Sony E3 2017 Conference Thread [Over]

Man today followups to 2 of my favorite games of ALL TIME: SoTC and Monster Hunter were announced!

So at least for me I got more than I expected. 10/10

Also GoW and Spidy look fantastic.

Honest question - Why do people dislike Days Gone? I think it looks great! Like open world Uncharted :)

Other than that I though the conference was just OK. Although this is the first Spiderman game ever I actually care about. If it's open world and looks/plays like that it will be amazing!

The zombie thing has just so been beaten to death. Having said that, it still does look good to me.

Really annoying for people to say VR is DOA before it cones out and then be mad at it still get stage presence support just half a year later.

Fuck off, shit is here to stay and this is how VR gets better.

Went from "PSVR has no games!" to "Stop showing PSVR games!"

I'm going with 6/10 for this one. It's obvious that Sony having multiple conferences a year + two huge E3s with crazy announcements has caught up to them. And that's okay I guess. They can't drop crazy bombs every year. They were going to have to have an off-year eventually and this was it.

God of War, Detroit, Horizon DLC, and SotC all look great. Still not 100% sold on Days Gone. I'll just have to wait and see on that one.

Spiderman... I really want this game to be good. Graphically it's stunning, and the combat looks alright, it's in line with previous Spiderman games, but those QTEs. I really hope they aren't as excessive in the full game as they were in that demo. Web-swinging looks good for the most part, but they need to improve the momentum. Something looks off about it.

Don't forget that Sony also tends to announce games during other events besides E3.

TLoU 2 will be the big PSX game and will overshadow everything else. With such a lackluster show new announcement wise, if the SP game is on track to make late '18/early '19 this would have been the best place for it.

Sony and Microsoft are still fighting over that 20% of consumers though. Sony might leave the price at $400, but after a full year out, they can afford to drop the price by $50 if they want.

The point being that they are already $100 less than their closest competitor. They have almost zero reason to give away money with a price cut, espeically as market leader. Chopping another $50 off the price won't increase sales enough to offset the lost profit/revenue, and it won't give you that much more of a competitive advantage.

How Nintendo Won this year

I'd rate this conference a D. I'm starting to get very weary on the hype vs the realistic timeline of the games shown. If they did a 5 minute conference on release dates I would have been happier. I just want FF:Re. :(

I feel like every year people say that it's the worst E3 EVER!!! :)

I thought it's good. It's almost impossible to keep secrets these days and things get announced throughout the year. Sony even has one more huge event where they do it. And things that we expect to look good still look pretty good. And some look better than expected (in my case it'd Wolfenstein and Spiderman).

So reading the comments that have come after the show finished, the pre-show had some decent content that's worth watching (and arguably should have been in the conference proper)?

Will check it out tomorrow.

Days Gone just didn't look like it did anything interesting.

Also, an open world Uncharted game doesn't sound interesting to me at all either, so take that for what it is when considering what I said about Days Gone.

I would have liked to see SP's thing in particular. Unless it's in dev hell, it has to be almost finished, right? Their fellow first party launch devs (Guerrilla, Knack folks) have already/are releasing soon their new stuff. Really wondering what's going on over there. Will SS be their only PS4 game?

VR segment was excellent, but Superhot should have been saved for the show proper. Very happy with shown support though.

Sucker Punch doesn't have two teams making games. Guerrilla does.

I still expect to see what they've got this year PSX it is I guess. Releasing 2019.

Guys seriously though, after watching that trailer (with sound and stuff this time) Uncharted looks pretty damn good for an expansion. I will place my faith in you ND!! Redeem your post-4 legacy..!!

Well shit...

I generally like third person action adventure games, but Sony has really flooded that market.
It wouldn't be so bad if all of these studios were able to live up to the bar set by Naughty Dog but they often fall flat and Naughty Dog themselves have the unenviable task of trying to live up to their own legacy.

Makes me appreciate what a developer like Supermassive pulled off with Until Dawn in terms of identifying a clear specialty niche in the narrative-driven adventure space and really nailing it.

The new game by the Until Dawn folks looked really good, and Superhot should have been in the VR segment.

