Sony no longer making AAA PS Vita games

should have been first post

You know, I was surprised Vita was even mentioned at E3 given how they failed to acknowledge it's existence the last 2-3 conferences.

Good as dead. Still got it for remote play though...

I wonder what happens to all the managers or crew members in charge of the Vita department of Sony?

Do they just sit inside all day relaxing? Do they just walk around the building waving hello to people?

"Hey man, shouldn't you be working?"
"Don't have to. I work for the Vita department so every day is free".
"Wow. Here I am just scrubbing floors for a living."

Its probably not a very sought after job. I mean you can be insanely competent and successful, make the most of a nonexistent budget, and line up indies, ports, and third party releases, and your still going to be associated with failure. Much better to get assigned a PS4 project like Horizon or Bloodborne.

This is probably why SCEA has been so awful with PR. No one is in the "Vita Department" and no one wants anyone else to think they are in charge of it.

By contrast, European companies have often been a bit more indulgent of eccentrics, especially if someone high up has a soft-spot for them. Not to the extent of giving them budgets mind you, but people like Shahid and Corsi clearly care a lot.

Then again, given the way Sony ran their conference, it looks like the Vita is far from the only product being run on the cheap. The Playstation 4 team didn't really look as though they were rolling in ready cash, albeit they did a much better job of trying to hide it.

Really glad I sold my Vita 1 week after I bought it last year. I saw that Sony wasn't going to support it and I wanted to see the remote feature. Doesn't look like Sony plans on updating and improving this either.

By improving do you mean remote play? It improved last update or so to support 60FPS.

I'm not sure which is deader between Vita and Wii U. One gets no more first party support and the other gets no more third party support.

I'm ok with this. And we've known that for a while, Sony said it before.

Keep the online alive, the PS Store up, and bring over indies and cross ports.

I wish they'd cut the prices on the memory cards. I'm still using the 4gig mine came with but I straight up refuse to pay those stupid prices.

This is just my list of all the games I'm excited to play on my Vita in the next two years.

Would I like to see Gravity Rush 2 and Type-0? Yeah. Would I like to see more PSP Classics? Yeah. But if this is all I get, I can't complain.

So while this is sad, this is no different from what we've been living with since 2013.

Since they likely won't be another Sony handheld console I wonder how long companies will continue to support the Vita and how long Sony will sell the Vita.

Sad to think it will be completely dead relatively soon.

This E3 proved Vita and Wii U are deader than dead.

This E3? The past two years haven't?

All I want for PSP2 is FFXII:I:ZJS HD Remix and Disgaea D2. The system can then die as far as I'm concerned. Make it happen Square-Enidos and NISA.

While this has been known for a while, its still disappointing. I am not sure why Sony threw up their hands and gave up making games for it after huge budget games they made didnt sell. I would understand not making such large budget games, but you could have paired back. For the cost of one Killzone Mercenary, you probably could have funded half a dozen lower budget titles. Look at most of the stuff coming from Japan, those games have budgets in the low few million at most. Hell Demon Gaze surprised its publisher when it surpassed 50k in sales, which implies a budget of well below $2m.

Sure, you arent making Uncharted, Killzone or funding terrible versions of Call of Duty or Resistance. However, you would be showing support for the system and potentially creating new franchises that could always make the jump to PS4 later on. Where was a new Patapon or even Patapon qHD collection? I cant imagine either of those costing anywhere close to Uncharted Golden Abyss or even Unit 13.

Fine, the market rejected the device. However, that was due to price of the system, of the memory cards, and the lack of games. When the going got tough for the Vita, Sony stopped caring, a far cry from Nintendo who did whatever they could to salvage the 3DS at launch and now the Wii U.

Pretty embarrassing that your not supporting your own platform and instead 3rd parties are doing it for you.
