Sony now doing beta tests for PS4 firmware

There's been background music since day 1 with Music Unlimited and since 2.0 with USB sticks.

It didn't replace the music of the game you were playing though, at least it didn't in MLB. I had to go into MLB's settings and turn off music, or I had two songs going on at once.

Suspend/Resume
Delete 0% trophies
60fps shareplay

After getting my Xbox One, god damn I'm really glad Sony is still planning on putting in suspend/resume. It doesn't sound or initially seem like a big deal, but once you start using it (like I did on Xbox One or even on the Vita) you realize just how fantastic it is.

Deleting 0% trophies will help me clean up my trophy list. A lot of PS+ stuff I just... Started up and then realized I own the PC version and played it on there (Deus Ex HR, Hitman Absolution, etc).

But in the library they specifically have sections for Apps and Games, and apps will currently suspend if you start a game, whereas a game will close if you start an app or another game.
You can also suspend a game. Open a game, play it for a minute. Share video and then upload -> trim it and the game is suspended.

so, here's a question. if they really are implementing suspend mode as a low power mode where they just keep everything in ram

could we also have an option to suspend and fully power down by dumping ram to the hdd?
sometimes i might want to suspend my game's state but i won't be back to my console to play for a while

Wait.... If Share Play is 60FPS, is there any reason to believe that Remote Play can't be bumped to 60FPS?

I was thinking the same, because from the PS4's perspective Share Play and Remote Play is the same technology, so for Remote Play 60 fps would only depend on the Vita's capability.

True, I forgot about that.

The library change the semantics for the end-users to better organise where to find applications (like Netflix) and games. The poster above also provides how to demonstrate games being able to be suspended.

Suspend/Resume, finally! Don't care about any of the other stuff added. Suspend/Resume was the only update i really wanted so i'm happy.

Just looking at the screengrabs, and I think it's worth noting it says "enter rest mode without any closing applications" and "keep applications suspended." I'm thinking this isn't full suspend resume for games, but only for apps like Netflix/Amazon. The system can already suspend those apps when you start a game, now they are letting you suspend them while in rest mode. If it was full suspend resume they would surely specify by saying "applications and games."

Games are considered as apps in the PS4 OS. This is the suspend/resume feature they talked about back in Feb 2013.

If I'm wrong then great. All I'm saying is it seems like very specific language and thought that it was worth pointing out.

Yeah, DLNA is at the top of my want list too. Maybe it is in the "additional features" that hasn't been leaked yet? One could hope.

You can try Plex for free in the browser, and pay once for the app when it gets out of beta if you like it. Even as it is now with terrible codec support from Sony it's nearly as good as DLNA was on the PS3, and the interface is hugely, vastly superior.

Unless you just want music from DLNA, in which case Plex is working on it for the app and it doesn't work in the browser.

Ok, sorry, I haven't read the thread yet.

How are people being picked for the Beta? Is this some in house testing, or are they inviting people?

No I see where you're coming from with that, but suspending applications (Netflix and Games) work now, but not when putting your console in a low-power mode, only Netflix-style applications will do that.

Heh well I suppose some may consider that "major" but yeah hopefully they work on that next.

I want folders before DLNA to be honest.

I've personally gone all digital this generation so a content organization and management solution is a big deal for me. Regular purchases coupled with 2 PS+ games every month has my games library very crowded at the moment.

I would be happy with folders before DLNA as well.

Yeah, mostly for music but also have photos and videos. I have everything on a Synology NAS and haven't tried using the PS4 browser to get to it yet. I'll try it this weekend to see how it goes. Thanks

I just hope Suspend/Resume doesn't consume more power than the current Standby mode. The PS4 and X1 are terrible when it comes to power efficiency.

I might actually use it if it remains the same.

And before anyone says it's only a few dollars per year, it's not about money. It's about inefficiency.

Why NDA software features? Microsoft doesn't have an NDA on the preview program...

Sony gets a bad rep with their firmware and everything, so I'm betting it's just because if something does go wrong (remember the rest mode bug in 2.0?), it's a much smaller crowd to help.

Ugh. 0% percent trophy deletion... Wish there was full deletion... Someone played Fifa in my ps4 and got 1 trophy. Hello ocd smh.