EA - D+
Microsoft - C+
Bethesda - C-
Ubisoft - B+
Sony - B+

I'm being generous with Sony because of Shadow of the Colossus (see my avatar) but I have Ubisoft as the best press conference so far this year.

I'm starting to think that people saying this was a bad conference are just shit posting. Because GoW, Spider-Man, Uncharted and Cod looked leagues better than anything at the other conferences. Outside of Wolfenstein.

The zombie thing has just so been beaten to death. Having said that, it still does look good to me.

I almost felt the same way when I first saw the game last year. But that feeling went away once hundreds of zombies started pouring into windows and doorways like a waterfall. Then I realized this was different enough in an interesting way. I could be wrong but I don't think any other zombie video game has depicted them doing things like this. Yes, there are games with lots of zombies like Dead Rising or hordes in L4D, but the way they moved and poured into environments in Days Gone just felt like a step above the rest.

About as "safe" a conference as I've seen from Sony. Nothing really new or unknown, they just went with showing off the big guns that we've already seen. This E3, even with a new console being shown off, was really tame on most fronts this year.

I don't know what I was expecting, I guess I just hoped that something new would catch my eye.

Instead we get the same slew of derivative third person semi-open world action adventure games with rpg-lite mechanics and another awful David Cage film.

That's one of Sony's weakest showings in quite awhile. MS was weak as well but "felt" better given how it was presented. Let's how Nintendo comes out...

This conference was more suited for playstation experience i think, ita was just a recap of everything we already knew, besides monster hunter and sotc of coursez

Plenty of people have given their reasons for disliking it. And I disagree with all of them. This game has that cinematic Sony formula that I love.

I'm a little freaked out by having to deal with all those freakers, but as long as the character development is good, that aspect will keep me focused throughout the whole game.

Solid conference, probably the best of E3. Was just missing that one mindblowing demo/trailer.

God of War was the best thing there.

Yeah, this is what piqued my interest in the game too. I had absolutely no interest in Days Gone when it was announced, but this year's demo convinced me to pay closer attention to it. The way the zombie hordes move is really impressive.

GAF, we still have TGS and PSX for more unannounced games!

I'm fully expecting a trailer for whatever Sucker Punch is working on. It's either going to open the show or close the show for PSX.

As for tonight's conference itself? It was a good show but compared to their last few conferences it's underwhelming and that is understandable because they can't keep dropping bijou bombs every E3.

Really want more of Days Gone and I believe they're going more in-depth later this week right? Also can't wait for more God of War!

Forgot my rating..... I'll give it a *thinking to himself* Where's Sucker Punch/10

Even though I really enjoyed the conference, it's nice to see gaf realize Sony isn't invincible.

Sony had the same problem today that Nintendo had for a long time after their legendary desperation Direct in January 2013. If you announce 2 or 3 years worth of games all at once, then for the next 2 or 3 years you're gonna have to keep showing the same old same old. Eventually the debt must be paid. Companies decide that it's worth it to get consumers on board at the start of the gen... doesn't matter if you disappoint them once they're already on board.

But seriously, that fucking 2013 January direct. Legendary. If we get HALF the new announcements that had tomorrow it'll be incredible.

i feel the same way. I feel like zombie games are getting tiresome, but World War Z-style zombies could be a breath of fresh air....

and also terrifying

Sony had better content but weaker presentation.
Microsoft had better presentation but weaker content.
Both came off feeling flat for different reasons.

Bethesda's structure was the tightest out of everyone.
Ubisoft had the overall best show with a nice mix of surprise announcements and tight pacing.
EA remained tone deaf like always but people will keep opening their wallets for them so whatever.

God of war looks good, but no interest in these 3rd person interactive movie/games. Press X for awesome was pretty much Spiderman, days gone and that Detroit game.

Was hoping for some live game demo's and a price cut on the Pro. Maybe a Demon souls remake/port.

Overall:

EA 5
MS 6
Bethesda 4
UBI 6
PS 6

Man, that was a pretty boring one for me. I was pretty excited, but that didn't really have much for me.

BTW, am I the only one who is looking at that zombie game and thinking that games with such realistic graphics need to stop having such dopey looking AI?
