Sold my switch today...

Ironically, the youngsters don't realise that the Switch is very attractive to adults as the latter have responsibilities (children, work, chores).

There is only one currency that actually distinguishes games - the time you have to invest in them.

The Switch is the most accommodating console in that regard.

Yep, Nintendo consoles are the only ones I never buy anymore and it's because I outgrew them. Even JRPG's and most anything with cartoony graphics are not for me. There are some exceptions like Undermine recently though. Great gameplay can transcend my aversion to those types of visuals sometimes.

People only "outgrow" Nintendo.

Other consoles are for ADULTS.

When one comes of age and becomes a man, they play videogames somewhere else.

Is this the thread where men come to beat their chest and share how big their dicks are?

"I don't play videogames on Nintendo, I play videogames on another piece of plastic, a more mature piece of plastic!"
At least you aren't upset about it.

I feel like I should sell mine. I loved BoTW and really enjoyed Tropical Freeze and Mario Odyssey. There's been next to nothing since then, Luigi's Mansion was amazing when I was a kid but 3 just didn't click with me. Link's Awakening was pretty decent I guess. Not sure if my tastes have just changed or if I'm not giving enough games a go, e.g I haven't touched Xenoblades or Fire Emblem etc.

I guess another key reason for my dissapointment is the sad state of Pokemon. I've had way more fun playing fan games on my laptop than I have any of the Switch releases.

I bought my switch at launch for animal crossing..

stopped playing animal crossing a few months ago

im holding onto it just becuase got 2 small kids in the house that will want to game in a few years, got a bunch of games on it so I can just give it to them.

I keep mine for the Nintendo Exclusives and the odd game that would work nice in bed before I go to sleep. It works amazingly well as a secondary console, but I wouldn't use it as my primary.

Sole reason I've never had any interest anything Nintendo OP, shits focused mainly for pre teen, embarrassin to watch grown ass dudes rocking this thing outside..i gave it one shot with the WiiU, now its just sitting in the box brand new.
Whereas jumping through city streets in lycra or pew pewing bad guys with a fancy gun is the epitome of adult gaming right?

All videogames are fancy toys designed to help you pass some time, all of them.

This always seems like something people say because they think they're too "grown up" or "mature" for that kind of thing anymore, when in reality, it comes across as the most immature thing to say to me.

I honestly would sell my ps and Xbox way before I sold my switch. I just play it way more and have way better experiences with Nintendo made games.

But I also have limited game time these days so qualify definitely outweighs quantity for me.

C.S. Lewis put it well

"Critics who treat 'adult' as a term of approval, instead of as a merely descriptive term, cannot be adult themselves. To be concerned about being grown up, to admire the grown up because it is grown up, to blush at the suspicion of being childish; these things are the marks of childhood and adolescence. And in childhood and adolescence they are, in moderation, healthy symptoms. Young things ought to want to grow. But to carry on into middle life or even into early manhood this concern about being adult is a mark of really arrested development. When I was ten, I read fairy tales in secret and would have been ashamed if I had been found doing so. Now that I am fifty I read them openly. When I became a man I put away childish things, including the fear of childishness and the desire to be very grown up."

This thread was a lot funnier than I expected. Keep it up!

I could never sell one of my consoles though, too much sentimental value for each. Still have my Game boy Advance even.

You're doing it wrong, that's the problem. You owned a Switch with the idea that you buy Nintendo games on it only, when Switch is the console that breaks this tradition. Nintendo games are the weakest aspect of the Switch, but the third party support is surprisingly good. I own over 100 games for the Switch, and 90% of them are third party or indie.

Sure, some of these games are multiplatform, but the appeal of the Switch is to have some of these games in a portable fashion.
Dunno, i have one and the third party support its indie games and Worse looking ports from other systems, also more expansive, dont see the "Nintendo games are the weaker aspect" that doesnt make sense at all

After the N64 i lost interest in Nintendo. I had 12 years when the N64 came out. I have thought of maybe getting a switch 2 or switch pro if it comes out.

I sold mine last year. I have no interest in Pokemon and Animal crossing, so the past year had nothing to offer me.

The only thing that would bring me back, would be ports of the HD and 3D Zelda games.

Because their output has been abysmal compared to the catalog of IPs at their disposal. They're not leveraging their franchises even close to their potential. We got 1 good Zelda game, a so so Mario game (I just don't find it to be especially challenging or replayable), a shit ton of ports from Wii U so they don't even count as new games, and a other smattering of obvious games like Fire Emblem which is good, but more boring Yoshi and Kirby games. Animal Crossing has been disappointing as hell to me, with all these "updates" this year being content that they just removed from previous games.

