Sony needs to improve PS4 shipment in NA

The sky is falling. I saw 3 PS4s in Target this afternoon.

For some reason, they seem to be usually available in the Targets around me, and nowhere else. Not once have I seen them in a local Best Buy, Walmart, or anywhere else, but one of the Targets will usually have a few.

Yes they should have focus on those 13 countries even though they sold 4.4 million.

I except a inFamous bundle is coming up.

Why? They managed to be in the same countries XB1 was in, sell more in them all (except New Zealand), AND launch in an additional 40. Plus Japan shortly.

What is the downside exactly other than having extreme demand unable to be satisfied for months on end, whilst still selling double your competitor in January? :P

I meant be aggressive in those 13 countries, yea they can still release in other countries. Specifically talking about USA, be aggressive there

Why worry about being aggressive in the US? Xbox Ones are readily available, yet customers are waiting until they can find a PS4.

Having a world wide presence is better in the long run than concentrating too much on one or two markets. Sony will benefit in the longterm in both sales and development support for this approach.

I see inFAMOUS / Dynasty Warriors 8 / DreamPark Tycoon / Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes / Octodad / Putty Squad / Stealth Inc: Ultimate Edition / SteamWorld Dig / TowerFall: Ascension. Am i missing any?

TowerFall is out next month? FUCK YES.

There's inFAMOUS, and...

holy shit there is ONLY infamous!! Man .. that sucks .. only the biggest release so far for the system.

Yeah, I will be playing Infamous for a long time. Won't need anything else. Will also be able to play the Final Fantasy 14 BETA here in a week, Rayman Legends, Thief, Deep Down BETA is supposed to hit around the time of the Japanese launch, then you have all the Japan launch titles that are region free.

Did not know about Towerfall either.

But yeah, I am good on March. Will 100% get Infamous for my PS4 and possibly Titanfall / Dark Souls 2 on my PC

They have the advantage now but this can change at any moment. A few good moves on Microsofts part and they could be leading in the US within a couple of months. If I was Sony, I'd be scared of Titanfall.

they were also available in launch week at quite few Cosco's, simply because gamers dont think of looking there.

I'm on mobile, or I'd do some legwork and try and find the answer. Is it in their ad for tomorrow? If so, they've almost certainly held back stock. If it's not in the ad, then tomorrow most likely won't be any different unless it came in on Saturday's shipments (I have no idea what Best Buy's shipment days are).

it's in Best Buy's ad for tomorrow so they should have stock when they open

You are not making sense.

The Xbox One has to sell over 300k while the PS4 sits still for them catch up like that.

I guess the hope is ->

Xbox One March NPD :

395,000 units (thank you Titanfall)

PS4 March NPD:

83,000 units (inFamous LOL)

(and them both apparently selling the same in February)

it seems we are heading back in lack of PS4 availability . US is the biggest market and was the weakest for PS3. Sony should have made it a priority.

Or..... y'know the world doesn't revolve around NA?

Why would they make it a priority when they are already ahead there unlike the previous generation?

So far they are achieving their targets.

Tbh I think they are doing the right thing by supporting the rest of the world in the same way that we have supported the PS3.

Yes I can see the Xbox One getting a hardware bump in March.

But anyone thinking that the PS4 will just have 83k for that month is crazy to me.

I wouldn't be. Titanfall isn't going to "save" the Xbone. It will of course get a decent bump for March, but it's not going to turn the tables or anything.

And it doesn't seem like people are running out to get Xbones in great numbers just because the PS4 is hard to find. People would rather just wait until they can find one, which is becoming somewhat easier as time goes on.

Good thing you aren't Sony, then. No need to be scared of a multi platform game that will definitely have its subsequent releases on other platforms.

I say it mirrors the PS2 launch a lot when that system launched I did not preorder and by all accounts including here on gaf the system was sold out everywhere now back then we did not have more accurate tracking like stock checkers and or social media and amazon and online ordering wasn't what it is now so you kinda had to take their word for it however despite all that I would see systems in store shelves like Fry's and Kmart in fact I bought mine during the sold out month of January at a fry's. It even mirrors the meme of "it has no games why is everyone buying it?" well then it was because it was the cheapest DVD player on the market so that whent a long way with customer considering the cheapest dvd player was nowhere near the PS2's launch price. The parallels are crazier considering its launched head to head with another system something the ps2 did not have so its actually an even more amazing launch than ps2.

Titanfall is going to be a stern lesson to many people here that you cannot force or "will" a game into success or superstardom. No matter how badly EA and Xbox fans want it to be.

