference in rules. That game Montana played in Philadelphia in 1989 would get QB's today killed. The Eagles beat the ever loving shit out of him, only for Montana to throw 4 TDs in the 4th to win the game.

With that said, Brady is the best of all time, last night cemented it in my mind (and I'm a huge Joe Montana fan).

Gronk and Wes Welker were pretty good don't through them away.

I have doubts if Gronk will be on the Pats next year anyways. Can't stay healthy and Brady can do it with nobodies. Patriots way to save were they can, improve were they must.

Fair enough but there are obviously different tiers of SB rings. IE Manning's two SB rings are obviously more impressive than Garoppolo two SB rings. I know it is a team efforts to win a SB but what Brady has done in 5 SB has been nothing short of amazing.

Also just because I think Brady is the GOAT doesn't mean that Montana and Manning where not great themselves.

Gronk and Wes Welker were pretty good don't through them away. I do wonder about Gronk though. The guy is only 28 but he has several surgeries and cannot ever stay healthy. I can see him being traded.

Brady has 4 rings without Gronk playing in the SB and has 5 without Welker.

After he wins five more for the other hand, I think he should should play until he is nearly 60 and work on a ring for each toe. I am a Falcons fan, but can't deny how great he is. It's ridiculous to look at what he has accomplished.

I think we need to change up the argument a little bit

Greatest QB? Inarguable. He is. Period.

What about greatest player? Jim Brown is usually considered to have that title.

the obsession with titles in a team game is absolutely baffling, it's like thinking ryan giggs (13 league titles, 2 champions league, 4 domestic cups) is the best footballer ever, and way way way better than diego maradona who merely won serie a twice outside of the world cup.

obviously one of the greats just a nonsense way of arguing it

Gronk will be back for one more year. The cap hit from moving him would be almost as bad as keeping him next year. Might as well try to push one more playoff run out of him, then move him the following year.

Well, this particular SB will prop his legacy up for sure. That said, goddamnit Atlanta. You should be ashamed of yourselves.

That being said, I can't be bothered to call Brady the GOAT because he got caught cheating twice. But I gotta hand it to him, this season stands out because the only team he lost to as a starter was the Seahawks.

As a person, he's garbage. Trump supporters get no love from me.

Also, why do Patriots fans go "nuh-uh, you are" whenever someone brings up the cheating or the Trump thing? It's, like, a trait exclusive to Pats fans.

Oh absolutely. Last night's game was awe inspiring as as a football fan, Brady's masterpiece of his career. Amazing sports time we live in getting to watch Brady, Lebron, Tiger Woods, Federer, Bonds, Messi. I don't know if there's ever been this kind of embarrassment of riches when it comes to athletes over the last 15 years

Gronk is a back injury away from retirement. I hope he can stay healthy, but I hope he retires a Patriot over going to some other team and destroying his body more.

Yeesh those run stats and clock stats are even worse than I realized. I remembered his years with the Skins (I'm from MD and have an in-law who I tease about being a fan, used to be a fan myself) but could never tell if his failings there were due to his decisions or the Skins Snydering it up. Seems like he's managed to fail upwards pretty well. Granted the Falcons had a great offensive season overall, but it's all about how you end the season, and they ended it horribly.

Man, if he hadn't had a bum ankle in the most recent Pats vs Giants SB, that final hail mary could have gone the other way... The man just hasn't been able to stay healthy these last few years.

Because both arguments are overblown sensationalist garbage used only to try and discredit the man or his accomplishments.

I would honestly just retire on such a win, were I Tom. Imagine having that SB to cap off an already legendary career. I mean, he is 40 and has won five rings. What more does he need to prove?
