Sony reportedly shifting First Party development focus onto PS5

Outside of a new UI (xmb please), I have a hard time imagining the jump in graphics and why a new console is necessary. I literally just got a PS4 for Christmas so this current gen feels brand new to me, lol. I'll pick up a PS5 when new a new RE title is released.

Didn't realize that. With that in mind, I feel like we can expect the PS5 on November of this year.

The only reason why I don't think it'll be November of this year, is they are skipping E3 due to "lack of new announcements".

If anything, next year they'll do the same pattern of announcing the PS5 prior to E3, have an E3 showcase, then launching November 2020.

But who knows, companies have done some crazy switch ups in the past.

This is no surprise. After Days Gone and the Last of Us Part II, what else would any first party Sony studio be working on. I myself will be a little sad to see this gen go, with all the great games recently Red Dead Redemption 2, Kingdom Hearts III, Resident Evil 2 and earlier in the year God of War. Not to mention my new found love of everything VR, 115 PS4 games later, I feel like this gen could easily go on another 2 years easy but we'll see I'm predicting a 2020 launch so it might not be time to close the curtain just yet but things are slowly starting to wind down now. Ugh new gens are so expensive too.

That's great news, because shitty Xbox One and PS4 hardware was holding back PC games. The console lowest common denominator really does stink.

When are these fucking hacks at Sony are going to allow me to change my psn username to 2DBigTits?

Gotta get those PS4 BC games upgraded baby.
Improved resolutions, filterings, textures, LODs and frame rates.
I want to login in the PS5 and play my PS4 games Sony don't fuck everything up.

I wouldn't count on that. The 1st party blockbuster games like UC, TLoU, GT, Death Stranding, Horizon etc. will most likely receive a cross-gen patch, maybe some 3rd party games that will be released during the holiday season like CoD, BF etc. but that's all. The games already sold as much as they could, it's not anyone's interest to go back working on them, even if it's just one or two persons.

If anything, I expect a graphical parity with the base PS4 model - the CPU is rumored to have a peak turbo frequency of 3.2Ghz, but only a 1.6Ghz base clock, same as the PS4. Coincident? I don't think so. Also I won't be surprised if instead of one big, unified GPU the PS5 will have X (3?) clusters of 18CU GPUs, just like in Pro, so they can use one cluster for BC with base PS4, two for PS4 Pro utilized games, and all for the newer/patched PS5 games. Basically the console would lower/lock down its specs to PS4/Pro equivalent, for the sake of stability and compatibility.

TLOU2, Ghost of Tsuhima and Death Stranding will be PS5 launch line up.
Either it would be such a wasted oportunity to print money.

Perfecto!

not surprised. as expected TLOU2 will be the last major first party PS4 game.

I expect it'll come out in 2020 long after GoT/DS. plus they gotta tempt people to double dip when the inevitable PS5 remaster comes out.

Well, Sony has ND, Kojima, Bend, Sucker Punch, MM and the Concrete Genie guys busy with PS4 projects. I assume for PS5 they are working on Horizon 2, GoW 2, Spiderman 2, the next GT and something from Sony Japan.

Unless they are minor, small or 2nd party games I highly doubt Sony will have something unnanounced else for PS4 only.

Guerrilla Games is probably the most interesting one as it's all over the place, followed by Sucker Punch Studios.
I get the impression that Killzone is a roller coaster ride but something that they can salvage given the experience they've gained over the years.
Cambridge closed, but moving to an almost 3x the size of the original Amsterdam building so they'll be housing a large talent pool.

It should be noted that Sony moved or planning to move their European HQ from the UK to Amsterdam (thanks to Brexit, Panasonic is or did the same BTW).
Plus port of Rotterdam is there, gateway to Europe bla bla, far fetched idea but all things considered GG would be closer to HQ now.

Sucker Punch has shown with Ghost of Tsushima that they can box with the best (how the game scores/performs we'll have to see).
But equally it's a talented studio that has been stable with their output, albeit for the most part only inFamous for the last decade?
The studio is due to expand as well though and might happen if GoT does well I reckon, everyone else is expanding, VR isn't taking off fast enough for additional studios I suppose.

PS4 is pretty much covered for more 2 years, so it's the right time for Sony to prepare for the next gen.

In other news: water is wet!

No, but in all seriousness this was expected right? :) We're in the final lifecycle of the Ps4, which was announced a while ago.

Nah, that makes no sense. It would leave them stretched too thin over the next 12-18 months. Obvious windows they need to support are holiday 2019, and Spring 2020. After that point it gets more fuzzy as you'd expect the PS5 pre-release hype machine to be in full effect by that point.

If we assume Days Gone fits in for Spring, Dreams in summer, they need a heavy hitter or two for the holiday period. I'd expect them wanting to space out TLOU2 a bit from DG so I'd say that that will be Feb-April 2020.

Horizon 2 will be the primary launch title for PS5.

