Sons of Anarchy is back for Season 6 starting Tuesday, September 10th at 10pm on FX. Though it's not one of the more heavily discussed television shows on GAF, in recent years more and more people have been posting about SoA. The show puts up great viewership numbers on FX, and the acting talent is consistently praised by critics. While there have been a number of misteps over the years, the show remains entertaining for many. Created by Kurt Sutter (The Shield), Sons of Anarchy has been compared to The Shield and The Sopranos, as well as being described as "Hamlet on a Harley." With high caliber acting, dark humor, sex, violence, and profanity, this is tv for adults.

FX said:
Sons of Anarchy is an adrenalized drama with darkly comedic undertones that explores a notorious outlaw motorcycle club's (MC) desire to protect its livelihood while ensuring that their simple, sheltered town of Charming, California remains exactly that, charming. The MC must confront threats from drug dealers, corporate developers, and overzealous law officers. Behind the MC's familial lifestyle and legally thriving automotive shop is a ruthless and illegal arms business driven by the seduction of money, power, and blood.

Jackson 'Jax' Teller (Charlie Hunnam) is SAMCRO's new President who must face the consequences of the MC's illicit deeds before they tear the club apart. Gemma Teller-Morrow (Katey Sagal) is Jax's formidable mother. Clarence 'Clay' Morrow (Ron Perlman) is Jax's stepfather, the last of the Original Nine and former President. Dr. Tara Knowles (Maggie Siff) is Jax's old lady and mother of his second son.

Having framed Clay for the murder of Damon Pope, Season Six begins with Jax's leadership uncontested, but his family life suffering from his single-minded pursuit of John Teller's vision. Jax must find a way to keep Tara from going to prison for conspiracy to commit murder while rebuilding his club and breaking from the cycle of violence and greed that ultimately led to his best friend's death.

Joining the cast or guest-starring this season:

We will see more of former U.S. Marshall Lee Toric on FX‘s Sons Of Anarchy. Donal Logue, who introduced the character in the last three episodes of SOA‘s fifth season, will be back in Season 6 for a major arc, reprising the character of Toric, forced into retirement because of his history of violence. Logue and SOA creator Kurt Sutter had talked for years about Logue guesting on the show before the timing finally worked, so it makes sense for Sutter to keep the actor around for a little longer.

Jimmy Smits is set to return to FX‘s flagship drama Sons Of Anarchy, reprising his role as Neron “Nero” Padilla, a former gangbanger whose exit strategy is trumped by his partnership with Jax (Charlie Hunnam). Smits appeared in 12 of the 13 episodes from Anarchy‘s fifth season. He has now signed on to Season 6, which is shaping to be even more intense and volatile.

Sons of Anarchy is pulling Kim Dickens back into the escort biz. The TV vet — who played head whore Joanie Stubbs on HBO’s Deadwood — is joining the FX drama’s upcoming sixth season as
seductive and maternal madame Colette Jane.

Emmy-nominated CCH Pounder will join FX’s Sons of Anarchy for a multi-episode arc. She will play Tyne Patterson,
a San Joaquin County District Attorney who runs head first into the violent biker ways. Pounder will first appear in the second episode of SOA, which will return in the fall.

"Southland's" C. Thomas Howell and "Shameless" star Steve Howey will appear in multiple episodes during Season 6 of "Sons of Anarchy".

Howell will play Frank Eagan,
"an ATF agent with questionable loyalties,"
while Howey will appear as Hopper,
"a hardcore north Vegas member who crosses paths with SAMCRO."

Peter Weller will step out from behind the camera in the upcoming season of Sons of Anarchy. Weller will have a role in the upcoming sixth season of the hit FX biker drama, The Hollywood Reporter has learned exclusively. He'll play
a ruthless ex-cop who is a boss at the Stockton port and has a run-in with the SAMCRO motorcycle club.

hopefully the plot actually moves forward this season

Seems everything from Season 4 is still unsolved. Only there's now more issues.

Forgot this was returning next week.

Looks solid, but can we please get a return of Walton Goggins for another guest appearance?

Variety review:
Lest those “Fifty Shades of Grey” protestors forget Charlie Hunnam’s day job, “Sons of Anarchy” returns, so big and boisterous even the customary episodic length can’t contain it. Each of three previewed episodes runs long, one of the luxuries associated with producing for FX. As for the content, “Sons” remains bleak and grim as ever, as series creator Kurt Sutter plunges into a world of moral decay, where those ostensibly enforcing the law are every bit as nasty as the outlaws. Having resourcefully kept its wheels spinning this long, it’ll be interesting to see where this wild ride winds up.

Sidebar: It's really annoying trying to track down actual SoA news right now because of all the Fifty Shades articles being posted.

I wish FX would reign in Sutter a little bit more. All the episodes running long seems over indulgent. He could use some editing in my opinion.

I cannot wait! And I love the addition of C. Thomas Howell this season...if I can't get him in Southland, I'll take this as a replacement

I'm betting he dies in the season opener.

They don't really have anything to do for him anymore. He served his purpose in S3 and he's just been sticking around doing nothing

Thanks guys! I think I'll need to rewatch S5, kinda forgot where it left off lol

No need to watch it. The fact that you don't even remember where it left off should let you know it was a waste of a season.

Had to be one of the worsts seasons in television history.

Yea...no.

SoA is as good as ever. This show has perhaps the best continuity among scripted shows. Things resonate from one season to the next. Characters don't get amnesia every 13 episodes.

The writers just hit the reset button instead. Sutter is the Russo of television writing.

To answer my own question, Season 6 is on iTunes. 24.99 for standard definition.

Man loving the guest starts damn. Howell, who I really like, is going to be very interesting in his role as he looks the part already. Something about his weaselly face hahaha

Season 4's was incredible.

Yeah that was a pretty good one but there's just something I find off about them. Probably just me. I know I'm kind of tired of Clay sticking around and the whole, "Will he or won't he?" thing with Jax killing him. I mean I love Ron Perlman as an actor but it really seems like Clay should have bowed out last season.

There was only a soft reboot between seasons 3 and 4 due to the time jump. If you think seasons 2, 3, and 5 were "resets" you haven't been paying nearly enough attention.

Yeah, there's just some SWERVE that makes the problems persist rather than getting solved...

WCW 2000-2001 was better scripted than this show

I just finished S5.

(Season 5 finale spoilers)
I was so relieved when Jax didn't kill Tig. I love me some Tig.

Why? He's been a scumbag since S1E1
