Sony E3 2017 Conference Thread [Over]

Just my opinion but I feel that e3 as a whole has been underwhelming this year. Had a great last few years but it has all felt a bit flat. Don't know why

Everything fell flat.

Sony has the biggest first party devs from the big 3. Thats why Im legit shook this is all they had to show.

I wonder why the didn't put Ni No Kuni 2 gameplay in the show, it's not like they lacked time or had too much stuff to show, what a baffling decision.

Gotta say, as a HUGE History buff, im SUPER depressed seeing these Iron Crosses replacing the Swastika in COD WW2. As good as it looks, i think im gonna stay away. Its like replacing Batman's bat Symbol in INJUSTICE with a Raccoon symbol, would you feel like your fighting the "Batman"?!!! NOPE!!! Hurts as i have waited a LONG LONG time for this, guess im gonna have to wait a bit longer for a fully AUTHENTIC WW2 shooter.

The hell?

What was the point of having a press conference when all they did is show trailers back to back?

There was a little gameplay weaved in there, but it's like they were trying to save money on production costs or something.

I don't even care for all these execs and what not having to go up there just to introduce a clip, but there was nothing tying the show together between clips, no one talking about the games or what is new/different about their games.

I liked Bethesda having the animated "Bethesda Land" theme and Ubisoft did a great job of making it about their developers this year in a way that made me feel like they are passionate about the games they make.

Some good footage of games we already knew about but really middle of the road conference to me,

Agreed, especially the bolded. Never thought I'd miss the talk inbetween the trailers, but it turns out that I do.

They could have probably thrown in some nonsense about sales or something and I'd have been satisfied. This conference felt like it was missing a soul to it.

What an underwhelming conference, maybe worse than Microsoft.

No surprises, re-shown games. Only thing that impressed me was Spider Man.

So far only one conference has been good, and that was Ubisoft.

Obviously all the Capcom and From Software games are on Switch!... It could happen.

Just been a weird E3, I think next year will be another one full of big announcements.

Lol they can't win.

They talk on stage and it pisses people off. They get off stage and it's not human enough.
When did I ever say I was pissed off that they talked on stage? Do you think their games are better showcased in this format, or with developer commentary alongside?

Pretty good conference. No new announced games but everything they showed looked great. Excited for Lost Legacy, Frozen Wilds, God of War, and Spider-Man
funny thing is that they did announce a big new game... in their preshow. supermassive have another game in the same vein as until dawn coming out and it looked really cool. but for some reason sony decided to not show it in the main conference and instead in a preshow that a lot of people didn't get to see. weird choice :/

May have just been to keep the trailer internationally usable.

Completely blown away here. MH, Colossus, Days Gone, Spider-man and people were disappointed? I for one loved this and am glad they didn't announce a bunch of 2025 releases like FF7R.

We all wanted to see things out of nowhere announcements like a new FromSoft game, DMC 5, something from Sucker Punch etc. It was just a predictable show.

Thennnn why don't they focus on the Persona 5s and NieR Automatas of the world? It's not like Sony doesn't have options.

Yeah, exactly. As someone who mostly prefers Japanese games, there wasn't much on my plate, and if I go by this keynote alone there won't be much on my plate in 2018, either. I thought it was very odd that they focused so heavily on western studios after how much hype Japanese games have generated for the PS4 this year.

God of War looked better for me than their last showing, cool trailer.

That's the only game that interested me there.

No indie showcase, no personality, no OS or services announcements and a boring aesthetic.

They'll 'unofficially' cut the price by $50 this xmas sale, like retailers do at xmas, and then yeah the $150 difference is going to be shocking then.

I'd bet on $350 Holiday price with Destiny 2 and CoD bundles. Effectively a $200 price difference. Sony will murder the $500 X1X before it's even released.

People also didn't like to see vr supported, after complaining its was abandoned a couple of months ago. Very negative community.

This also surprised me. People want VR to just magically exist and be successful without the developers showing their games. It won't get bigger and better if it doesn't get any attention.

Great conference. Couldn't top 2016 but that was obvious.
And to think all the things we are left to get: gameplay from Shenmue 3, Death Stranding and The Last of Us part II. Release date for Days Gone (late 2018-early 2019) and Detroit Become Human (2019 title). In the next 3 years, Sony's gonna make so much money:
Only in 2018 we'll get:
-God Of War.
-Spider-Man
-Shadow of the Colossus
-Shenmue 3 (maybe a Shenmue collection before that?)
-Bloodborne 2 possible announce at PSX this year
I believe 2019 will deliver:
-Days Gone
-Detroit Become Human
And 2020...
-Death Stranding
-The Last Of Us part II.

Fucking hell...look at that line up.

We all wanted to see things out of nowhere announcements like a new FromSoft game, DMC 5, something from Sucker Punch etc. It was just a predictable show.

