Sold my switch today...

tbh i think it may be the last nintendo console i purchase until i feel compelled to do so again. I have purchased every nintendo system since im a kid and my love and nostalgia for the company is hard to describe. But when i found myself completely unimpressed by odyssey, botw, pokemon, luigis mansion, and paper mario i came to the sad conclusion that my taste may have changed. I feel like the inner child in me has died just a little today. The company has always been geared towards children but never have i felt less challenged by their games and that makes me think maybe ive outgrown them. And how many times will they recycle the same ideas ? As long as they sell so that wont change considering the success. New ip’s maybe ? Probably not. Loved astral chain though thought it was wonderful(third party game). But all in all love you nintendo thanks for the memories ❤️ (Maybe once i see prime 4 i throw all this out the window and re buy the switch who knows)

I put mine on sale too (I could have sold it before, but I'm quite lazy about it). The problem is that my PC is currently playing switch games at better FPS and resolution than my Switch does (except from BoTW, which I play on CEMU, so it doens't matter), so it has been collecting dust for quite a time now. I'm sorry, but I don't see myself playing BoTW2 at 720p and 30FPS. Or God knows how is Metroid Prime going tu run.

I bought my switch in late 2017 with BOTW. I still haven't gotten past the first 30 minutes of it. Didn't finish either of the pokemon games (the remake/new gen) and played Smash ultimate only once or twice. Oddly enough I've spent most of time on the switch playing Overcooked 2 and Stardew valley with my wife, and Football Manager when I have to travel.

I really want to get Paper Mario because I loved TTYD but I'm afraid of buying any switch game as It'll probably go down the same path as the ones I already have. It sucks, I really should put an effort into it, but at the same time I don't feel like it? It's hard to describe, there's a voice in me that really wants to play them and beat them and rekindle that old fire, but whenever I try I just lose my interest quickly or end up browsing the internet instead of booting up my console.

Bruh, stop focusing on games made for children and try something else. Fire Emblem Three Houses is one of the finest games I have ever played in my life. There are plenty of good games on the Switch, but it doesn't matter now since you sold yours. I have exactly 0 mario/zelda games, as those don't interest me in the slightest, and I am very happy with my Switch.

Oddly enough I've spent most of time on the switch playing Overcooked 2 and Stardew valley with my wife, and Football Manager when I have to travel.

Overcooked!2 is legendary. If I didn't have it on my PS4 I would have 100% bought it for the Switch. And Football Manager is a classic, you can't go wrong with that one.

It was gathering dust until Animal Crossing came out. And right now I'm busy with Paper Mario. I do not own games for the Switch, though.

You're doing it wrong, that's the problem. You owned a Switch with the idea that you buy Nintendo games on it only, when Switch is the console that breaks this tradition. Nintendo games are the weakest aspect of the Switch, but the third party support is surprisingly good. I own over 100 games for the Switch, and 90% of them are third party or indie.

Sure, some of these games are multiplatform, but the appeal of the Switch is to have some of these games in a portable fashion.

The good thing is it seems really easy to emulate for the future. It's not that common to see flagship console games like BoTW being emulated only a couple years later, far better than its original form. Even mini PCs will be pushing higher than Switch settings for many games, some already are. So you're not missing much.

Congrats!
Had every Nintendo Console and portable from game boy classic (even the printer and the camera lols)

I skip Wii U and switch, I kinda don’t play portables anymore. (Well phones and iPad yes)

I will go back Nintendo when they power up again.

Thinking about it myself to be honest. I predict we're all the Wii stage of the Switch where the system is selling and Nintendo don't care anymore.

I have some backlog: Luigi's Mansion, Xenoblade DE, Paper Mario, Ninjala, then I want to replay some games like Doom. For now no problem for me, but I'm still waitimg Doom Eternal.

Yes, I plan to sell mine too.

The library is good but only if you do not have another main system (PS4 in my case).

I grew up with Nintendo so I do not have a problem to buy a Nintendo system only for Nintendo games. I will keep my Wii forever just to be a Mario Galaxy and Paper Mario TTYD machine.

But Switch 1st party has been meh. And I do not accept the taste change excuse. Nintendo has lost their magic.

I found oldie point and clicks to run pretty well on Switch. E.g. Deponia series.

Switch's portability brings new possibilities.

Other than that, it's a console "for kids" (in my household, that is)

This is how I felt with the WiiU, so I sympathise, but I honestly love the Switch. It's my second favourite handheld after the Vita.

I can total see where someone might be finding the big name titles stale, even Nintendo themselves arw aware of the issue, as evidenced by the fact BOTW is a major shake up to the series (so it's a shame that still didn't grab some people)

As others have said, Switch really shines as a portable gaming device that can hit well above its weight class.

