Sony Cathedral Shootout CNN *SENSATIONALISM*

I hope they stand up for themselves and tell the Church of England to **** off.

How many church shoot-outs have you seen in movies FFS.

I can think of Painkiller being another game with a church shootout, any more?

I doubt it was based on a real church though, which seems to be the issue. A ton of games have church battles though. I think Call of Duty 2, Indigo Prophecy, and I am sure at one point or another you are in a church in Gears of War.

Timesplitters 2.
Resident Evil 4 (and they WERE human).
Hitman Blood money (taking intel for the next hit from inside the confession box those bastards).

I can understand them suing if Sony modelled the cathedral on the real one without permission or under false pretenses...but yeah really this is just a publicity stunt to get inner manchester gun crime back on the agenda, all you guys writing this off as religious zealots who dont understand are off base i think.

Half Life 2: Lost Coast, I think at least one of Day of Defeat's maps, Resident Evil 4... And there's all kinds of quasi-cathedral structures in fantasy games. I've killed kazillions of creatures in cathedrals in WoW.

I hope Bishop Nige will also be campaigning to withdraw H.G. Wells' popular novel "War of the Worlds" from publication.
Respected author Wells has followed the modern trend of writing "science fiction" and his work of fiction is a vividly real portrayal of London attacked by alien invaders. The story is full of references to real town names and accurate descriptions of locations, as if the writer is trying as hard as possible to create a sense of reality. I'm concerned that the writer decided to stage such scenes in London without asking permission. The book also contains harrowingly explcit scenes of hundreds of Englishmen being burned alive by an alien 'heat ray", and includes a terrifying depiction of Shepperton Church being partially destroyed. In another chapter, The curate from Weybridge describes how his entire village, sunday school and church is utterly wiped out - and on a Sunday! The book is written in an extremely journalistic style and could easily be mistaken by some individuals to be a reported account of real events.
I am also highly offended that Chelmsford, my home town, is mentioned.

I have only read the first page of this thread so sorry if this has been brought up but I just realised that the Chimera are acuatlly humans infectied with a virus :(

MEDIA CORRECT!!!

There is bias, no doubt, and Sony has been the main company for flak. This may not be purely because it is Sony, but it is ridiculous nonetheless. Read this quote, and tell me it is fair(from Comcast news): "The popular new PlayStation 3 game, "Resistance: Fall of Man," shows a virtual shootout between rival gunmen with hundreds of people killed inside the cathedral."

It's ridiculous BS, no two ways about it.

i bet resistance sales go up for june :lol

every pr is good pr...

How did The Da Vinci Code manage to get made?

Honestly...

It must be a really really slow news day...

Interestingly, the Dean of the cathedral in question campaigned against that movie too.

*CNN shows clip of Resistance*

Viewer: HOLY #^%! that looks awesome!

*goes out to buy PS3*

At least I hope that's how it plays out.

It's on Drudge now, too. SEEMS OVER FOR SONY!!!

Hey guys, I just thought of something.

What if they're referring to MP mode. There are some human vs. human modes and there is a level like that too.

Yea, but that wasn't the same level as in the SP.

They're not just people, they're rival gunmen. This is promoting gang violence.

Someone should show them a World War 2 shooter. I swear there's a Church shootout in every single one of them.

pretty much. There are like 2 or 3 maps in Battlefield 1942 that have a church in them...

"During the game, players are asked to assume the role of an army sergeant and win a battle inside a cathedral."

I love how the title of the article and poll makes it sound as though the entire game takes place in the cathedral.

Just for this I hope that Resitance 2 will start out with nuking the Vatican. :P

Either that or sink the whole of Britain. ;)

Well in my opinion, it should say "Should Sony refrain from selling a violent computer game set in a cathedral in Britain?"
Well, that would certainly be less awkward, but there's nothing grammatically incorrect about the question they went with.

Really?
Should Sony withdraw from sale a violent computer game set in cathedral Britain?

I would put

Should Sony recall a violent computer game set in a British cathedral?

Maybe I'm stupid or something????

Disclamer I don't know if cathedral Britain is a real name of a town but if it were wouldn't it be Cathedral Britain?

Could you answer me Segata Sanshiro?

The first thing you bolded is awkward but still correct, the second thing you bolded is a reading mistake on your part. Look at the screenshot. It doesn't say "in cathedral Britain". It says "in a cathedral in Britain". There's nothing wrong with that.

I hope no one's attacking CNN for this. If you actually read the article you'll realize they're just doing their job - reporting on a news event. They even put up a nice little poll (nice until you see the results).

They could have done a bit more research on the game to give a balanced report. "Rival Gunmen"? Don't they fight aliens in that game?

Alright. I would still write it my way though.
