Sony E3 2017 Conference Thread [Over]

I think what they showed was good but what was disappointing for me is that most of those games are coming in 2018 and Detroit didn't even get a date. It seems like Sony are hedging most of their bets for the rest of the year on two standalone expansions (Uncharted and Horizon) and third party games. Maybe I'm being harsh because they have had a really strong start to year I just hoped either God of War or Spiderman would come out this year.

The criteria to impress is a very narrow scenario that's unlikely to happen that often when you think about it, and you're never going to please everyone.

People like new surprises, but they don't like them announced with CG trailers, or too far in advance, then they get tired of them the next E3.

People like leaks from insiders and hints of that's coming, but they also like getting shocked, both are not going to happen.

I actually liked Microsoft's conference--no matter how bloated all the talk was. Sony's made me... indifferent? Felt just like a Super E3 2016 Remix with varying degrees of questionable looking VR games. I couldn't with Spider-Man though. I'm glad they showed actual gameplay...... every 30 seconds in-between interactive cutscenes.

omg, I didn't even realize they didn't even have a new teaser for The Last of Us 2.

Crash Bandicoot N'Sane Trilogy, Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age, Everybody's Golf, Uncharted: The Lost Legacy, Yakuza Kiwami, Ni No Kuni II*, Horizon Zero Dawn: The Frozen Lands and Hidden Agenda, Knack 2 and Gran Turismo Sport are the exclusives for the remainder of 2017.

*console exclusive

Bump

Honestly, this year felt very status quo for Sony and MS. Nintendo going to have a good showing I'm thinking.

Uhhhhhh?

Microsoft
Lucky the Fox (lol)
Sea of Thieves (PC)
Crackdown (PC)
Forza7 (PC)
Cuphead (PC)

Sony
God of War
Days gone By
Shadow of the Collosus
Uncharted Stand Alone
Spiderman
Detroit

People saying Microsoft's conference was better are straight up trolling.

If you're going to start doing list wars, at least try to make sure your list is accurate.

I take it some people complaining about titles like Matterfall, Everybodys Golf, Ni No Kuni, GT Sport, etc not being shown didnt watch the preshow?

I think sony's biggest competition was themselves. They set the bar too high the past few years. Disappointed we didn't get to see FROM but I'd rather they take their time.

I don't get the hate.. However, you'll be playing most of those MS games in 2017.

I look at my PS4 and I'm not sure what I'll be playing outside of GT Sport in 2017.

Are we forgetting how stacked the first 6 months of this year was? don't get me wrong I thought the conference was their worst in 5 years, but the complaint in not having anything to play in fall is bonkers considering how dense it (always) is in terms of 3rd party.

I'm surprised to see Gaf so collectively down on this. Didn't you guys vote Uncharted 4 to be goty last year? This was all basically on the same wavelength.

I didn't. I really dont care for that style of highly scripted, single path, cinematic qte style game. Sadly that seemed to be the only kind of game that Sony has any interest in making these days. :(

Bethesda announced several games I'm interested in that are all coming out this year. That's a win in my book.

Fair enough. It honestly bored me to death and I really liked a couple of the announcements tonight so different strokes I guess.

I appreciated Bethesda for only showing what we have this year but at the same time I really wanted to know what to expect after 2017 too.

All good though, overall a lot of games announced this E3.
PlayStation itself will have PSX probably and other conferences to show more games.

Yeah, they didn't announce Horizon DLC, Moss, SOTC remake, Monster Hunter, release dates etc. LOL It's fine to say it was underwhelming but this is pure hyperbole.

DLC? I'm not impressed with dlc for a game I don't care about. SOTC and Monster Hunter. sure. Release dates for games we knew about? what fun.

Stream was also horrible

bwahaha

Like nothing Sony showed even looked good besides Monster Hunter, Call of Duty, God of War, and Spiderman. And they didn't even do live demos of them. Just awful.

A solid 8.5/10 conference for me. Way too short. And certainly not good enough to get rid of the feeling that this is an underwhelming E3.

Sony needed the Sucker Punch announcement. God of War & Spiderman looked fantastic. SotC was legit a fucking megaton for me. The VR segment was 1 game too long. They should've made some of the pre-show in the main conference itself.

Definitely much weaker than past years, but still my favorite conference in a sea of weak conferences. Hopefully Nintendo changes that tomorrow.

I could stick with the general ranking and reasoning. I think I'd give the conference about an 8. It was good and I liked it, but it didn't really floor me overall. I thought the pre-show was ridiculously strong, as you said and think it could have bridged the other announcements during the conference. The lesser brand new game announcements were balanced by the fact that the footage on some of the big projects like God of War and Spider-Man were really enjoyable!

I don't have too much faith that Nintendo will do much, much better but I want some Mario Odyssey!

Great keynote. Purely to see more of the games we knew about. wanted a suckerpunch ending, but the spiderman one was amazing. Maybe they're holding it back for one of the other shows.

