I didn't want to get into this, but I can't let a couple of these claims stand.

Sega's entire design philosophy was centered around making short, fast games. The Genesis hardware itself is a testament to that. They were an arcade company, they made short, wildly replayable games. When Nintendo does dip into arcadey games like Star Fox and F-Zero and Punch-Out, they're pretty short too. But for the most part Nintendo's expertise isn't in that sort of game, so they made longer, slower-paced games (and again, the hardware design reflects this).

You can't just draw direct comparisons between them like that.

Fightin' words.

Also, I really hope the people praising DKC are basing it primarily on 2 and 3. The first one is just plain painful to go through, and I'm not sure how Nintendo ever let it get out the door.

Also, Colors looks pretty damn good. I like the old pinball physics as much as anyone else, but the series does have a few other fun tricks these days.

Bullshit, no one who enjoyed games like sonic or ristar would have simply said 'oh shit, too long, not arcadey, make it short'

The genesis was a great system and yeah, partly because of the arcade nature of it all, but when trying to measure overall quality it's best to do so fairly. Snes had shorter games like megaman X series which were great, and it had rpgs like final fantasy and chrono which were great, sega covered good enough ground with high quality stuff, but ultimately nintendo and rare output better looking, higher quality and longer products that also were filled with excellent gameplay and stand the test of time perfectly.

Honestly, anyone who can't look at super metroid, zelda LTTP, mario world 1/2, mario kart, star fox, DKC series, kirby SS, etc, and say they are in another class all around is just fooling themselves imo.

That said, I love both, but if you had to pick the top 10 snes and top 10 genesis I can't imagine how fair that list would be. I kinda look at the genesis as the console that had 50 great games where as the snes had 20 mind blowing ones and still an ass load of general great games as well, but very few genesis titles could hope to hit the high marks.

And I thought people like Tails
People like to see Tails get crushed or fall into spike pits over and over again.

At least I did.

:lol seriously though, during the 16bit era, everyone near me was pretty much Nintendo. Genesis was awesome...but SNES kinda edged it out (comparing the total library on either) as far as i'm concerned.

Just rewatched the latest trailer. Yeah, this game is going to be rad. Dunno if I'll buy it day one (especially since Sonic games drop it like it's hot, pricewise), but I'll definitely be paying attention to reviews and fan feedback.

I will say that whoever mixes the game sound effects in to these trailers lately really needs to pay more attention. If you really listen to the game sound effects in the latest Sonic Colors trailer, they're either playing at the incorrect speed, cut off abruptly, play at weird volume levels, etc.

Either cut game sound effects out entirely or make sure you do it the right way. It seems to happen a lot, especially in Sonic trailers.

For those of you waiting for Sega to find a way to fuck this game up

http://www.tssznews.com/2010/08/23/sonic-colors-dated-in-japan/

The Nintendo Wii and DS release of the next Sonic will occur November 18th in [Japan]. It won’t be cheap; the Wii release will sell for ¥6,090, or more than $71. The portable edition will retail for ¥5,040, or $59. Both are far above typical domestic price points for Nintendo fare.

If this pricing model is carried over to America... :lol

It probably won't be, but they've done dumber things in the past.

those are usual prices in Japan .

You sure? I've seen Pokemon B/W listed at a MSRP of ¥4,800, and is apparently actually selling for ¥3,927 on Amazon.jp. That's roughly a thousand yen cheaper than what SoJ wants to charge for Sonic Colors on the DS.

Back on topic.

Game looks surprisingly good, albeit one can always be skeptical (with that franchise) until one actually plays it.

Too bad the game is limited to Nintendo platforms though. I guess it fits the demographics, but it sucks for those not part of those demographics. Not buying a Wii/DS for this single game. At least that Sonic racing game was truly multiplatform. Can't win them all.

Sonic Colors is for children. there's only one console (and handheld) for children ;)

a new video from IGN shows off the new level and music. short though :(

ah the disappointment on this one is going to be tasty

I'm expecting a game that averages in the 7-8 territory on the Wii and slightly higher on the DS. On the short and side, even with the unlockables. However, there won't be a ton technically bad about the game, just some camera issues and somewhat floaty controls.

It's gonna hover around 80-83% on Metacritic. I suspect it'll be like 4-5 hours long too.

Looking pretty decent still. Music sounds good, though music is one of the few areas Sega has delivered consistently on for quite a while now, even with the Sonic series (with the exception of Rush). The wisp mechanics might get annoying but well, I got fun out of Sonic Unleashed. Can't see any reason I won't get any out of this yet.

What?! Rush had awesome music! Rush 2 was apparently the one that didn't deliver.

Im hearing Sonic CD style music...how is this possible?

EDIT: Sonic CD fused with 3D blast saturn edition.
More 3D Blast, I'd say.

If there ends up being some game-breaking addition like Werehog I'm going to be very upset.

This game is out in like three months. If theres something like that in there we don't know about, then Im going to have to say Kudos to Sega for finally learning how to keep a secret.

Me too, but I'd have to hand it to them for keeping it under wraps this long.

Edit- Whoah beaten.

We seen 3 levels without anything but powerups. They wouldn't do that to us... Would they?

My girlfriend says "It looks like mario kart" Until I saw the first wisp power, i completely agreed. When I saw it, I said "huh..." and from there it went uphill. Looks promising.

Graphics are awesome! I gotta say this is prolly one of the best looking wii games to date. I think it looks better than Mario Galaxy 2.

Maybe there's some silly time wasting mechanic for unlocking the next planet?

Sonic Team loves to spread their content as thinly as humanly possible
