Sony is lagging behind compared to Microsoft when it comes to their controllers.

Hell with that. Give me the OG hamburger Model.

Does it accurately display remaining battery life?

The battery life is displayed, but is the correct battery life displayed? I'm going to say no to that. I honestly don't worry about it, I've gone over a week without recharging it with multiple 2-3 hours sessions during that period. With the regular controller I'm recharging it every two days or so with similar play sessions.

Yeah, there's room for improvement. Still it's one of the best controllers out there, imo.

Which Sony dpad do you prefer?
Psp, vita, or ds4?

Vita feels the best to me by far. DS4 is also a huge upgrade from the piece of shit they shipped with the DS2 and 3 though.

The Xbox One controller overall is a step backwards from the 360 in my opinion. I've been using one for PC games for a year now and I still can't quite get used to it. The bumpers always feel wrong and the D-pad still sucks. I think it's actually worse than the 360 D-pad, and I am baffled that they can't get it right.

Have three DS4s and they all are faulty. First two were launch controllers that both had the thumbstick rip and bad triggers. Bought an extra one in case, but I ended up using it as my main controller. Just yesterday I noticed in Destiny that the right stick has a dead zone problem. In Overwatch, the left stick is incredibly sensitive in the main menu. I have three partially faulty DS4s in the span of less than 3 years. Sony needs to get its shit straight

I never understood why people say popping duracell batteries in is a 'feature'.

Because they're still fairly ubiquitous for some devices and it means you don't have to plug in while you recharge. Alternatively you can have multiple charging packs or multiple sets of rechargable AAs, which are far cheaper than having 2 Dual Shocks. Or, you can just plug it in to charge your Charge and Play kit. Generally the XBO + Charge kit costs the same as the DS4 or similar, in my region at least.

It's far more versatile. I used to be in your camp until one day it actually became handy and I was like "fuck, it's not actually a bad idea!"

I was an Xbox fan last gen and never liked the feel of the dual shock controller but I have to say I prefer the DS4 over the Xbone controller. Just feels more comfortable and I've yet to have any issues of any kind, battery or otherwise 6 months in.

Because we don't use duracell's? We use eneloops and other decent rechargeables. Get 30 or so hours out of each charge, and when it runs out I just pop in my spares and start charging the other ones.

No need to plug in. Just a quick swap and I'm right back to it.

They keep revising the Xbox One controllers to add features the Dual Shock already had. Aside from behind the scenes QC and materials optimization that's clearly already happening, Sony has no need to push a major revision.

I disagree the DS4 controller is perfect for me. Both batteries suck XBOX and PS4, only Wii U PRO gets it right.

I don't think the DS4 feels cheap at all, can't agree with that. The early models have shit batteries and about a 50/50 chance the rubber sticks disintegrate after a dozen hours or so. The second+ wave all feel really solid to me. Had four controllers so far, two at launch and two in the last eight months; can vouch for two friends who had about the same experience.

The DS3 on the other hand was a wild, wild piece of garbage that would twist in the wind.

For the record, I would like a DS4 Pro type controller anyways, always a fan of fancy controllers.

The Elite controller is a little bit more than just BT and headphone jack. The PS4 controller has had atrocious battery life from day one, and they obviously knew this shipping it. That is the main part in need of improvement, but if they could make it feel better in your hands (in terms of materials, not ergonomics) that would also be great.

Dude, no lol

I honestly like the ds4 over Xbox pad and I have an elite pad, best pad would be ds4 with Xbox style triggers.
If that's the case you should get a modded DS4 controller with buttons on the back from scuff, cinch, or battle beaver.

The elite is so amazing though. Still surprised Sony hasn't released one of their own.

I love my DS4, but holy mother that battery life is indeed god awful.

Serious question: how bad is the battery life for others that it's such a big deal? I could probably get 8 hours off of one charge, or more depending on what I'm doing. That doesn't seem bad to me considering that's the absolute most time I'd spend gaming and when I'm done I can just plug it into my ps4 to charge.

There has honestly never been a playstation controller I've ever liked. It's the one thing that's prevented me from every owning one.

I'll probably buy one of those adapters that'll let me use my Elite Xbone controller. I fucking love that piece of hardware and play anything I can with it, and I'm not a huge fan of the Dualshock control scheme.

It isn't that the ps4 controller is shit, its that the thumbsticks are shit. I don't have any real complaints about it beyond that, and you can remedy the issue by getting those thumbstick cover things.
Not to excuse build quality but at least the issues are mostly minor ... R1 button I had on all controllers but it's a 20 second fix . Look up on YouTube.

Peeling is also easy to fix luckily.

Own a PS4 and the controller absolutely sucks. The D-pad is rubbish for Street Fighter 5 and the rubber on the left-hand stick is gone thanks to FPS games. Really want to try that new XBox One S controller on the PC , looks like it would solve all the problems I have with the DS4.

Using an analogue stick for anything that involves the need for speed and/or accuracy, for instance aiming, which is present in the large majority of modern games, is terrible. It always was terrible. What happened then? Games had to change to become playable using one. They became slower, they focused on the horizontal plane, the significant importance of body-region damage modifiers was lost, with some exception to the headshot, and all methods of aim assist introduced. It's about time controllers stopped being a significant detriment to game design (and user-interface design). Hence why I think both Sony and Microsoft should do something similar.

I've heard the trackpad thing is awful. That it's like trying to play a FPS on a notebook

You guys are still getting the problems with peeling thumbsticks? That problem has been sorted for awhile with newer controllers, however my r2 trigger keeps snapping, at least you can buy spares for Amazon now.