Games that when announced here won't be shown again until 2019 tight before their release. Sounds like fun.

Only surprise announcement s I like are ones that are out of nowhere and only a year away from release.

When did I ever say I was pissed off that they talked on stage? Do you think their games are better showcased in this format, or with developer commentary alongside?

Not you. Literally everyone else, who complained until 2014 or so, about how much Sony would talk on stage in between trailers.

I personally prefer a little commentary and on-stage gameplay. Not just trailers.

Surely Ubi having the best conference (not including a pre-show) is a sign of the apocalypse.
Best conference and they didn't even have Aisha Tyler. And she was almost always the best part of their conferences in past years.

The ball's in Nintendo's court now.

Disappointing. Seemed to me it was all games we knew about or saw before, multiplats, and ports. Unless you count the VR stuff, but I don't really care about PSVR.

Sony's conference was exactly what I predicted. The majority of the show was featuring games that were revealed in last year's Sony conference. There were a couple of reveals, but none of the Sony exclusives had a 2017 release date. Heck Days Gone and Detroit didn't even had a release year. There were plenty of games that I am excited though to play.

Sony's problem was that they just had two E3's with "huge" announcements for games that were too far down the pipeline. Eventually it was going to catch up to them. This year was about reviewing what was already announced. I don't know if development of some of these games are taking longer than expected but it feels like another Holiday season of Sony piggybacking on 3rd parties. This has worked for them this generation so it should be fine again.

As for VR, I personally have no interest in any of it. However I am glad that Sony dedicated some real time for the PS VR. Sony has been spotty in the past with supporting some parts of their ecosystem (looking at the Vita and PS Move). I hope VR is successful because diversity is important with our hobby.

I was surprised that the conference was 99% AAA games. There was no indie real in the main show. No new features for the PS4 or PS+ were announced. There was nothing new to announce as far as PS2 classics or likewise. All of this really surprised me. I expected something new added to PS+ (or maybe I was just hoping).

Overall I give it a C. My main knock would be that they showed mostly 2018 games.

Well they got

Knack II
Uncharted LL
Everybody's Golf
GT Sport
Horizon DLC
+some JP 3rd party
+marketing deals
+VR

for 2017 exclusivity, which is fine. I just hope that SP and From are working on something amazing. I also feel SotC remake is not the best title to remake when there is a Souls vacuum in 2017/18.

So what're we getting for Sony exclusives this year?

Crash Bandicoot N'Sane Trilogy, Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age, Everybody's Golf, Uncharted: The Lost Legacy, Yakuza Kiwami, Ni No Kuni II*, Horizon Zero Dawn: The Frozen Lands, Hidden Agenda, Knack 2 and Gran Turismo Sport are the exclusives for the remainder of 2017.

*console exclusive

Spider-Man honestly looks pretty good, but the fact it has a ton of QTEs is kind of off-putting. Visually it is stunning and the swing mechanic looks really good and fluid... but dem QTEs! :(

As for the rest of the conference, I like how there was minimal talking and almost constant trailers and demos, but as far as wow factor goes, I didn't really see it.

A solid 8. No death stranding (most people don't follow news), no tlou2, no sucker punch, no from software new game, no dreams, no DMC5. Even MH worlds didn't look that impressive. Gow, spiderman, Uncharted: The Lost Legacy& SotC saved the show for me.

If Nintendo lives up to the hype of Odyssey i will give my win to them.

If their spotlight is perfect + the first hour of treehouse announce some cool stuff then yeah. + they got 3 days of 8 hour streams mixed with treehouse and those tournaments.

It's kinda funny now i really thought Sony or even Microsoft would take the throne this year but Nintendo just has to not fuck up the spotlight wich is gonna be a 50/50 case lol.

I really wanted to like Spiderman but the quicktime events and linearity turned me off. Maybe it was just like that for the demo? We'll see. It's very pretty though, I'll give them that.

I don't think Sony's show was bad, they showed a lot, just nothing particularly stand out. I'd put in par with Microsofts. Nothing super exciting, but not Nintendo 2008 tier either. Pretty average overall, maybe a 6/10. God of War looked great, Spiderman looked really disappointing imo (graphically it was fantastic, gameplay wise... eh).

different strokes for different folks

a lot of people would have wanted to see what's the FROMs latest project etc

A console that's only selling to like 20% of consumers is probably not going to do that much murdering. I wouldn't be surprised if they left the price alone -- the whole purpose of a premium SKU is to make a hefty profit margin from enthusiasts.

What does the E3 voucher code for those that went to the theater give? My girlfriend and I left due to audio issues and our theater having obnoxious assholes trying to be comedians.

It's almost like there's a balance between "Trump Press Conference" and "YouTube Playlist".

"When the movie's an hour long you say it's too short, then when it's 3 hours long you say it's too long! There's no winning!"
