Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood in new NP

The gameplay stuff mentioned all sounds really great. The story stuff sounds ridiculous... hopefully Bioware won't be taking any of it too seriously. Also, I do think it's disappointing that they're including so many of these Dreamcast and later characters, as I've alwaysbeen content to think of the series as having ceased to exist with the Genesis. Sonic, Tails, and a Kainesque Knuckles alone would've been fine with me.

Also, I like the bit about remixes of classic Sonic music. I'm hoping chemical plant and casino night arein there!

Looking forward to seeing the visuals.

I didn't play Sonic Rush Adventure, but I thought Sonic Rush was shit. Hold right to run through boring looking stages and occasionally press jump or boost. Whee!

I think the Sonic Advance games don't get enough credit. They weren't as good as the Genesis games, but they managed to capture the same style of gameplay pretty well. There were some parts where you ran really fast, but there were also some good platforming parts. And it was fun exploring the same stages with different characters that had different abilities, unlike Rush where the different characters play completely identically.

Emerl was pretty cool especially with all the customization options you have. The main gameplay has potential, but the game itself was WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY too broken. You might as well quit if you're playing anyone using Rouge.

But it's definitely exactly as sexy as one might imagine!

I have been shopping around a script of it for a made-for-tv movie. People say it is interesting, but the way that things are with writers, they just don't want to commit.

I'm starting to think that may be an excuse, though, what with my already having written it...

:lol I think you have yours games mixed up. the Advance games were the hold right feasts. Rush and Adventure actually required you thing other than running

So wait, the Bioware Sonic project only covers the DS? I thought something more "substansial" (I'm not the world's biggest fan of handhelds) was to be released for the stationary consoles.

Damn. Saw "Dark Brotherhood" and hoped this was another Elder Scrolls. :)

But still looking forward to Bioware's first real E for Everyone game.

it had its problems( 2d sprites being able to hide behind 3d obstacles and and poor depth perception) but i think with the ds and the psp, a sequel could work much better

And what about the prolonged lesbian bestiality scene?

It's actually a threesome with Rogue, Blaze, and Amy. And there will be some whips and chains involved.

Shadow also has a special move to curb stomp his enemies.

is there a reason why this thread does not have a scan of the NP magazine cover, while the guys in the resistance 2 thread enjoy their gorgeuos gameinformer magazine cover?

Can I post the cover? If so, I'll put that up. Mods, is that cool?

I'm a little new around these parts, so I honestly didn't know about the no scan thing for English language stuff, so, glad I didn't do anything stupid.

djtiesto

is beloved, despite what anyone might say
Wow, this may be the first Bioware game I actually enjoy :lol (and also the first Sonic I enjoyed in the last 10 years save Rush) Sonic remixes, watercolor graphics, and turn-based battles, nice...

You can post the cover. You can't post anything inside the magazine.

Is there more info in the interviews?

sykoex

Lost all credibility.
It'd be awesome if that made Big the Cat a super useful character and then everyone ended up loving him.

I want Cream in my party.

Okay, as long as it's safe I just posted the cover on the first page. If not, then I guess I took one for the team.

There's also a little blurb about the interview. I wrote:
The interview didn't reveal much about the game. Mostly just a "get to know Bioware" for the Nintendo folk. They did basically say that they wanted everyone to love Big The Cat... so I guess he's going to be important. NP questioned them about Wii development and they basically said "go away" in so little words.

What a waste of good development resources. Who honestly cares for any of the Sonic series characters besides Sonic himself? And do people honestly like Sonic for his personality?

Who's on the team? Who did they interview? And was there any release date? EGM said something like possible spring release couple months ago.

I said "I'll take one for the team" if I were banned for posting something I'm not supposed to.. you know... it's like uhh, a saying and all.

They interviewed the two Doctors, Greg Zeschuk and Ray Muzyka. As for release date, they just say fall.

fly high, yeah, they gave Advance Wars an 8.5.

And they gave Nitrobike a 3.5 (Wow).

Still, doesn't anyone find this odd? An modern-style full-fledged RPG for the DS, arguably the FIRST such game... and it's a Sonic game.

Bioware makes modern-style RPGs?

As long as its good

The fully animated cutscenes worry me since it'd be odd to not use voice work in them.

