Sony E3 2017 Conference Thread [Over]

Anyone know what the digital codes are that were given at the event?

I took a quick pic of what they are giving us although it was pretty vague

I legit think Sony held an announcement or two back after watching Microsoft's conference. If Microsoft had knocked it out of the park with the XBX (and, you know, some games that show it off) I think we would've seen more from Sony today.

Both conferences were pretty underwhelming, but I'm glad we're starting to get release dates.

I kinda miss people talking here and there. It really was a stream of trailers. Felt like something was missing. I saw a lot of stuff I liked so I thought it was a good show. :3 I was especially impressed with the vr games. Skyrim vr, Bravo Team and moss. I think I'm ready to get one soon now.

Man that mvc infinite trailer was bad.

Yeah, honestly, trailer after trailer doesn't seem so great anymore. It's just one giant video.

Honestly, I wouldn't mind at least a few speakers on stage. Especially if it were say someone from Insomniac or Santa Monica dropping a few details on their game. I liked what Microsoft did where it was like 4-5 trailers and then a speaker to help segment the show slightly better. But this is nit-picky as hell.

Not really nit-picky at all. At this point why even have a press conference at all? Just di a direct and be done with it.

Not the best conference by Sony. The already-announced games generally had great new showings, and Hidden Agenda looked awesome, but other than that, quite bland.

I hope PSX will be more impressive.

God of War, SotC and Spiderman and a little bit of the Days Gone trailer (although I am finally starting to get some doubts). Aside from that, holy shit what a lackluster showing.

Maybe y2kev is right and 3 is just too many big presentation in a year (also where the fuck is Dreams). But I don't want them to get rid of psx :(

On the bright side, SotC looks un fucking believably good and GoW trailer is one of the best ones I've seen (although still getting used to new Kratos voice). But I love this new GoW, and the epic scale still seems to be back

What the hell was up with the camera crew?

The constant face-shots of the crowd after every single announcement was so cringe inducing; it made everything feel even more underwhelming than it already was.

The crowd was clearly not engaged, yet the camera-men insisted on panning to them anyways.

Last year's camera work was much better than this.

5/10 not hapy, only one new? What happened with sony? What about vita2?

Thank god Sony did not fall into that trap. They gave us what we asked for games and games that are coming soon. As mention TLOU2 was not announced at E3. Think about that probably their biggest IP was reserved for their fan conference. That;s big! Sony seems to be spreading their content out.

Cold, impersonal, felt phoned in. Sony didn't show up.

3/10

Ubi's winning E3 so far. Only Nintendo is standing in their way to winning E3.

Where the hell was Call of Duty?? Every E3 has promised Call of Duty Single Player campaign gameplay demo/reveal. Was so hoping to see a nice epic cinematic set piece driven SP demo by Sledgehammer, but none of it was shown. What was shown happens to be the MP reveal

Yeah, honestly, trailer after trailer doesn't seem so great anymore. It's just one giant video.

I wish Asad Quiblash and a few other of the sony guys could have stepped out for a few moments. It would have paced it a little better. 85%/15% video to talking would have been better thatn 98%/2%

Agreed. It's strange, I remember complaining about there being too much talking during various conferences in years past, but now that I got what I wanted I realized I don't like it. :lol. It felt like watching a youtube playlist of trailers.

This Sony E3 showing really makes me convinced that PS5 is coming sometime before the end of 2019. They just had very little to say, and honestly, not much new content to show. Monster Hunter (multi-platform) and Shadow of the Colossus (remake) were the only things that surprised me.

I just get the feeling they are going through the motions this E3 and plan to announce the PS5 next E3. You can say it's too early but you know that Sony isn't happy that the XB 1 X is more powerful than the Pro and if they start losing multi-platform sales to it they have to respond.

Sony will announce the PS5 the same way they announced the PS4 & Pro, via a PlayStation Meeting.

Gamers are the most indecisive bunch. We really are not sure what we want!

Edit: Okay bet what if PS Experience becomes the De Facto conference with reveals and live panels and E3 is just the highlight reel?

At the moment I don't think it's a case of too many since right now they really only have the big two, since TGS doesn't really share a lot of content with E3, though maybe some with PSX, but even then they never announce localizations at TGS.

Ultimately I'm ok with a subpar conference, now that I've watched 1440p footage of the SOTC remake. It's cracking my head. I can't believe we're getting the fully technologically realized version of that game, with the art style and animation (seemingly) completely in tact.

Weird conference though - the lack of talking and abundant footage of an indifferent crowd was really emotionally confusing.

I was there. The crowd was everything but indifferent! People were going nuts all over the place.

