Sony E3 2017 Conference Thread [Over]

Best conference show so far but that isn't saying much, been a very weak e3 so far. I expect the same for Nintendo, seems nobody wants to steal the limelight this year.

Not a terrible show, but genuinely underwhelming. The lack of 2017 software from both hardware publishers (Forzza 7 & A phoned-in Crackdown 3 from MS, Uncharted DLC and MAYBE GT from Sony) really cut in here.

Comparatively, EA, Bethesda, and Ubisoft picked up a lot of slack. Evil Within & Wolfenstein look stellar.

I thought the conference was OK, hard not to compare it to previous E3's which brought so much more drama. God of War and Spider-Man are looking great.

Unusually poor conference for Sony. Really short, though not much fluff at least. Everything they showed looked good and I'm pleased they're still pushing VR, but other than that not really much to get excited about that I wasn't excited about before.

Sony didn't need to have a good conference, but still, that was quite disappointing.

Microsoft won, right?

I seriously don't understand such comments, I can accept Ubi winning but MS? they had a terrible conf, they hardly have any AAA exclusive how can they win?

Seriously I thought you need an exclusive line up at least to "win".

That was very disappointing to be honest. 90% of what was shown isn't out this year. Where was GT?

This is actually a genuine complaint. Not much was for holidays.

2016 E3 called, Sony they want credit for all the content...

I can't believe how much this conference was,

"Hey you know the games we announced at last E3? They are coming out next year."

I commented for the MS conference that they showed lots of games that I'd like to play, but they didn't really sell the reason to play them on MS hardware. Sony's conference did go heavy on the exclusives. Indeed, I'm sort of treating the MS conference as a multiplatform conference in a number of ways.

On the other hand, though, I think Moss was perhaps the only new reveal that made me sit up and take notice, something about that really appealed to me.

I do have to admit, while I can understand it frustrating people who haven't bought into VR, I was somewhat nervous that it'd be quietly sidelined this year (leading to fears about lack of confidence in the medium), so I was pleasantly surprised with how much commitment they showed to it.

Moss looks great. I wish that was a AAA game instead of days gone, etc.

The Horizon dlc was the most exciting thing for me. I was hoping for one or two more surprises. Most everything else was fine, but I wasn't excited really. The Shadow of the Colossus thing was pretty sweet, but the stream basically died the entire trailer so it was hard to get excited about it in the moment.

I dunno, I've been very cool on this entire show so far. I don't expect any surprises from Nintendo at this point.

The whole show has been a bit of a let down.

Shadow of the colossus and Monster Hunter are pretty rad announcements, overall a lesser showing than the last few years but i still felt it was very strong. Hard to live up to 15/16, but still superb.

I feel like this is the conference where Sony's early announcements came back to bite them in the ass. They've shown so many games 2-3 years in advance that now that the gen seems to be winding down, they don't have much left up their sleeve. GOW, Spiderman, and Days Gone didn't need to be announced last year, Last of Us 2 didn't need to be at PSX... But they announced them then because well, what else would they have announced that wasn't already? Also surprised there wasn't more third-party stuff to make up for it.

Maybe this was an off-year and they're going to gear up for shorter announcement windows in the future, I dunno. But uh, as far as a look into the near future goes, that was pretty myopic.

Well I will say that at least Nintendo is focusing on 2017. Smart move IMHO.

Most of everything Sony showed is at least 6 months away. I really like God of War, however not sure how I feel about the difference in play style compared to 1-3. Looks great so far though.

Overall a very boring E3. Where the hell is Dead Island 2? No Shenmue 3, no Shenmue HD announcement, almost nothing from Microsoft to support the Xbox One X, Crackdown 3 looks terrible. A huge letdown. So much 2018. Nothing about EA's other Star Wars projects.

I don't know why you wouldn't put that GT Sport trailer at the press conference. Or Ni No Kuni,

This thing could have easily been 2 hours.

Why so short?

Baffling.

This is truly the year of QTE cinematic corridor games.

The pre-show had a good half dozen games I will buy, then the conference didn't have a single game I have an ounce of interest in playing.

Worst Sony conference, for me, in many, many years.

Not a single indie game either.....

What is this, a Nintendo Direct?
Maybe instead of doing these large conferences 3 or 4 times a year when all you've got is a bunch of trailers, they should just adopt the Nintendo Direct format and deliver trailers and info direct to gamers when they're ready.

Eh, exclusives don't make or break a conference, they showed tons of games.

That's a little disingenuous. Sony showed a lot of stuff that you can only play on their hardware. MS showed a lot more games that you can play anywhere, albeit some of them timed exclusive. The takeaway is that no matter which is your console of choice, their is a large selection of games in the pipeline.

Man, that was a bit underwhelming. Not much new beyond a SotC remake, which is neat and I'll buy but lacked that wow factor from previous E3. And then a bunch of games we already knew were coming and didn't need more convincing to buy. Kinda bummed Spiderman is 2018...

basically sony's e3 2017 was sony's E3 2016..they mostly shown the same games that were nowhere near completion last year

Jesus I can't see how people think it was a terrible conference. Wtf, are we that spoiled now, are people forgetting shit like E3 2006 and others. They simply didn't have big shit to show but I doubt it's their fault. If they could show it they probably would. But the conference itself was great, games after game with some dope ass performances.

Fucking depressing man.

Was Monster Hunter the only major new announcement? it didn't even look that hot.

Even 2014 was kinda better because of Bloodborne.

Wow. Amazing conference...everybody else take notes! Game after game after game, no useless talking and cringe shit...
Uncharted Lost Legacy keeps looking great, trailer implied many set pieces.
Horizon's DLC looks fantastic.
SoTC - looks amazing!
Days Gone actually looks good! Changed my opinion from last year.
Monster Hunter 5 isn't exactly my cup of tea.
COD, Destiny 2, VR and MvC were bathroom breaks
God of War, Detroit and Spiderman all look absolutely phenomenal.
I really hope you're being sarcastic lool

That was probably the worst E3 conference I've ever seen. All this talk about "focusing on the games" but all we got was very short glimpses of ACTUAL GAMEPLAY and a bunch of CG trailers and QTE button mashers.

Really disappointed. At least Microsoft showed some gameplay.

Hoping Nintendo delivers with some great Mario Odyssey gameplay and some surprises.

The ending reel of Sony's conference really showed how little they presented tonight. God of War, Spider Man, God of War, Detroit CG excerpt, God of War.

So disappointing.

That was a huge disappointment in terms of new announcements. They spent way too much time on VR.

The only consolation I have is that theres a lot of games this year which should tide me till PSX or next E3

Imagine actually thinking that this was an "epic fail." Truly amazing.

Games are so incredibly entitled. Not every year can have 5 different bombs dropped. This was a very good conference that showed off a number of great-looking games.

You just can't have every year be like they've had the past two years.

.

People are complaining about the QTE helicopter take down sequence. How would they have done it other than using QTE?

It's basically what Metal Gear Rising did with their QTE sequences.

For me I actually enjoyed EA's most because of Game of Show (aka A Way Out) being shown there (*wink*) but I think Microsoft's wins out in terms of weightiness this year. As a whole, without any real megaton from Sony or Nintendo or whatever this fell kinda flat. *shrugs* Probably the result of an awkward middle-gen period, in a gen where AAA releases take quite the strain of development to make -- they don't have much to show at this point.

EDIT: Not implying that Nintendo's won't be amazing, but I ain't going to shoot for the moon for this stretch. :P
