Sony Shutting Down All Official Playstation Forums

Twitter? Really Sony? Twitter where companies never help you with shit and it is a gigantic dumpster fire? Instagram? The fuck.

Depends on the company. Best Buy has been extremely responsive and helpful on Twitter.

They never interacted with the forums regardless, not to mention they were not very active for the most part. People complaining here, I can bet never even used them either or they would know.

Other mediums are used far more in the gaming communities.

Forums are useless in 2020 to get real news and have nice and coherent feedway anyway, its so full of idiots trying to get atention with their stupid fakes and so many shallow conversations which dont get you anywhere.

I much prefer twitter, at least there you can read news directly from the source straightforward without having to navigate in a sea of bullshit, as it happens in forums.
His point is that people are on here, Reddit, Ree, etc, and not on there.

the playstation store is even more shittier on pc then the ps4.
can't even log in most of the times
 
Maybe it have the same reputation of Sega forums? That one really served no purpose and I was member of that for ages.

Also, I can imagine that there will be a HUGE SHITSTORM when PS5 launches or will be revealed.
That's why they are trying to shut everyone down. Give them less platform to shit on PS5 makes sense.

well i guess sony wants to Bury all those negative constructive forums post since literally the ps2/psp days. Cant have constructive critisim anymore na lets funnel everyone through twitter no one is going answer anyone question for tech support or anything great plan LOL.

All the time especially during the ps3/psp days there were tons of useful tech advice all the way from how to fix the wifi from what to do when the disk drive fails and how to fix it

This post below, you make it sound like Forums are such a constructive place in comparison, especially dead ones, when every company in the world uses the mediums your complaining about for interaction or lack there of.

While I agree about the dumpster fire, this is not exclusive to Sony and every company does it. Sony, Xbox, Nintendo(?) interact far more on Twitter to people, sometimes sadly to select crazy people as well.

That is what you quoted me on and what I replied to you by showing you his post again. I was not talking about your take on the forums themselves and I didn't since I think twitter/instagram is a bigger cesspool regardless of how dead the Sony forum was.
 
People hate change I see.......Remember all the gamers that get shut down on forums everywhere, where mods shut down or delete their posts. Anybody remember the CDPR/Witcher forums when the game launched and how messy it was and how the devs/mods deleted posts were rude and never gave proper feedback....?

Also have not PS been receiving lots of feedback from the system itself......Perhaps Sony has a plan to finestream communication directly from your PS5.....You can attach videos, pics about your issues or simply do a write up to customer support directly from your PS5, or use all the social apps right there on PS5 with quick access to Sony's feedback loop...……, I think as a whole Sony has plans to do lots more to connect the community if it's community people are worried about...….I imagine streaming, private chat and a setup similar to discord can work well for feedback...….I'm pretty sure they have looked at the stats and have determined what's best......Sony never shuts down anything without cause.....If you guys realize, they are always sending out questionnaires and looking at the stats on who is using certain features, the frequency and volume etc.....It's how they determined years ago, that BC was not a high-use feature, despite people on forums being the loudest about it...…..Not that they wont offer BC, but communication has evolved and since they plan to overhaul PSN and connect all Sony services, they have to reshape many things communication wise for better synergy across devices, using one Sony account for pictures, music, games et al...…..
 
Guess it's not too surprising, but makes me thankful that forums like NeoGAF are still around when the world seems to be transitioning more to discord, Twitter and such.

Yeah. But still makes me wonder what they were thinking relying on twitter. That place its not viable to get feedback. Its typing limit just encourages trash feedbacks.

It's not "just twitter". They are using all social media platforms like all companies do. That they have been doing for years and years now. This isn't anything new other than shutting down a dead forum system for them.
 
Weird decision.
Maybe it's because all ps5 game will be censored, and they can't control the complains.

You didn't care about it before, yet because it can be seen as negativity towards Sony you magically show interest.

Dang, I used to post on there quite a bit 15+ years ago. It used to be a thriving forum back then. I checked a few months ago to see how it was doing nowadays and it was dead with a bunch of spam. Was sad to see. I'm not really surprised to see this announcement, but agree with others that twitter is a terrible place for it to carry over.

Yes, it has been ever since 2016. This, however, has nothing to do with their arrogance. The forum is dead and full of spam. There are other, better, and more efficient ways to converse about problems with the Sony Ecosystem.

No, I don't got a problem with shutting down a dead plataform. Just not so confident about picking the likes of media like Twitter for gathering info.

They have already been doing this for a decade now. It's not the only place they gather feedback. I'm sure they have smart people working for them to help filter through most of the noise. They still send out their surveys to fans and I still see requests on the Blog whenever I very sporadically go to it. Which is rare as well.

No fan of social media in general, but let me ask you this, where is the most solid place you think that feedback can be gathered? Any connected media platform with people all over the world is going to have its fair share of good with the bad.

Those forums have been dead for some time so i'm sure it became a simple problem of cost of moderation and storage vs actual customer activity.
 
Wouldn't it be better to have an official forum to handle complaints and issues? Grievances on massive social platforms such as insta and Twitter would probably look bad for the company.