Some great VR stuff coming. Which was a pleasent surprise. And a real remake of shadow of the colossus got me more excited than it probably should have.

But honestly, days gone blew me away, god of war blew me away, spiderman, uncharted, destroit....i want 'em all. And all seemed like stuff coming in the next year or so.

I mean, as exciting as FF7 and shenmue announcements are...they're so far off they're hard to care about. It's a pretty hollow promise. Seeing the stuff we'll be playing between now and the end of 2018 excited me way more.

Still pretty fun all around. Never did play SotC so that will be nice to get through. I think this edges out Microsofts but I hope I'm not biased.

Your MS list is missing some games there pal

I watched Microsofts and Sony's conference and honestly, both were fucking shit. Microsoft has no content of note and a lot of what Sony showed off was from last year, with hardly any extension.

-Dreams, MM have done fucked up if they can't figure out what's going on with that, I'm genuinely concerned they can't make a game out of that.
-SOTC was awesome
-God of War pissed me off initally, no huge monsters but cooled down and realised it's actually very very cool.
-Fuck Spiderman, what a waste of Insomniacs time but they decided to go ahead with it, made it into a fucking QTE game that would make Ryse blush.
-Monster Hunter looks like someone at Capcom decided to not go McDonalds that day and gave that $10 to make a game.
-VR was good because I went for a nice long shit in that time.
-Days Gone looked okay, but as soon as they showed that i knew TLOU2 was going to be a miss because it has a lot of similarities with TLOU
-Detroit looked like a great laugh
-MAN OH MAN, Sucker Punch where the fuck you guys at?

What a letdown, really felt like Sony did not try this E3. I actually do get where people are coming from with the trailer after trailer issue, I had that problem myself. I don't care for a person to be physically up there playing the game but I think Spiderman was the only game which showed 'gameplay'.

NNK2 and GT Sport this year though, that makes me happy.

Edit - The drugged audience was also one thing, but the fucking camera director constantly showing their faces was the worst shit ever. It's like Sony pick from tramp up from the street and tell them to do the camera work in return for a happy meal.

All the shows were just OK. I expect Nintendo to be mostly what we already know is coming as well.

E3 is going to be dead in a few years and everyone will just have their own shows and events

Nintendo: all their directs

Sony: TGS and PSX

Microsoft: I dunno. They can figure it out. They're smart-ish

Well well well. I can't help but feel underwhelmed. I could tell something was up when Uncharted was the opener again, and it seemed that it carried on to the rest. Outside of SotC (2018 is incredibly disappointing) nothing enthused me as much as Death Stranding or Spiderman did last year.

As for games. If I don't mention just assume I don't care:
- Uncharted is a budget expandalone so of course I'm buying, does look good though
- I need to start playing Horizon before caring about DLC
- Days Gone has completely failed to sell me on it
- I'm more interested in MH for the business implications than the game itself
- SotC looks amazing but... again... 2018, I'm getting Wolfenstein this year and that isn't a souped up remaster!
- I need to own a VR device to care about VR, nothing there really excited though
- Final Fishing XV on stage when Hidden Agenda was not... OK?
- CoD is CoD, I'll buy it and regret buying it a few weeks after
- God of War has sold me, but I'm not "hyped", just intrigued
- Detroit just looks awful in the writing department; I just can't get around it all.
- Spiderman looks like a well-done Spiderman game but I need to see unscripted gameplay

Overall, I'd give it a 6/10 which is the same as Bethesda's. The majority of Bethesda's presentation was highly mediocre but Evil Within 2 and Wolfenstein 2 saved it, the majority of Sony's presentaiton was better than mediocre and SotC wasn't enough to save it. Also going to retroactively bump up my MS score to 6/10.

Also, the gimmicky presentation really didn't work well this year. The music in the beginning was nice but it just felt like they had it because they felt they needed it. Stuff like zombies hanging from the ceiling and random fire spurts for Monster Hunter is just... OK?

Second bingo filled in and I've yet to actually get a bingo! Counted the pre-show which is why the Vita box is crossed.

Am I crazy or should've some of the stuff in their pre-show been in their main conference?

Like I feel their pre-show actually had some pretty big announcements.

Oh yay the list Wars have arrived

We already knew about most of this stuff and still didn't see tlou2. shadow of the collossus is great, but they just remastered it on the PS3.

Kind of flat really.

I've burnt through those offerings already... Name it, I've played and beaten it (with the exception of Gravity Rush 2 and Yakuza 0 which I bailed on)
Not saying there aren't any games, but the rest of the year looks bleak by my tastes.

Didn't wanna believe it, But Sony also doing PSX every year may just be hurting there e3 show, The fact it was only one hour long was the real shock for me

Could have opened with GT Sport with that awesome soundtrack. Some games from the pre-show could have been included too, like Ni No Kuni, Undertale, and Play Link.

I think Sony was trying too hard to be fancy.
