Sony PlayStation Vita Live Stream!

It's $80 more expensive than the immediate handheld competition that came out a year earlier and has a few Nintendo "killer franchises" as well as MH 3G/4. They're definitely the underdog.

Its technology is superior to the 3DS, but history teaches us that this is not enough to succeed. What they'll need is a steady amount of good games and some killer apps, which so far are doubtful. If Vita manages that, it'll without a doubt find its own niche. I just don't see the PSV doing similar numbers as the PSP in its lifetime right now though.

They have some good games for launch, but only time will tell if they can keep 'em coming.

Don't forget that Nintendo sold us the 3DS at 250$, and yes I know we also have to buy a memory card for this system.

I think 250$ is an easy sell for the target audience, and considering how high-quality and well-developed the hardware looks. It's all about how Sony chooses to market it, and I don't have high hopes for that.

They should have done anything possible to do a worldwide release around this time.. I really think launching in February could prove disastrous.

PS. How can you say the Vita won't have any killer apps, even looking at the quite incredible launch lineup?

PPS. For me this hardware has incredible potential, since it supports the newest version of the engine that powered Siren: New Translation and Demon's Souls. And yes I am port-begging!

Looks great. I can't wait for Peace Walker 2.

YES

I have no idea what people are saying about Uncharted looking awful. This stream of Uncharted looks incredible. The zoom-ins of the "photo mode" especially looks great.

Wasn't that interested in the game before but now whenever I get a Vita it'll be one of the games I'll get day 1.

That I don't know for certain. We only know the iPhone does because it was revealed in the Jobs biography. Apple doesn't talk about stuff like that. That said, it's glass either way, and offers better protection than a flimsy piece of plastic.

The end result is that you end up with an ugly display, since the plastic picks up all kinds of scratches the glass never would. Same goes for Vita.

They should be using Gorilla. Should be cheaper to buy the glass in a bulk to use it for both machines than to have separate type of glass for each.

Power Support are very good screen protectors. They don't scratch like the cheap ones and you can barely tell it's even on. As far as the iPhone is concerned its more about cutting down on fingerprints and smudges while also preventing damage since I take it everywhere and handle it much rougher than my other electronic devices.

It looks great in person/video, but the direct feed screenshots with horrendous jpg compression and sub-1:1 resolution look quite bad without some imagination.

Of course quite bad means that we are probably automatically comparing this Uncharted to the PS3 games.

You forget the 3DS launch price? Its not the same anymore but even Nintendo shat on itself some months ago.

Anyways I think the Vita will be fine at its current price.

Actually no - one Gaffer who has the game says it looks awful - and he's playing it on the Vita.

PSP built its momentum on piracy and homebrew after Sony neglected it, they only came back to save PSP in the western world late in the cycle.

3DS barely started to crank up its software line up. Too early to tell what will happen to it when Vita and smartphones build up their core game library.

Vita is too new to say anything except for getting Sony to patch a few holes, and western launch game developers to polish their games.

Uncharted is looking great, the only negative I really see is that it seems to be just filled with touch minigames similar to how launch DS games where. (minigames that serve no real purpose but to force you to use all of the gimmicks of the system)

I told myself to hold off on early adoption because I always end up regretting it, but this live stream of the Vita is making that really hard to do, especially considering this might be hitting the US around the same time as my tax return.

And don't forget that at that price, the system sat on shelves collecting dust. The potential for Vita is amazing, and it's an incredible piece of hardware. But we're not going to get half of what we want to see, if they're only capturing the dedicated gamers.

I don't know if Uncharted is anything but: "hey use every single new hardware feature we have!".

I don't think its such a bad idea for a launch game. Uncharted will be one of the better selling ones and a great way to showcase and impress, if it would just control like the console versions then Vita wouldn't look too hot/special to someone looking to buy the system I think. This is the time for Sony to tout the system's features and make the Vita stand out.

PSP did fine and IIRC it was the same price? I know the 'landscape' has changed since then, but in Europe an iPhone is still 379 euro (for the 3GS!), or 199 euro for the iPod Touch.

Have they really been streaming for like 11 hours straight?

No they took a break for a few hours to go eat a curry.

I see what you're saying and somewhat agree. But when it reaches the point of having to repeat the same "rotate the object and wipe it off" minigame multiple times in a row, I feel that it will just put people off of the system rather than impress them. A lot of the early Wii and DS games suffered from this same thing but they've now figured it out so hopefully when the second wave of big games launch for Vita the gimmicks will be ironed out.

PSP had a good launch lineup, but nothing as stunning and galvanizing as Uncharted. It's great to see a bonafide, killer-app at launch, and still have interesting titles leftover like Gravity Daze and Escape Plan.

he he

lol!!

The feature set and ease of use alone is a selling point. I'm more excited to mess around with all the built in SW than games lol

A killer app would be something like Monster Hunter, something that draws a huge amount of people to the handheld. They don't have an established "million seller" right now for the handheld, that's what I'd go for as "killer app". If you want to go with "awesome games" they definitely have a few, especially Gravity Rush looks awesome.

Agreed. I still have hope for some kind of MH announcement by Capcom.

Wow, it shows you what other people did in the same game.. like a Twitter feed of your friends.

Too bad I have no friends.