Nobody hyped up Modern Warfare as this big game, it was seen as just another Call of Duty, run of the mill shooter, yet it changed everything, if you think i am rewriting history, go listen to some podcasts during this time, people were shocked that "that modern CoD game is selling like crazy whats up with dat!?". World of Warcraft was originally projected by even Blizzard to top at 300k subscribers, League of Legends was seen as nothing more than a lame "F2P" game when F2P games had a bad stigma attached, Minecraft was practically invisible to the game media until it gained its fanbase. GTA3 was just a weird sequel to a 2D game, it was going to get slaughtered by Headhunter and Getaway (remember those?!). And the list goes on and on.

The point is: these things happen organically and typically come from the left field. Titanfall is the oppossite of that, its a blunt object being rammed down peoples throats, because the situation is now that desperate for the Xbox One, we have officially entered the "Just wait for ___" phase of the console's lifespan. If you remember 2013 was littered with "Just wait for ___" only that was reserved for the Wii U. When Titanfall fails to become the big system seller, it will be "Just wait for Halo, its the REAL system seller!" and then after that "Just wait for price drop" and it just goes and on and on.

You cannot buy a "game changer" nor force it, you can certainly force the narrative on a online community, but that is not going to launch your game as some sort of huge franchise.

By the looks of things, the PS4 will likely go on a very long run of outselling every home console in NA and WW for years to come. Titanfall is not that game that is going to "change the landscape". That game, whoever is making it, and for whatever system it is being made for, is yet to be seen.

Because titanfall is the only exclusive game coming out for it. there is literally nothing for xone for months, as far as im aware

haha and just as I say that a new bundle gets put up at Wal-Mart at 3:29PM(EST). PS4 + 2 games for $499.99.

Stock situation in North America and the much of the rest of the world seems like it still has at least another month to go before stabilization

dat forced bundle

Lego Marvel or Just Dance? what a choice!

Word on the street (PS+ EU) is Dead nation port too.

I don't disagree, but we may see huge sales for Titanfall anyway as it seems the hype is real from media and beta testers.

I still don't see what is so great about it, but hey, I'm a Sony pony apparently.

Mechs and double jump.

Seriously, it looks fun enough but nothing I'd drop $500 on a console for.

I'm not sure if he was being sarcastic. I can't tell.

Still, I was shocked when I looked at Microsoft's confirmed exclusives for the year.

I see Titanfall, Kinect Sports Rivals in April, and then all the others (D4, QB, SO) have no release date. I'm not saying the cupboard is bare, but we don't have much of an idea when they're going to release.

EDIT:

I think it will sell well enough. It's got some great e sports buzz going right now amongst the PC crowd. I was thinking it'd sell 3 million between 360, PC and Xbox One in the first few months. I just don't think it's going to be the catalyst of changing any trajectories or being a killer app like some desperately want.

What do you think of that prediction?

I think they already confirmed that e-sports support isn't happening, at least within the first few weeks of launch anyway. Respawn's already confirmed there's no private lobbies nor LAN support at launch. Besides, it doesn't really seem like a competitive title, given all of the bots running around and the unpredictable movement of players. Spectating a match probably wouldn't be easy.

It'll still sell anyway, but I'm thinking around 2.5 million in the first few months and 4-5 million lifetime.

This is my opinion on it.

I think that if cross-gen CoD/BF/AC/Fifa/Madden/NBA didn't make someone spend $500 on a better version then I don't see cross-gen Titanfall doing it.

I think it's going to be a big game, but on 360.

I doubt that too many more reveals will happen before E3.

Yeah, Titanfall isn't gonna do that much for Xbone. People can and will wait for their PS4 as there's hardly any games for either console at the moment.

To be fair though we don't have confirmation on any release date for a Sony 1P exclusive after Infamous do we? The Order should come this year, uncharted will likely be next year and I'm not sure what else we'll get from them either [fully expect at least 2 or 3 other 1P exclusives but can't figure out which ones]

They confirmed MLB for "May"

Thanks Skeff I always forget about the show which is sad as I know how loved it is by fans of the sport

Easier than ordering off of Amazon? Because earlier this week, you had that opportunity. That wasn't the only time either. Further, though it's obviously a YMMV situation, they have been available at numerous retailers, and I'm not referring to just shipment days.

He did say right around Christmas which required luck or precise timing to be able to buy one, but I feel that if you really REALLY wanted one you could get it... that wasn't true for the ps2

Sony will probably hold it all in and unleash on us at E3. They can have two home runs in a row, can't they?

Ps4 stock should start to normalize after Japans launch IMO.

And neither Titanfall or Infamous is going to move many consoles. Titanfall will get most of its sales on 360.
