Sony E3 2017 Conference Thread [Over]

Really subpar conference, short and nothing really new or unexpected. I assumed it was only halfway over when it ended. And then to end on Spider-Man rather than something like TLOU2? meh.

This E3 has been mediocre so far, hopefully there's a blowout on Mario Odyssey tomorrow cause that's all I'm really looking forward to for this year. The few MS/Sony games that look interesting are 2018.

Virtually no new announcements from WWS at E3.

Rather shocking, to be honest.

Weak conference, relative to their other ones this gen.

Sony didn't bring the hype whatsoever.

6/10

It was a fine showing imo. Still a very SP focused press conference, but I missed some new announcements.

Days gone looked very generic, I don't see how this game can become a huge hit.
And still no release date for Detroid...

Ptetty much me after wasting my time streaming this at work:

You're an anime?

Decent show, wasn't expecting much because of games that were already announced. What first party studio doesn't have a game know right now? Suckerpunch and that's it right. Sony beat out Microsoft for me cause they offered me compelling reasons to play on their console with actual exclusive games and I didn't hear the word "exclusive" about 22 fucking times.

God of War looked great, can't wait to play that.

Spider-Man was an absolute delight to see, disappointed in the 2018, would have been the perfect game for this fall.

Jesus I can't see how people think it was a terrible conference. Wtf, are we that spoiled now, are people forgetting shit like E3 2006 and others. They simply didn't have big shit to show but I doubt it's their fault. If they could show it they probably would. But the conference itself was great, games after game with some dope ass performances.

People overhyped themselves.

I'm as averse to modern quasi-cinematic spectacle AAA design as anybody, but Spider-Man looked quite appealing as an Arkham clone with a slick, dynamic move set. It actually looked like a game, something I felt was missing from most of what was shown. The QTE segment late in the demo reel, not so much, but in a showing like this we don't get to experience any of branching or fail states (if applicable) that could make it more interactive.

Other than that, however, as someone who is decidedly not in Sony's core demographic, I definitely got the sense they were doubling down on the audience that is (and how successful they were at doing that, it's not my place to guess), without much to offer anyone who isn't on board already. To put it another way, Sony might be kicking Microsoft all around the block when it comes to big exclusives, but Microsoft was at least branching out with the likes of Cuphead and Ori, which interest me far more than any of their core IPs.

VR, meanwhile, just looks like a tech-demo wasteland. Perhaps videos don't do VR justice (I'm sure VR optimists would say), but looking at the footage that was shown in the PSVR segment, I just don't see what the interface adds or what new possibilities for design are being explored in the software.

Uhhhhhh?

Microsoft
Lucky the Fox (lol)
Sea of Thieves (PC)
Crackdown (PC)
Forza7 (PC)
Cuphead (PC)

Sony
God of War
Days gone By
Shadow of the Collosus
Uncharted Stand Alone
Spiderman
Detroit

People saying Microsoft's conference was better are straight up trolling.

Don't forget 'Hidden Agendas', that was game of the show for me.

I missed:

Sucker Punch
From Software (Demon's souls Remaster, Bloodborne 2)
TLoU2
GT Sport
Some (real) Final Fantasy
DMC5

So plenty of powder left for next year, together with a possible PS5 tease it could be amazing.

First time in a long time I've been disappointed by a Sony conference. I understand that there isn't a limitless pool of unannounced games so it's okay to show previously announced games, but at least focus on showing gameplay. At least give a release date.

I do appreciate how Sony is the only one that seems to be pushing single player games, but looking back Ubisoft was the only good conference this year, everything else has been underwhelming.

Hopefully at least Nintendo puts on a good show tomorrow.

I wonder if Sony splitting their content between PSX and E3 is an issue.

I imagine TLoU2 and Sucker Punch's new IP will be at PSX this December.

Disappointed at nothing surprising (SotC was really sweet but it's an old already ported to PS3 game so the "wow" factor was long gone unlike Crash).

Everything else was what I already knew was coming (GoW, Horizon DLC, Uncharted), so it felt like an unecessary conference.

Also I really wanted a release date for Detroit so it hurts :(

Anyway, the games themselves are very, very exciting! I'm merely judging the conference after I felt Ubisoft beat everyone else.

Still loving Sony's game output and VR projects more than the competition, so rock on, 2017 and 2018 looking good!

Best: Most surprising news was Undertale PS4/PSVita and that was pre-show. Why?

+SOTC Remake megaton
+Spiderman has Spider-Man 2 vibes
+God of War continues to impress
+Days Gone looking better and better
+VR Support is GREAT
+ Pre-Show had awesome content

-Next to no new announcements

It was an awesome conference, not quite like previous years but full of updated content.

The vibe I got from this conference was really weird. Somebody here described it as low energy and I think that's the perfect description. No hype from the audience, awkward transitions and then a terrible, insecure and underwhelming ending. Man...

I kind of have a hard time rating the conference properly because the stream kept stuttering/rollbacking on me. It was extremely distracting. Couple that with some poor presentation decisions (let's focus the camera on a sideways angle of the screen instead of just showing what's on the screen) and hiccups (no sound on the Uncharted trailer; I missed the entirety of the Horizon footage trying to figure out if it was a problem on my end) and it's just hard to get a proper bead on things.

At least the games themselves looked good, though some of the trailers seemed weirdly cut together.

I do think that having the stuff that was shown in the pre-show instead of the VR block would have gotten a much better reaction. Crash and Undertale especially.

I'm surprised at the lack of battlefront considering PlayStation is supposed to be the home of Star Wars at the moment, not even a mention.

everything except supermassive's game looked pretty derivative

i'll pick up spider-man because spider-man

c'mon nintendo give me something good tmrw

Good but disappointing. It lacked new announcements but their exclusive line-up continues to impress. All of them looked better than last year.

PSX is going to be lit.

My one question from this year's Sony E3:

Why snuff the Japanese games? Last two years they prominently featured games from Level 5, Square Enix, Capcom, Bamco, Atlus, Sega, etc

This year? Capcom showed up and everyone else was snuffed out. We should have seen gameplay from Level 5's game, Sega games(Yakuza? Sonic?), Bamco(Ace Combat?) and more. Are they saving the big JP titles/gameplay for TGS this time?

This was by far the oddest Sony conference in a while. Did the western audience take a survey last year where the result was to show less JP games? I don't get it. Also on a small note, is Sony no longer featuring high profile indie games ever since the No Man's Sky fiasco?

Weak E3, but this is what happens when the entire year has an incredibly strong lineup rather than just packing the Holiday season as in years past.

The Funny part is. Sony had 3 shows!

- Microsoft for the third party Games
- Pre-show for the indies, Vr and some new announcements
- E3 showcase for the blockbusters

This was Sony's worst e3 conference in years. I've been pretty underwhelmed by this e3 in general.

Here's hoping Nintendo can salvage it