It's the best place to play indies, and for those on the go or having to fit gaming in between adult responsibilities, a god send of convenience.

Add to that the slew of more 'grown up' titles on the system both particularly exclusives like Xenoblade Chronicles 1 and 2, Astral Chain, Fire Emblem 3 Houses, or the slew of 'amazing that they even run' multiplats.

I'm literally sitting in a car park playing Fire Emblem on mine right now as I've got an hour to wait for my wife to be done with something. The Switch is honeslty a god send to me for stuff like this.

Honestly... I'm contemplating it.
My journey is a bit different, as strange as it sounds the Switch was my first ever Nintendo console. I only had PlayStations and whatever was before that (it didn't have a name or was too small to remember the name) but it had cartridges.

When I bought the switch I was amazed. You're telling me I can play this Zelda game that looks amazing anywhere? And all these Indies? and whatever quirky stuff Nintendo comes up with? But that amazement lasted for like a year and I think my gaming habit has changed. I don't really game on the go anymore. I live really close to my workplace so I don't game on commute, and when I'm home I play on PC or main console.

And recently even when I travel I have my laptop with me and sometimes a DS4, I just can't find a spot for it in my gaming life and honestly I feel guilty.

It's okay, just sell your Switch.

While your Nintendo magic may gone apparently it still haven't for millions of others, and more from the next generation.

Looks like making a thread about it is the next big "thing" though.

Nintendo: releases most adult consol they ever made
OP: Its made for children and i think i have outgrown them

There are plenty adult focused games available.
If you didnt like their first pary titles then its just that, and thats fine. But that has nothing to do with outgrowing.

It is so good though. The music is fantastic, the characters are diverse, the story ain't terrible (which is a compliment) and the gameplay is just astounding. The switching between the high-school life and the combat is amazing. Teaching kids who have trouble speaking with their peers how to ride wyverns and use all kinds of savage magic and devastation weapons and seeing them plow through entire battalions...

I would do the same, but I'm too lazy. I also bought every Nintendo console and handheld since the beginning. But after Nintendo 64 I lost interest. I'm not sure if it's an age thing or that Nintendo stalled. I have been frustrated by choices they made for many years though.

I was thinking about maybe giving it to my little brother, but after SMTV and SMTIII Remastered confirmed for 2021, there's no way in hell lol. SMTV was why I got a switch to begin with. Its about damn time.

Oh I agree, I myself put over 300 hours in to the game and loved every minute of it.

I'm happy with mine, but I do think the releases haven't been coming fast enough. And I also wished we got more than just NES / SNES games on the back catalog.

But I'm kind of the opposite of you. I use the portability of the Switch constantly, and take it on every trip, or play a few minutes in bed every other night. And as I get busier as I'm older, I kind of crave polished 1st party games from them even more, not less.

Not sure how anyone could be disappointed with Breath of the Wild and Mario Odyssey either, but I suppose it is theoretically possible, like alternate realities and FTL travel.

But that has nothing to do with outgrowing.

People only "outgrow" Nintendo.

Other consoles are for ADULTS.

When one comes of age and becomes a man, they play videogames somewhere else.

Is this the thread where men come to beat their chest and share how big their dicks are?

"I don't play videogames on Nintendo, I play videogames on another piece of plastic, a more mature piece of plastic!"

It's my favorite piece of hardware in a very long time (maybe since the N64?) but different opinions and all that. Happy you simply accepted that taste changes and maybe a company no longer does it for you. There's plenty of other things out there for everyone.

I had this like 20 years ago with shooters. Used to love them as a teen in the 90's but I can't understand for the life of me how grown ass man can play shit like Call of Duty or Destiny or other crap.

i'm enjoying my switch...when there are games to play.

my Switch is boxed up right now because i don't want to sell it and I want to keep it for upcoming games. we've got BOTW2 coming i'm sure will be worth keeping my Switch for even if that's the only game I buy for it again.

Then there is the possibility of Mario/Zelda remasters/remakes. Pokemon Snap is coming and I'm sure we'll get another main title before Switch is over with. I also want to play Shin Megami Tensei V and Persona 5 Scramble (if it comes out in English)

Get a PS2. Easily the best console from the best generation ever.
And the library is out of this world.
ykno some people will laugh but seriously... i bought myself a PS2 with 23 games just this year. i've been playing it a lot until next gen comes. nothing on switch to play, sold my PS4, and the only games I really play on PC are esports stuff.

It's the value as well.

Nintendo could have easily done a Pokemon and split that game into 3 parts given the way the stories branch off depending upon house choice and the length of each path but they put it all in one. First game in literally decades that I've started a new game and played right through again straight after completing it (Golden Deer, then Blue Lions). Got a totally different story arc and different end boss. So good.
