Sony says no AAA third party devs can make a game that rivals COD.

Looks like they sent a statement to the Brazil commission and they admit that none of their devs can make a game that rivals COD. They also say that COD is so big that it influences peoples choice of platform

Seems they are fighting to keep it multiplat and it doesn't look like they will try to compete against it

I hope something like this would shut down the deal wherever it can, just to spite MS. They're a behemoth that literally cannot be competed against.

Microsoft needs to be broken up, like yesterday.

EDIT: Everybody "LOL"ing at my comment: I am serious. Microsoft has been a menace way longer than they've been in the game industry. Their acquisitions are never a good thing for any industry (gaming or otherwise).

It's time, boys.

First, a Halo killer, now a COD killer:

Probably true. Sony likes money. If they could make a game that rivals COD's odd stranglehold on the multiplayer fps market, they would have done it already.

Negative about the acquisition? No shit lmao

Sony will get mw2, continued warzone updates, and never see a mainline entry again

Sony would have done the exact same thing, but maybe take mw2 away and timed exclusive warzone updates for playstation, tough shit

I have both consoles, but now every entry is hitting game pass day 1, thanks Microsoft

Hype Train conductor. Works harder than it steams.
It's true, the only way would be a complete clone.
Infinity Ward just hit the nail on the head with the original MW.

But it doesn't stop others Devs from making something just as well received but different.

That's pretty sad, considering COD hasn't been good for years now. Breaking up lobbies to ensure player retention with predetermined wins and losses doesn't mix well with a game that encourages killstreaks. That, and modern COD developers refuse to allow players to silence their footsteps, which just encourages camping and discourages movement. I play every beta every year, and the game just isn't fun anymore.

I played a bit of Warzone to unlock the Kong/Godzilla stuff. But I haven't touched much of Vanguard since December.

Nobody can rival CoD except the OG ex-CoD devs a k.a. Respawn Entertainment. TF1&2 at their core play exactly like CoD but have their own twist and uniqueness added to it. Most other devs out there don't even know how to make good controls to begin with.

Common sense. Microsoft has stated repeatedly during acquisitions that they aren't going to take games away from anyone. Like warzone and mw2 which exist/have been announced for playstation. They don't want to muddy the waters too much with this and future acquisitions.

Future mainline titles haven't been announced, and exclusive call of duty is the best way to add Sony users to their marketplace, why the fuck would they give 30% of new game revenue to Sony lol. Unless Sony waives that it's not going to happen.

It'll also be on pc, and phones through xcloud

Even a clone wouldn’t work ....

The Call of Duty IP is a brand name now so anything labeled "Call of Duty" ends up selling even if its not a good game. Sony also don't have the best track record with successful FPS shooters, Killzone is the only one and that game never came close to Halo or Call of duty. This is why they brought Bungie, to help gain more expertise in live service/online based games.

No, poor OP. Misleading title. Sony does not say none of "their devs" can make a rival to COD.

They are basically saying it without saying it. A business would never say we can't do it. Instead they've said none of the biggest developers on the planet could make a comoetitor. That's basically saying including themselves without saying it.

Anyway, it doesn't really matter. They just want to try and stop it going through. I wonder if it will have any effect on it.

Common sense would tell you to listen what Microsoft's lawyers are saying to regulators. Which is the games aren't going exclusive.

You said....

This is pretty funny and anti competitive. Meanwhile, the deal wouldnt make ms as big as sony in the game market, especially after sony made more acquisitions.

How does pushing for a brand vital to gaming not being isolated to one platform come across as "anti-competitive" to you? It is a fair - and absolutely self-serving - statement.

That's not how "forecasting" works.

They aren't going exclusive whatsoever. Mw2 will be on playstation, so will warzone in continuity. They're also going to pc, and phones/tvs through xcloud, as will all mainline titles that aren't on playstation.

ESO is still on playstation, they've announced ES 6 won't be, just like fallout 76 will continue to be, and fallout 5 won't be (in 20 years lol)

This bit from Sony is crazy....

"They say that over the past five years, Game Pass has grown to capture approximately 60-70% of the global subscription services market (that marketshare is even greater in Brazil, where Game Pass represents approximately 70-80% of the PC subscription services market).

They believe that it would take several years for a competitor – even with substantial investments – to create a rival effective for Game Pass.

Call of Duty represents an important revenue stream for the PlayStation (they provided data but it's redacted), and it is one of SIE's biggest sources of revenue from third parties."

They seem shook.

Wait I was told that Playpass (PS++) would automatically have double the users on day 1. 🤷‍♂️

Microsoft said they'll continue to support existing communities and honour existing contracts re the Bethesda deal

Microsoft said the above, in addition to pledging that they'll continue to release games beyond those contracts re the Activision deal

Again, listen the lawyers.

Still holding out hope for ES6? OW2

They didn't buy Activision to give 30 percent of revenue to Sony. But they're not going to pull existing games that have been announced (we have examples already) or already exist because it'd be a PR shit storm, and increase scrutiny on future acquisitions.
