Sony E3 2017 Conference Thread [Over]

Kinda a weak conference tbh, but strangely enough if you take Sony's E3 presence as a whole I think it's really good. It's just some weird choices for the actual conference that brings it down for me.

The last thing I'm gonna say on this because it could go back and forth as a argument until dawn.

Did I wanna see more? Of course, who wouldn't. But the majority of games Sony showed I was happy with.

I'm simply not disappointed. And I'm ready for more press conferences with more games being showcased.

I can't wait for Uncharted in two months.

If you combined the pre show and conference Sony did pretty good.

Should have just put the VR stuff and some random garbage in the pre show. Everything else in the conference.

It's very hard to top last year and I'm not understanding why they can't show TLOU2

I felt disappointed after the conference. Lotsa great games, but almost all releasing 2018. Lotsa games we already know, several games strangely missing, no live gameplay other than Spider-Man. (It wasn't actually live, right? ;))

The SOTC remake truly excited me, but apart from that nothing really. :/

Very predictable show, and felt underwhelmed at first. But I think they took criticisms of past years of showing stuff 2-3 years away and just focused on stuff coming in a year.

Glad I fought ni no kuni pre show, should have been in main show.

A strange thing that bothers me - only Shawn Layden talking.

In the past we had all sorts of Sony folks out there. We had developers out there. Other industry people.

This conference just didn't seem needed. They didn't announce anything. They could have just released a 40 minute reel of trailers and saved everyone a lot of time.

I feel like if this wasn't year of dreams part 3 there was going to be disappointment and the seams to be what is happening. It was a really solid show, with mostly great games and some cool announcements but every seems down on it. Sony just raised the bar so high and eventually they weren't going to be able to keep that up and thus all the negativity. For me it was clearly the best conference of what was a good but not great e3.

YOU get a cinematic third-person action-adventure game! And YOU get a cinematic third-person action-adventure game! And YOUUU get a cinematic third-person action-adventure game!!!

Yeah, hang on, why aren't people judging this as a whole?

I really wanted to like Spiderman but the quicktime events and linearity turned me off. Maybe it was just like that for the demo? We'll see. It's very pretty though, I'll give them that.

I hope so. In a game like that you need to have freedom to explore the city, and if we don't have it, I'll be really disappointed.

possibly. picking a more linear scripted demo means less chances of making fuck ups or making your game look janky. it did show a hint of it's openness when spidey started web slinging though, so it looks like they've got that right (although it doesn't look quite as good as spider-man 2 swinging mechanics yet).

That was the best conference of E3!!!!!

Thats not saying much though. Sony's was not that great at all.

Overall, probably one of the weakest E3's I have ever seen overall. Counting everyone. Nintendo can still surprise I suppose. But really fucking mehhh. Ohh well. Next year I guess.

There was a lack of diversity this year. A lot of same old. No megatons or nostalgia titles. CTR or Spyro would've upped this conference a point or two.

EA: D
MS: D+
Bethesda: D+
Ubi: C
Sony: C

Very disappointing E3 so far. Nintendo, What ya got?

I agree with this completely. Seems those conferences that you have a lot of expectations for always disappoint, and those that you have absolutely zero expectations for end up being the best.

Thennnn why don't they focus on the Persona 5s and NieR Automatas of the world? It's not like Sony doesn't have options.

Its really disappointing that they never showed Persona 5 on their stage.

Much less worthy and smaller games were shown on their stage countless times.

Despite it ending kind of abruptly, I really liked this conference, easily the best one this year for me personally. Days Gone, Uncharted, Horizon DLC, God of War, Monster Hunter, Shadow of the Colossus, Spider-Man all look great. Hell they even sold me on COD.

While that's enough for me, I can understand the more reasonable sentiments of disappointment. No From, no Sucker Punch, etc. That sucks and I totally get if that's all you were looking forward to. I guess this year's "megatons" were Monster Hunter and SotC, the latter of which I don't think I've seen many people clamoring for, so I understand if you think that there weren't any really great surprises.

But what I don't get is the reactions to the VR segment. Yeah it was long. And yeah, you might not have a VR headset. I don't have one either. But plenty of people do, and plenty of people care about VR. I always make fun of VR for having no appealing games, and so do lots of others, so it's actually quite pleasing to see so many different interesting ones.

VR is never going to get better if they stop making and showing off games for it, so I don't get why complain about it. If it gets better, that's better for everyone.

If that were the case why show GT Sport in the preshow when it's their only big new 1st party game coming this year that isn't DLC?

Just like NNK should have been.

I'll say the same thing I said in the Microsoft thread.

I'm glad I'm a multi-console owner.

I wasn't disappointed
.
Yeah, same.

I wasn't disappointed by Sony but I'm also just sick of the "who won" culture surrounding E3 so people bashing Sony or people saying it was better than it was is still tiring

Bring back the power point presentations, apparently that's what people are clamoring for.

Take it back to Sony E3 04 huh lol

I never wanna see that shit again. But I do miss Kaz.

And I'll take em all. Love me some CTPAA!!

I'm happy with it, it went by fast but it was packed with stuff to devour over the coming days.

Slightly surprised there isn't a big title to launch around the same time as Xbox One X but maybe they don't feel they need to do that.

But yeah, Sony has already had a great 2017, some really promising stuff for 2018, and hopefully their two biggest hitters in Death Stranding and TLOUP2 for 2019. Well played.

He was very low-energy, which isn't bad if you have megatons, but he wasn't really selling what he was showing.

I was surprised Shu wasn't there. He seems more like the public face of PlayStation these days than anyone else.

I'm getting sick of them at this point. Never finished TLOU. Days Gone is unnecessary with TLOU 2 coming. We need less zombies in gaming.

God of War looked incredible, Spider-Man looked good and SOTC was a nice surprise but overall... yeah sort of disappointing after what they did last year and 2 years ago.

Solid conference for me. MH World, SotC Remake and God of War trailer were the highlights.

Still i am very disappointed that we didn't get a new FF7R trailer. At this point i am not sure if it's coming first to PS4. I can totally seeing Sony dropping the (time?) exclusivity like they did with other projects that were taking much time.

I personally prefer a little commentary and on-stage gameplay. Not just trailers.
I appreciate gameplay demos to showcase titles because it's far too easy to mask the lapses of bad games with CGI trailers that barely showcase anything and then we have crap like The Order getting released and laying an egg.

We seemingly had 3 minutes of Marvel vs. Capcom Infinite with no actual fighting gameplay in this conference. Who the hell thought that was a good idea? Especially when it's clearly falling flat compared to Injustice 2's presentation.
