Sonic 4 Episode 2 leaked on Steam

swear to god; he was talkin' smack about VI and put VIII in like his top spot. i know ya'll roll in the same poke-circles, you can't let this slide man.

I loved Sonic Generations, but everything about Sonic 4 looks terrible to me. I sort of wish Sonic Generations just had a huge slew of DLC acts instead, and a DLC replacement end boss. Marauder Shields was a better end boss than the Sonic Generations boss.

I actually bought FFVIII just so I could objectively speak to it's shittiness to him. Still haven't made my way through the 2nd disk. SHIT SUX.

FF VI > FF XII >>>>>>> everything else >>>>>>> FF VIII

billy if i ever make mod here your tag will read "is a good person"

He smack-talked 6? I can't hate on him for that, otherwise I would be a hypocrite.

oh, a wise guy huh

beefy you better hope i never get that position i just spoke of

6 is still a good game I guess. I just can't stand it. I can now accept that people like it and can see the legacy it left.

Now 4, on the other hand, is a steaming pile of shit that deserves the Panzer Dragoon treatment of losing its source code.

what the
4 was prolly the first FF i really got into, and by early 90s standards it was pretty awesome, so i figure i'm biased, but...really? maybe the DS remake showed it didn't age entirely well, but that's harsh man!

i guess current generation doesnt support blast processing, sonic 4 sense of speed is pathetic.

sonic fan project still looks about 100 times better.

I like it but there's just too much activity. It's hard to tell what Sonic can and can't interact with.

Really creative stuff though. I like his Chemical Plant.

I hope Sonic Team's next big project is an awesome 2D Sonic game modeled after Generations. It felt like a natural evolution of 2D Sonic and I bet it'd make an awesome co-op game with Tails.

VI has best cast.

XII has best world and gameplay.

X has a place in my heart for being my first, but it's only alright.

I don't feel comfortable discussing why I dislike FF4 in this thread since I hate it for spoilery reasons. But yeah, I hate FF4 as much as you love Shenmue.

i had an insight into a future interview with Iizuka-san

"Classic Sonic fans? (laughter) they don't admit the team's innovations, they are very difficult"

edit: edited with grammer to more reflect how he would say such a thing

Watching the credits it looks like the people credited at Sega Shanghai and Tose only have producer/managerial positions. Meanwhile all of the programming and level design were still handled by Dimps.

Also a company called Xeen: Spirit of Wonder! that I can't find anything on did all of the art and animation.

Final fantasy IV isn't really that good now, but it was pretty boss when I was young.

So how is the music in episode two anyways? episode one's music was a tragedy.

Yeah. Where is our Generations DLC? I want to pay them money for new stages and challenges. I guess the guys porting Unleashed over (if you've got it on PC) is the best we'll see for a while. And yeah, the Time Eater or whatever is a horrible boss.

Brace yourself for Tragedy Episode 2.

Eh, what I heard of Episode 2's music (trying not to spoil myself), it sounded better than Episode 1's. More complex melody patterns, so on and so forth. The style of the music kind of reminded me of the Game Gear games, which may or may not be a good thing, I haven't decided.

I just wish they would divorce themselves from the synth instruments.

I do think it hits greater highs than Episode 1 did, but the synth is still terrible and kills a lot of it for me. Then tracks like Oil Desert Act 2 come around and ruin any chance the rest of the soundtrack had for me.
But mostly, I'm just really bitter about that Stardust Speedway remix.

*Come into Sonic thread, see FF talk, see crappy gameplay videos*

While I don't think the game looks all too hot gameplay-wise, I don't get the hate for its sound. I think it really sounds like a continuation of Mega Drive games' music. When I watched some of the videos, my girlfriend, who rarely plays Sonic games, asked if I was playing a new Sonic game right away. I also don't get all the hate Dimps gets around here, their handheld outings are great, they are just not the best choice for a real classic-style Sonic game. At least episode 2 seems to have nice level designs and it looks a bit like Sonic Advence 1.