It lasts between 6 and 8 hours on a full charge when gaming. I had to charge it twice during my Uncharted 4 playthrough (which was spread out over about 10 days; it wasn't fully charged when I started but wasn't close to empty either), and I didn't even touch MP or stop to take screenshots constantly (was also the only game I was playing and I wasn't using the PS4 for any media functions or other tasks). The XBO controller is easily 2-3x longer, although I've never actually benched it. And the WiiU Pro Controller is like five trillion hours.

It's possibly the worst battery life on a controller I've seen barring the WiiU gamepad which needs to power an entire screen and some impressive low latency streaming tech.

The Elite Controller really is god-tier. I went from thinking Sony may have narrowly edged MS out at the beginning of this gen to begging them to redesign the thing. The Elite Controller may be a bit overpriced—I think $120 would be a better price point —but it is UNRIVALED in my opinion.

There's been a couple of iterations of the xb one controller already... How many for ps4? maybe they will have one with neo

Sony hasn't done a thing to the DS4 despite countless complaints. I thought for sure they'd introduce a DS4 without the LCD or that big giant blue light. At least they could have came out with a DS4 with better thumbsticks?

They're making too much money to care.

I hate going from my Elite controller to my DS4. It feels like crap in comparison.

Given the vast gulf in price, one would hope that would be the case. (I should know as an owner of both.)

I'll take a new and improved PS4 controller happily, but beyond the thumb stick material, there's nothing wrong with it.

I've heard the trackpad thing is awful. That it's like trying to play a FPS on a notebook

If you have no idea about the quality yourself, why would you even bother weighing in? So many write off the steam controller without having any notion of what it's like.

Sony has ALWAYS lagged behind the Xbox controllers. They're actually much closer this gen than they ever have been. I would say the part that really matters(the sticks) are better on the DS4. The Xbox One has very loose sticks for whatever reason.

His idea is right. It's like playing with a trackpad because it is a trackpad.

Dissapointing Sony did not announce new colors or a new (improved) controller. Heck I'm still wating for those colors that europe have.

I like what microsoft did on the other hand.

If your honest opinion is that using a steam controller is like trying to use a notebook trackpad to play games, you either haven't actually used one, or you've given it so little time that you are completely unaware of how it works. The amount of customization on just about every imaginable level present in that trackpad matched with haptic feedback makes it a completely different experience.

I don't love everything about my steam controller, it could use a lot of work in some areas, but just calling it a laptop trackpad is nonsense.

I wanted a Sony "pro" controller before last years E3 and Microsoft announced it which imo was their best announcement - however with the Scuf PS4 infinite - you have an option.

For the design labs - is their any price comparisons against the company Colorware that color customize several electronic devices?

Between Scuf and Colorware I don't know why Sony would do this themselves.

Don't know what some of you are on about, but I really like the DS4. Have it for 2.5 years and no peeling whatsoever. Looks the same.

I also prefer the 360 controller to the One.

Are you on a launch X1 pad? They fixed the bumpers and improved the dpad roughly a year or so after launch. The elite pad is absolutely awesome.

How? The DS4 is perfection over the DS3 and 360 controller. Yeah the battery life sucks and that grip came away in the original models but only small chips.

I can't understand how for having a shitty D-pad for 8 years, the Xbone launched with a controller with another shitty d pad.

Does anyone know if the new Bluetooth controller will let you connect to a PC with a wire? If it does I'll probably buy one, otherwise I'll have to pick up a Btooth adapter for my PC.

I really like the design of the Dual Shock 4. I have to have symmetrical thumbsticks and the d-pad is really great. I definitely agree that the build quality could be better though - I got covers for my two controllers to go on the analogue sticks, but there are too many horror stories about that.

I've only used the vanilla Xbone controller a few times, but I didn't like how loose the thumbsticks felt, and the bumpers didn't feel right either. Although I appreciate the option of buying an Elite version of that controller with customisation.

The best controller is a PS4 controller with Xbox One analog sticks. You just buy them online for like $6 and put them in yourself.

Well Sony wants consistent and everybody to have same controller not to give any advantages over others and also not to confuse people again which controller is best to buy. They are doing minor revisions to improve building quality to an already well designed controller. I don't want them to do any major revision until new gen starts and they can let 3rd party manufacturers to make those minority happy who want changes.

They keep revising the Xbox One controllers to add features the Dual Shock already had. Aside from behind the scenes QC and materials optimization that's clearly already happening, Sony has no need to push a major revision.

They need to make their triggers much more concave. And make their analogue sticks have a smaller dead zone. And have asymmetrical analog sticks.

I can't be the only one that just doesn't care either way, I'll happily use either controller and don't really notice once I'm actually playing a game. Was the same last gen

what? the xbox one controller feels WAY cheaper than the DS4, not even close. The clamshell design on XO controller is horrible, you grasp it and feel a little give in the shell, not a good feeling. And the weight is off. And the sticks are too loose. 360 controller is way better than X1 controller

I'm pissed that Sony STILL hasn't made a control with concave thumb sticks. It boggles my mind my thumbs practically slide right off the Dualshock 4.

Really don't mind the DS4. The only problem is that it gets pretty squeaky after a while.

Are you referring to the triggers?

If so, LIGHTLY soak the corner of a piece of paper towel in WD40 and just slip it into the cracks where the hinges are, pressing the trigger down a few times as you do this.

Totally safe, and you'll never hear your trigger squeak again.

I'd love to see a better DS4 with longer battery life, smaller light, and better feeling rumble and triggers like the XBO controller... Just not at XBO controller prices. $79.99 for a custom color and $149.99 for an elite controller are a bit much, and I pray Sony keeps the price reasonable if they ever do.