However, Surfer Girl (Who reported a game called The Dark Brotherhood was being published by Sega, was she the one who revealed it first or was it another site?) says that the game will "feature much text because text is undeniably attractive". Hopefully the characters are 100% mute, 4Kids can screw up even a grunt, they're that bad.

Can you copy exactly what BioWare said about the idea of developing for the Wii?

Sonic Advance
It's a solid Sonic title which reminds me of the original Sonic The Hedgehog game. It's a little on the slow side but it's okay, I approve of this game as a quality Sonic title.

Sonic Advance 2
This is the game where the whole "hold right" thing really came into play but even so it's still a good Sonic game. It was much faster than Sonic Advance though I prefer the original Sonic Advance slightly, once again a good entry in the series.

Sonic Advance 3
This is everything the 3rd entry in a series should be, it takes the the best aspects of the first two games and adds a little of it's own flavour (Tag team) to create the best in the series. The stages are the perfect blend of run fast with platforming elements and overall it's easily the best in the Advance series. In fact it's one of the best Sonic games ever in my opinion.

Sonic Battle
This game turned out better than I thought though I wouldn't call it amazing or anything. It's a Sonic fighting game with some cool ideas but I feel it's the limitations of the GBA that hold it back from being better. Single player story was pretty fun but the best part was a robot called Emerl.
It's basically like create a character except your picking out his moves rather than his visual appearance, I had fun collecting the cards or whatever it was that got you new moves.
Decent game, not a bad one and it's not a shameful title to own in your collection, probably the best Sonic spin off title.

Sonic Rush
An awesome game with an even better soundtrack which plays like a Sonic game turned up to 11. This is your typical 2D Sonic game but has a streamlined level design to allow you to blow through them at amazing speeds. The dual screens are used to give you a bigger view of the action and it works really well, it makes New Super Mario Bros look lazy for having one of the screens just for displaying useless information.
You either like it or hate it, personally I love it and I'm glad it plays differently to the classic/Advance Sonic games.

Sonic Rush Adventure
I wrote a review for this one recently so if you want to check out my opinion head on over to
http://www.destructoid.com/blogs/Xavier/late-review-sonic-rush-adventure-56124.phtml
(Sorry some of the images are missing and I'm not bothered about updating it)

Personally speaking I'm a fan of good Sonic games no matter where or when they came out. I'm not one of the people who believes the only good Sonic games were on MegaDrive/Genesis/Sega CD nor am I one of those new Sonic fans who thinks 3D Sonic games (In particular Sonic Adventure 2) are awesome and Shadow is the best thing to happen to Sonic.
If your a true Sonic fan then these are the games you should already own or have plans to own at some point. Don't get too worked up guys, it's just my opinion.

Sonic The Hedgehog 1/2/3/& Knuckles
Sonic CD
Sonic the Hedgehog Pocket Adventure
Sonic Advance 1/2/3
Sonic Rush/Adventure

My recommendation is if you are looking for good Sonic games these days stick to the stuff that appears on Nintendo handhelds. This Sonic game from Bioware has me worried, the thought of Bioware doing an RPG for the Nintendo DS is great but the fact it's a SONIC based on is my problem with it.
It reminds me of Mario & Sonic At The Olympic Games, that might as well of been Mii At The Olympic Games.

Bioware can have the spin dash as an attack, add in a Green Hill remix and thrown in a storyline involving falling in love with humans (Sonic 2006 style) but I doubt they'll convince me that the addition of the Sonic universe was a good one other than to sell more copies of this game.

Don't worry Sonic I'm still a fan, even if your good games are few & far in between,

Due to the EA deal, I doubt that BioWare would be handling the sequel, if there is one.

They may, or they may not. Nothing's seemingly stopping BioWare from crafting more Mass Effects for the 360 as they see fit, so if they really wanted to, I'm guessing they could do more Sonic.

But personally, I just see this Sonic game as more of a patsy to make BioWare a household name for the DS fanbase. Once the game has outlived its usefulness, BioWare will probably get right to work on doing their own thing.

Cuz after all, in this relationship, it's clearly more of a thing that Sega needed BioWare to craft a solid Sonic game, rather than BioWare really "needing" Sonic to deliver a solid DS game.