Senoue hasn't been a particularly good composer for over a decade now, and the synths he's using for Sonic 4 sound nothing like any Genesis game in general, much less any of the Sonic games. It isn't retro, it's just bad. Color's Game Land section pulled off a retro feel much better despite cheating all over the place, and unsurprisingly that was handled by three people who aren't Senoue.

Hahaha holy shit the start of the first Episode Metal stage is so fucking dimps.
The rest of it looks pretty okay though! As far as Sonic 4 goes
EDIT- Actually I think the rest of it is just Sonic 4 Mad Gear act 1.

Looks like Sonic 1-3 to me. But the problem is it looks too much like the original Sonic games.

I struggle to see where you're coming from. For the level design comment, I watched this video last night and it looks like one of the blandest layouts I've ever seen. Boost pad, boost pad, boost pad, spring, spring, boost pad... I think the person playing jumped about five times. Considering how the rest of the level plays out, this checkpoint looks especially silly.

As for the music... whether or not someone likes it is subjective, I suppose, but this does not sound like this to me.

So, if you get all the Red Rings, and all the Chaos Emeralds... nothing changes. Besides getting Super Sonic for all the emeralds, obviously. The thing is that Ken mentioned an extra final boss for getting all the Red Rings, and and if you look at the title cards for the acts, the normal final boss is labeled "The Beginning of the End," so it looks like there is something missing from this version.

However, the game includes a library built on March 14th, so this version isn't that incredibly old. Don't expect big changes between this and the finished product, probably just a few bug fixes like the texture loading issue.

The credits also list Brad Flick and Skyler King, I.E. Sonic Retro people Slingerland and Skyler. They went in initially for a Sonic 4 Episode I feedback session, and ended up "staying in touch," to quote Skyler.

Not even Sonic Retro can stop the innovations of Sonic Team it seems =)

I'd be lying if I said I was not unreasonably jealous right now, especially given what a smug asshole Flick can be.

FFIV's story isn't very good because
sacrifice in that game means nothing
. Its narrative is rendered boring and regrettable when compared to FFII's superior narrative (which, imo, is one of the better FF narratives in the series).

Wait.

Why are we having this conversation in this thread, again?

So how is the music in episode two anyways? episode one's music was a tragedy.
I'm so sorry.

I'm so so so sorry.

We should start a kickstarter to get Senoue better synth samples.

That does not sound like anything the YM2612 would produce. At all. It's faux-retro, and it sounds very poor in comparison to the real thing. If anything, they should just do their own thing rather than try to (badly) emulate how a classic sound is like.

I won't lie, there are a few things I've seen from this episode (pretty much everything lol) that legitimately impressed me, but then there's always those things that make me |:-I

I feel like I'd come out of it feeling better than I did coming out of Episode I, though. I can see myself buying it when it goes on sale
at the same time as Ep. I. Gotta have that Lock-On :x
.

not very happy with what i am seeing ..( and then again i wasn't happy with Sonic 4 episode 1 either )

i do see a decent effort in level design here and there but it seems to lack the not on auto pilot feelign and some moments ..animation seems improved too.... Who know they might release something more for my tastes with episode 3

Can they stop with the speed boosters already ? I can pick momentum by myself just fine or press Down+action if i'm really stuck and need more speed

Edit : the bonus stages are cool

You need to learn to count.

It's simulating a roller coaster for petes sake.

there is nothing wrong with boosters imo. those levels offer a lot of different paths and quite some room for improvement for a flawless run - which is what Sonic is all about imo. And yes, I do love the original Sonics (Not Sonic 4 Ep 1 though, it's slow and boring), too, but I play them exactly like this.

You're right, I worded that poorly. I should have said "about five meaningful jumps that represent actual obstacles in the level." There were several times where the player missed jumps or jumped in place.

Exaggerations to make a point aside, I was just trying to describe how rote and on rails the level's layout looked. The 2D levels in Generations are much denser and more interesting.

random question

but anyone who got this game from STEAM, are you able to launch it through STEAM or is STEAM blocking it?

i don't have a copy of the game at all, but i got a friend who says "IN A NON STEAM GAME" who is playing it