This is great news!

Haha. I'd say with the ridiculousness of the left on display, Trump retaining office is more likely than backward compatibility on the PS5.

Not if most of the special elections as well as the 2018 midterm elections are anything to go by. A lot of people are sick of Trump now. Myself included.

*Sorry for going off-topic.*

I said that was going to happen with Guerrilla years ago before they put out Horizon that their next title would be for PS5.

If the PS4 keeps selling well into 2020, why not wait until 1H 2021 for release?

I would rather see PS4 Pro Slim with price cut this year and have a PS5 come out later with a huge launch library of exclusives. This would also allow Sony to make the PS5 more powerful with component costs being cheaper.
The objective is to transition into the next generation at a stable point in the consoles life, but before the inevitable sharp decline begins.
2020 Q4 is the right time.

How exactly are consoles holding back PC titles, really? You do realize that PC exclusives still have to cater to hardware even lower spec than consoles, right?

The console lowest common denominator really does stink.
A world where consoles are allowed to exist must be your literal nightmare.

This is what a company does when it "plans ahead" and thus doesn't end up scrambling to buy companies and explaining why it has no games coming out after several years of being on the market. This is the industry leader acting like one.

My guess is that there will be at least one exclusive FPS launch title, one exclusive 3rd person adventure game launch title, and maybe even a From Software game. I think a bloodborne 2 on Ps5 will look the same as bloodborne 1 except with will be 4k/60fps on ps5.

In otherwords, it won't look the same at all. That's a pretty massive difference.

Gamers who invest in their rigs fail to understand they are in a tiny minority and that developing games with jaw dropping graphics is not profitable. Most games are for the masses, not for a few %.

You seem to be stuck in 2014.

No, I'm in 2019 where the Xbox One X and PS4 Pro are dog shit compared to a decent PC.

We don't even have games that work above 60hz largely because they're still being designed for those archaic pieces of trash.

You do realize those 30+fps games are designed that way, right?

How come we still have this rethoric year after year, especially when nearing next-gen?

How did Zhuge suddenly become some end all insider that is picked up by small gaming outlets? I guess it had something to do with the whole Gaf Vs. Reset thing and he's one of the founders but he's literally just some guy working at a firm. He's not in any better position than he was in 2017. Cboat was more consistent back in the day.

Those archaic pieces of trashes are outputting RDR2 at 4k and Sony 1st party graphics. I reckon us lowest common denominators pebbles are doing just fine. At least you can run pubg at 60fps I'll give you that.

Actually, I was talking about running games at 144fps not 60fps. Interesting that your standards are so low you're not even thinking in the same framerate range.

And no, shitty checkerboard rendering isn't "4k." It looks like shit compared to actual 4k rendering. But enjoy your soft, blurry image!

Oh wow you can run fortnite and a Skyrim enb at 144fps, such abundance in high standards. Btw RDR2 is real 4k, what res do you run it on?
PS: I can bet you my account that my computer is better than yours but unlike you I don't have a footlong stick up my ass entering console threads ;)

I was thinking more about running Final Fight at 144hz. And no, RDR2 isn't "reak 4k." It uses checkboard rendering. That's why it looks like a blurry mess.

That's a pretty worthless bet. I don't want your account or care whether you continue to post or not.

Guesssing the PS5 will still be a Black Console first over any other colour.

I hope they return to the Grey style of the PS1 someday for their standard colour. 😐

Ideally speaking, would love to see the console shrink to PC Engine size to carry around with me.

I think Dirthead fails to understand common principles in gaming to begin with.

Please point to me an Xbox One X equivalent PC build in that form factor and for the Xbox One X money. Or PS4 Pro even.

Oh right, you can't do that. You are the guy that wants Zotac Magnus mini PC's and claim how much more amazing they are, whilst ignoring that these devices come at a premium cost which is just an argument in support of consoles instead of being against it.

But what do i know really. All you do with people who reason with you is that you put them on ignore. So much for taking accountability, i reckon.

Too bad Bloodborne is not on PC huh. God, the depression you had to be in when you were forced to play that game on console..

Your standards represent a minority of gamers, namely folks who have to wiggle their e-peen online busting the superiority of their platform.

You talk people down for having low standards when the only standard you have is the standard of lingering insecurity.

Way to talk checkerboarding down. Its a better solution than upscaling but don't let that bitter tone take over your posting habit!

No surprise you love trash tier low spec games like Final Fight which obviously have no business at 144 fps.*

*This is your style of argumentation, by the way.

99.99% of the players, never saw an AAA game running at 144fps. 144fps isn't an standard.

Already? That was probably my least favorite console generation if it comes to exclusives. God of war was "okay" but other than that? I love yakuza and bloodborne but that's about it.
Don't like uncharted, not a big fan of horizon, can't get into already thousand times used western super heroes like spider man.... Meh
Compared to the exclusives of let's say.. ps2 era this was pretty lame.