Where is something like an EarthBound collection? Did it really take them over 3 years to make a port of Pikmin 3 when in that time a Pikmin 4 could have been made? They have one of their hottest consoles ever, and it just seems like their releases are stagnant as all hell. We had an amazing line up of Virtual Console games on Wii U, only for them to do this piss poor effort with NES and SNES games on the Switch, again not taking advantage of their amazing past library of games. They do nothing by doing this except encouraging people to emulate.

As far as third party goes though, you really are under estimating the benefit of portability for someone busy with work. I legit will take poorer performance if it means I can take it with me out of the house. Can I play Doom on PS4 while I'm at work in the palm of my hands? nope, but my Switch can. May run at lower framerate, but it's still fun as hell. Got a long ass JRPG I wanna play? Do I force myself to only play it at home, or do I take it with me where ever I go? Like I said, you're under estimating how big a deal that is for some people.

It's simple:

You bring shame to your avatar arch nemesis.

Why?

OH I GET IT, ONLY KIDZ LIKE NINTENDO LAWL!!1

Chill a bit.

If you're expecting insightful analysis from the people who literally spend every second on this section of the site, warring over PS and Xbox, you're doing it wrong.

Look towards the users that actually exceed that and regularly offer thoughtful, interesting takes.

I know what you mean but I can't help it. I wish I could go back because I miss being able to love something like Final Fantasy Tactics(one of my favorites). I see it as a flaw. Sorry. I think it happened in my early to mid-20s. To be 14 again.

You should look up FF Tactics Advance /A-2 if you haven't already.

I would sell my Switch but I'm too lazy to do it. It's been collecting dust for 2 years now. I can definitely relate and I think my taste have changed recently.

Not to encourage scalping... but.... right now you could probably sell your Switch for more than you bought it. Demand is crazy at least in my neck of the woods.

Ah yes, the good old "fun is childish" and "real men play interactive movies" thread.

It's particularly entertaining in a time where a single Nintendo game can wipe the floor with 'AAA' gaming, and the system is loved by all age groups in real life, with some impressive success.

Gotta stop having off years where content seems a bit stretched, though. The one thing in here I agree with. Time to take all that money and reinvest it in development houses, partnerships, or even the odd third party exclusive.

I don't get it. I boot mine up and I see titles from Resident Evil, DOOM, Bloodstained, Night Trap, Astral Chain, Zelda, and so forth.

Nintendo has Night Trap on their console in 2020. That's a huge deal if you think about it. There's Metroid Prime, SMT, Babylon's Fall, Bayonetta 3, and other notable series to come out in the future.

"I don't play videogames on Nintendo, I play videogames on another piece of plastic, a more mature piece of plastic!"

Is that why so many console players are 12 years old and rage about which console is the better? 🤷🏻‍♂️

In a console thread its always either Playstation players or Xbox players, rarely or even never Nintendo players.

Edit: just looking at your profile Pic shows I'm right. Either way it seems like your age, whether ita physically or mentally.

Keeping it until Nintendo moves to the next system, but for now, this console has been pretty useless to me. It will probably be sold in the end.

Nintendo as always been a good secondary console for me, but I am spending less time with video-games these days, and I don't need two consoles anymore.

It's a shit system with shit hardware and overpriced shit controllers. If it wasn't for those rehashed games/ideas and Animal crossing, it wouldn't be allowed in my house. Already gone through four sets of Joycons.

Millions fuck with those games, so it it a pretty big deal all things considered.

I mean technically you aren't wrong. The games are still great though despite the bad hardware, and I enjoy my Switch quite a bit.

That being said I've been in the same spot as OP before as I'm technically on my third Switch. Sold my first one because I never touched it, got another down the line because I wanted to give BOTW another chance but sold it to my "girl friend" per say because she desperately wanted one a couple months ago and couldn't find one (I knew she would get enough enjoyment out of it for me to lose it, plus she gave me the full $300 despite asking for $225), and now I have another that I've actually gone back and played a ton of.

OK, I'm selling it. I got it on release day for 300 EUR. I can sell it for pretty much the same amount 3.5 years later. Nice.

Im waiting for a price drop and Metroid Prime 4 before I ever buy one. 3.5 years and still same price, wtf Nintendo. I get its selling great, but this xmas should be a price drop. Next gen will put dent in sales as 3rd party support will dry up as developers will be programming for much stronger hardware.

I also hate paying $50 for 3 year old games. Nintendo hates their consumers lol
