It's $80 more expensive than the immediate handheld competition that came out a year earlier and has a few Nintendo "killer franchises" as well as MH 3G/4. They're definitely the underdog.
Its technology is superior to the 3DS, but history teaches us that this is not enough to succeed. What they'll need is a steady amount of good games and some killer apps, which so far are doubtful. If Vita manages that, it'll without a doubt find its own niche. I just don't see the PSV doing similar numbers as the PSP in its lifetime right now though.
They have some good games for launch, but only time will tell if they can keep 'em coming.
Looks great. I can't wait for Peace Walker 2.
It popups up a message and asks you to close the game when you go to the web browser in game.

That I don't know for certain. We only know the iPhone does because it was revealed in the Jobs biography. Apple doesn't talk about stuff like that. That said, it's glass either way, and offers better protection than a flimsy piece of plastic.
The end result is that you end up with an ugly display, since the plastic picks up all kinds of scratches the glass never would. Same goes for Vita.

I have no idea what people are saying about Uncharted looking awful. This stream of Uncharted looks incredible. The zoom-ins of the "photo mode" especially looks great.
Wasn't that interested in the game before but now whenever I get a Vita it'll be one of the games I'll get day 1.
Man, I can't help but notice how many smudges the screen has even with that bright ass screen. =\
This Uncharted looks great.
To see this graphic on handheld is mindblowing stuff to me.
You forget the 3DS launch price? Its not the same anymore but even Nintendo shat on itself some months ago. It's $80 more expensive than the immediate handheld competition that came out a year earlier and has a few Nintendo "killer franchises" as well as MH 3G/4. They're definitely the underdog.

It looks great in person/video, but the direct feed screenshots with horrendous jpg compression and sub-1:1 resolution look quite bad without some imagination.
Of course quite bad means that we are probably automatically comparing this Uncharted to the PS3 games.

Don't forget that Nintendo sold us the 3DS at 250$, and yes I know we also have to buy a memory card for this system.
I don't know if Uncharted is anything but: "hey use every single new hardware feature we have!".
And don't forget that at that price, the system sat on shelves collecting dust. The potential for Vita is amazing, and it's an incredible piece of hardware. But we're not going to get half of what we want to see, if they're only capturing the dedicated gamers.
Have they really been streaming for like 11 hours straight?

I don't think its such a bad idea for a launch game. Uncharted will be one of the better selling ones and a great way to showcase and impress, if it would just control like the console versions then Vita wouldn't look too hot/special to someone looking to buy the system, I think. This is the time for Sony to tout the systems features.

A killer app would be something like Monster Hunter, something that draws a huge amount of people to the handheld. They don't have an established "million seller" right now for the handheld, that's what I'd go for as "killer app". If you want to go with "awesome games" they definitely have a few, especially Gravity Rush looks awesome.
Wow, it shows you what other people did in the same game.. like a Twitter feed of your friends.
Too bad I have no friends.