Well I meant Paris games week or gamescon (whichever they decided to do this year) plus e3 and psx. I had totally forgotten about tgs

We still have Gamescom,TGS, and PSX for this year. I get we want new shiny stuff every year, but Sony showed off a nice bunch of games that look like there going to be releaseing this and next year

Most likely they wanted to flesh out games they know that are getting to be sold soon, so they dedicated to those

Some were nice surprises

Next E3 I'm guessing TLoU2 and Death Stranding take center stage

Sony I think is doing: show titles in the distant to get it in the minds of people, then following year give you the meat portion of the game and either release by that or following year
(Talking about 1st party here, 3rd party ala SE is YMMV)

If they were going nuts at this conference, I'd like to know how it went during Sony's E3 2015 conference lol.

They would be better served by just going the Nintendo route if they are going to reduce E3 importance. They basically had a Sony Direct today but paid extra fees to have a theater etc

No Tlou 2 is so disappointing. I feel like we saw more of the same in like every conference. Sony had the most hard hitters but that's not saying much. If Xenoblade 2 is not at Nintendo's presentation later I think this will be the worst E3 ever or in years for me. Monster Hunter is a huge hard hitter for me but man it's not even exclusive. Honestly? My E3 has come down to just Destiny 2 and Monster hunter as the biggest hits. Anthem didn't say much, honestly but all the conferences were almost equally disappointing. They could have stolen this show with TLoU 2 and the VII remake. I'm absolutely shocked the VII remake missed e3 because the last thing we needed was another FFXV like drought.

Seriously, the cheering was loud. The stream doesn't seem to have captured any of the crazy scene stuff going on. The explosions on stage for the CoD trailer were insane. During the Horizon trailer it was snowing inside, and when the dude in Days Gone found the hanging zombies, zombies fell down and hung from the roof of the stage.

It seems last year with the orchestra and the multiple camera angles, it was much easier to convey what was going on in the theatre, while this year the audience were treated with more of a show/spectacle, but viewers on the stream basically saw a trailer playlist.

Basically, Sony is finally paying the piper for their ultra-hype E3s of years past. In the past, they announced so many titles that weren't set to come out for years, forcing them to show previously announced and demoed games this year.

Also Days Gone continues to look competently made, but bland and focus tested to death from an aesthetic and theming standpoint. Still waiting for some sort of interesting hook from that one.

Happy to see they're still talking about PSVR, but that was a weak-ass showing for the platform.

God of War was probably the most impressive showing for me.

Spiderman was visually stunning, but just so damn quicktime event heavy. Hoping the ratio of quicktime to gameplay isn't representative of the final game.

I think state of decay 2 is direct competition of Days, and Days looks way better

Days Gone seems to be a more straightforward, kill zombies game. State of Decay 2 is more about survival and creating a community and town. I'm kind of leaning towards State of Decay 2 more.

I'm actually offended in retrospect they stopped building the list. That segment was always the droid favorite, even if it's just localisation. It lets fans feel heard.

to me this seems like a really poor return on investment. if you're not going to show what the audience was seeing, or maximize the effect of having an audience, then put some budget behind a pre-recorded program and save on the costs of getting the shrine auditorium, catering, buses to various hotels, etc.

these conferences were born out of actually informing press, who would in turn write about and share their experiences on their websites/magazines. at this stage the press isn't a consideration, so why go through the whole song and dance of something from the 1990s?

that said, psx 2016 is the best conference they had - a lot of variety, good day-of announcements, and surprising reveals and announcements. sony could have emulated that. there are a lot of companies who would have killed for that exposure. or, sony could have simply made their showcase much shorter.

I can see how that would be boring. During the Destiny 2 trailer, banners from the game got lowered around the whole room.

Here's during the MH trailer

Kind of a weird conference. They have a decent lineup of stuff still coming out in 2017 and many were all relegated to the pre-show. thinking maybe I blinked and missed a sizzle reel or something...

Crash Trilogy, Wipeout - this month
Everybody's Golf - August
Knack 2 - September
Niño kiuni 2 a - November
GT Sport - Fall (ok this one might still get delayed lol)

And some other third party ps4/pc stuff iirc.

They had to rein it in at some point, I had a feeling this years show would feel lacklustre compared to the previous years. There are still great games ahead, so i'm not concerned long term.

Yeah I noticed before they would start trailers you could see stuff changing on stage but for whatever reason like Anihawk said they completely cut out the home audience from seeing all the stuff they spent money on.

Such odd decisions since they spent the money to impress then cut out most of the actual audience.

I thought it was solid, I'm surprised by the reactions here.

Sure, lack of new announcements, but that was bound to happen at some point. Pretty much everything looked excellent, even if they were games we already knew about.

I'm not at all disappointed about the lack of 2017 titles as the rest of the year is ridiculously packed and there's no need to add anything else to the pile.

It was totally unreasonable to expect more TLOU2 at this conference. They said right from the start this it was very early in development, and that was just seven months ago. I have hopes for PSX in December though.
